UPDATE: The first-dollar gross producer just left WME and was hotly pursued by both CAA and UTA. His choice to go to UTA will surprise Hollywood since it wasn’t that long ago that he was a partner there who left in a major dispute that erupted into a bitter lawsuit with lots of dirty laundry airing. But Gavin Polone and the agency decided to let bygones be bygones. (Don’t you love this town?) Actually, since his departure, UTA has worked closely with Gavin for years now on his many TV series and movies. UTA will represent Polone and his prolific Pariah shingle in film and television and will also help guide Polone’s transition into the director’s chair.
Meanwhile, it’s a shocker that Polone left WME since they were joined at the hip during the Conan O’Brien NBC/TNT negotiations. Some insiders are telling me that “something bad” went down that got Polone very angry. But WME is claiming: ”the relationship with him is still good. We still work realy closely with him,” and that Polone was in the office earlier this week even after he discharged the agency. Sure, because they have a lot of business together.
Then again, it’s amazing Polone (aka, the “Dark Prince” of Hollywood) has a thriving production company after he kept publicly dissing those WGA strikers. Yet here he is prepping to make his feature directorial debut on the crime thriller Psycho Killer to be produced by Eli Roth from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker. Polone is currently producing the David Koepp action thriller Premium Rush for Paramount which stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a NYC bicycle messenger pursued by a dirty cop.
Polone recently produced Sony’s horror-comedy hit Zombieland which helped establish Jesse Eisenberg as a breakout actor and Ruben Fleischer as an in-demand director — and also Sony’s $200 million grossing Panic Room, directed by David Fincher. Polone and Pariah have long been a force in television, with ABC Family expected to pick up to series Polone’s hour dramedy pilot What Would Jane Do from writer April Blair. Among his numerous television credits, Polone executive produces HBO’s long-running hit Curb Your Enthusiasm, now in its eighth season, and was executive producer of the hit series Gilmore Girls.

Wow, great sign for UTA, and shrewd move by Gavin. They will bust their ass for him.
Gavin is searingly smart, ferociously hardworking, and has taste and
an eye. Plus he’s dog lover. Hopefully with all this success his
bedside manner will have grown…bout time.
I have never seen such asskissing here on DHD.
Gavin-
What happened at WME? Why did you leave? They must have done something really bad to you. Please tell all!!!!!!!
Bad shit had to have gone down here. Gavin was like part of the Endeavor family.
How is this Gavin Polone going to direct actors after his notorious treatment of assistants? He does realize this could be an issue? Is this the same Mr. Polone or a different guy?
Deadline previously posted this:

If his directing is anything like his acting, expect lots of fun when the reviews come in.
is he going to get his famed watch back from UTA?
Gavin is a winner, whichever way you want to see it. I’m working with him right now and love how direct and effective he is.
Where was Gavin when Conan’s TNT contract was being negotiated? He blew it. Conan should’ve had something stipulating he was guaranteed 11:35, like all the other late night hosts. Stop the pandering commenters. Conan’s team cost him The Tonight Show and now he’s relegated to the obscurity of some fringe cable network.
They assumed that NBC wanted Conan to host the Tonight Show for 15 years or longer. It never occurred to them that Conan wouldn’t be able to compete with Letterman or that Jay would bomb so bad at 10 pm. Gavin’s big mistake was in not telling Conan to take the midnight slot Conan would’ve done great a half hour later he’d still have the Tonight Show and he’d have been able to force Jay into retirement in two or three years. Conan was terribly advised by all of his handlers they let him throw his temper tantrum and the result is a very lackluster show on TBS. Serves them all right.
This could be wrong, but my understanding is that Conan had provisions guaranteeing him the 11:35 p.m. slot in side agreements.
I don’t know whether the side agreements had the same legal force as the main agreement, but maybe the fact that NBC paid Conan all that money is a sign that the side agreements meant something.
I don’t know if this is true, but publications were reporting a year ago that Conan DID have a guarantee that he could stay in the 11:35 p.m. time slot, but the guarantee was in side agreements.
I don’t know if the side agreements would have had the same legal force as the main part of the agreement, and maybe NBC overlooked the side agreements when it tried to move him back half an hour.
The real story of Conan and TBS is that Polone’s bad judgment lost everything for O’Brien. He should be set on the ocean on an ice floe with an open fire beneath it.
