It is the end of January, and pilot offers to actors are going out fast and furious. Like every year, there are several actors that attract the lion’s share of offers. In the leading man category, two 40-something actors, Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler and Brotherhood alum Jason Isaacs, are red-hot, fielding a half-dozen offers each.

Among the ladies, Ugly Betty alumna Becki Newton is once again in demand despite the fact that her pilot gig could be in second position to her current series, NBC’s midseason dramedy Love Bites whose prospects are dim with a cut-back order and no premiere date set. (Love Bites co-star Greg Grunberg already booked the lead in the A&E pilot Big Mike in first position). Also sitting on multiple offers is Gilmore Girls alumna Krysten Ritter. Casting directors on several projects are also sending out feelers to Christina Applegate, who just gave birth to her first child. Other TV actors lured to return to series TV are Debra Messing, Jason Bateman, James Spader, Daniel Sunjata, Ali Larter, Lizzy Caplan and Katee Sackhoff.

As usual, pilot casting directors’ wish lists include a lot of movie actors. Most of them will say no, but there are always a few who make the jump to TV. We already have a big one this pilot season with Ethan Hawke, who signed on to topline the Fox drama pilot Exit Strategy. Maria Bello has gotten multiple offers, with Susan Sarandon, Kim Basinger, Ryan Philippe and Kerry Washington also being approached and Julianne Moore and Naomi Watts talked about.

They are all white. Shocker.
Last time I checked, Kerry Washington was black. But I get your point.
Daniel Sunjata isn’t white, either.
Bollywood is doing a lot of good stuff. Why don’t you move there? You would get to complain about a whole new majority getting most of the parts.
If I had any clout in Hollywood I’d cast Kyle Chandler in every show/film made from now on. He’s just that talented and likeable
Yep. Agreed.
Totally. That guy is a movie star.
Chandler’s a stud — but Isaacs is another story. There’s a reason this guy hasn’t worked regularly since Brotherhood. Total pain in the ass with producers and writing staffs.
Apparently no on ever gets the memo he’s God.
Love your screen name.
I worked personally with Jason on FOX’s Pleading Guilty last year and can say he is the furthest thing from a pain in the ass imaginable. He was always kind, hard working, collegial with the crew and would even show up on days he wasn’t shooting scenes to run lines with fellow cast mates. He’s a class act and anyone who actually knows him would say the same.
When their movie careers have started to fade (Straight to DVD movies, limited release movies, fewer mainstream movies, smaller roles, non A-list member, etc), they will move into television.
Yay for Christina Applegate, Debra Messing and Lizzy Caplan possibly returning to TV. I just hope they end up on good shows.
Very happy to see Kyle Chandler being considered for lots and lots of roles. He’s so versatile, appealing, and worthy of another quality project. Plus, he’s known to be such a nice, down to earth guy. Can’t wait to see him in Super 8 and any other future endeavor.
Really excited to hear about James Spader! I hope he finds something great.
I second that! It would be very exciting to see Jimmy Spader back in a new TV series! I’ve got my fingers crossed!
Heard Chandler was reading the Logjammers pilot last night. Peppers!!
I find it funny that none of the Lost alums are in demand. Fox, Grace, and Holloway are landing flicks and Kim has Hawaii 5-0, but where are the rest? Primarily the big-headed, b*tchy, b*tching
Jorge Garcia is the lead in Alcatraz.
JESSALYN GILSIG. Someone needs to get her off Glee and into a show that can use her. Glee is an OK show but they have nothing for her to do. She has been great in every series she has been in star or guest star. Boston Public, NYPD Blue, Nip/Tuck, etc.
Could not agree more!! I love Jessalyn Gilsig – have since Boston Public and NYPD Blue – and she’s a really sweet girl! Would love to see her in something a bit more…adult…than Glee.
And I’ll watch anything with Lizzy Caplan!
Is it too early to see Josh Holloway again? Surprised he’s not more in demand – for features or tv.
Isn’t Garcia in Mr. Sunshine?
He’s only guest-starring in the pilot.
Well, Sarandon’s pilot hasn’t been picked up by HBO so it’s not like she doesn’t wan to do TV, but she wants material. There is a good chance that after Dustin Hoffman many good actors will roll on to TV.
Look at HBO this year: Dustin Hoffman, Samuel L. Jackson, Tommy Lee Jones, Kate Winslet, Tim Robbins. Pacino is technically regular there.
I will watch anything with lizzt caplan, becki newton and Christina Applegate (Samanatha WHo was HILARIOUS!!!)
What flicks has Fox landed since lost went off the Air? I know holloway got next mission impossible movie. Have heard nothing on fox
Billy Smoke, based on the comic book series and coming out in 2014
Jason Isaacs is brilliant but please cast him as a Brit, whatever he does. His American accent sucks.
How about two great africican American actors s Epatha merkenson and Jesse l Martin ???
Lizzy Caplan owns the screen every time. I’d watch anything she’s in.
History shows that the biggest TV hits are from a cast of unknowns. Oh when will the studios learn.
Ali Larter, Ali Larter, ALI LARTER!
You just keep telling yourself that, that the U.S. is not a plurality. Juuust keep chanting it like a mantra and maybe one fine day you’ll be transported right to Scandanavia, where you can pretend that even there, with all its ethnic diversity, everybody is just like you.
Is it just me or does anyone else think Deadline should have a seperate place for TV pilot news? Yes, its important stuff, but come on..
Are you okay? Did you have to scroll through a couple stories to get to the one you wanted? I am so sorry for what you’ve been through.
I’m better now, thank you. Still sore though.
Amazed at the bullsh*t on the net. I worked with Isaacs on Brotherhood, guy was a phenomenal actor and a pleasure to be around. There were some real pains in the ass but he certainly wasn’t one of them. I only ever saw him wanting the scenes to be as good as they could be, which included helping me to look good. Also the only one whose accent passed for authentic Rhode Island with the crew by the way. As for not working since Brotherhood – check your imdb, he works in England all the time, some of it on a little thing called Potter.
totally with you on this. jason isaacs is a class act. used to work at his management company (not with him directly) and the man is very popular. people were always wanting to work with him for a second time. what was difficult about selling him was that he’s megasmart and fussy about what he takes because he likes to stay home with his family as much as possible. i hope whoever posted that smear earlier is unlucky enough to work with some of the real assholes out there.
Of COURSE Daniel Sunjata is on the menu!! He ‘s on his way to being a mega movie star so it makes sense that the small screen would want to gobble him up. His looks, acting chops, charisma, and ethnic crossover appeal are a coveted and unusual combination. Someone should wise up and cast him in a lead film role. Only a matter of time.
True indeed. Dude is a living 6 pack o’ skills. Disappears into every character I’ve ever seen him play. Creme de la creme!
Cosign like a mutha fu@ka!!
Krysten Ritter was incredible on Breaking Bad. Right up my alley. I will watch anything she’s in.
I would love to see James Spader back on the small screen! He is a wonderful actor, especially if his character can be naughty.
