After the delay caused by Peter Jackson’s perforated ulcer, production has begun on the two back-to-back 3D Lord of the Rings prequels in New Zealand. The cast had its first script read-through at Jackson’s Stone Studios on Thursday, sitting in a semi-circle inside the set of Bilbo Baggins’ house. Ian McKellen has blogged that having Jackson and co-screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens inviting comments on their script so far “is as close to bliss as an actor can get”. New Line and MGM are co-producing these two new Tolkien epics – rumoured to be titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – with Warner Bros financing. The two Hobbit films are due to be released late 2012 and 2013, respectively.

Good news from this project at last!
Good news? There’s no news here except that Peter Jackson is healthy again which is what matters. However, WTF does “New Line and MGM are co-producing,” while Warner Bros is financing actually mean? How does a Studio co-produce anything unless it’s financing?
Peter Jackson looks so much like a Hobbit himself it’s untrue. He should move into that set to live after filming.
His feet are too small
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this about says it all
Congrats nerds. I’ll be banging your gf while you guys are waiting in line.
Who are you kidding we don’t have girlfriends.
some nerds are actually straight girls including me so no girlfriend form me
How about our boyfriends? Will you be banging them too?
Huge deal. Will probably end up being the #1 movie of 2013. There’s too much competition in 2012 for it to take the top spot. ‘John Carter of Mars’ and ‘The Avengers’ are the beasts to beat that year. You also have The Phantom Menace in 3D as well. Which I hope falls hard like a lead balloon and carve a serious dent into George Lucas’s ego.
Wouldn’t bet on either of those to be the top film in 2012. More likely to be The Dark Knight Rises.
I am a real true female, no jokes. Fully female up in here, and I am SO excited by this. So while some of you admit to not having gfs, and some of you want to bang other peoples gfs, I will be bringing my lesbian gf to the theater to see this together so you can all just suck it!
Well-played, Cyn. Well-played… If not ironic.
I’m so jazzed about this project! These stories are so iconic in the fantasy genre. It was so rewarding to see Tolkien translated to film with the LoTR trilogy. Regardless of the details, Jackson certainly captured the mood of the stories. I am eager to revisit his vision with “The Hobbit.” I adore the actors they’ve cast; they’re spot-on. I will be following the news for this film closely!
I’m not familiar with Peter Jackson’s personality, but it seems to me a little odd that he is the one pictured on the set as opposed to one of the actors or something… I dunno, just something that struck me.
You’ve never seen a picture of a director posing on his own set before?
Can’t wait! This is going to be something really special, folks.
And then in the time after The Hobbit, there came, nine moons later, a proliferation of Geek Babies and Lesbian Babies onto the land. And, lo, the land was happier for it.
Say what you want, but PJ looks good and you can see in his eyes he’s ready to make something great.
“creoso n’alaquel utinu en’ ened kemen!”
Any clue when more of the actors in the movie will be announced?
Not all of the major characters are named yet…and there have been rumors since October surrounding a few actors and their roles that are still ‘empty’…
Peter Jackson stole Aidan Turner from the BBC’s Being Human , my favorite show on TV, for his Hobbit movie He’s dead, gone, (sorry, spoiler alert here in America) never to return, going on to bigger and better things. I will now have to wait for 3 years to see him again.
Damn you Peter Jackson!
Miss you Aidan.
Call me.
So funny. I’m thinking there’s no nerd, geek or gay requirement to enjoy Tolkien. Millions have been doing so for decades, openly and without label. As a straight woman who has enjoyed all of Tolkien’s works since childhood, along with Jackson’s movies, I am very excited and can’t wait until the movies come out. I am even happier to hear that Jackson is well. Hopefully, he won’t get so stressed out that he has a relapse. I wish him and all the cast and crew great health, luck and success!!
I am right with you here! I am also a straight women, admittedly a geek and have a geek boyfriend. Win/win for me! ^^ Can’t wait until this is done! Have loved Tolkein since I was a young girl. WAY before it was popular! ;D
Funny how no-one mentioned that Peter is smoking the weed (above) and stepping on his own vegetables. Unbelievable, plus the fact that he gets such credit for these films is silly, a monkey with no weed could direct these films.
