The remake of the British series centers on Jane Timoney (Bello), an iconoclastic female detective who has to make her bones in a tough New York precinct that is dominated by men. Quinn will play Jane’s boss, Lt. Kenny Rowe, the squad commander. Quinn, repped by Framework and Paradigm, co-stars opposite Liam Neeson in Unknown. “The remake of the iconic British series centers on Jane Timoney (Bello), an iconoclastic female detective who has to make her bones in a tough New York precinct that is dominated by men.”
While acknowledging that I have not read this pilot, the idea of a “precinct dominated by men” might have been relevant in the 1980′s, when “Cagney & Lacey” was doing this, or in 1991, the year of the first British miniseries.
But are they seriously expecting a contemporary audience to buy this idea in 2011, as a major theme in the series? After all the female detectives we’ve had on TV the last 20 years?
Let’s hope Jane doesn’t run into “SVU’s” Det. Olivia Benson or “CI’s” Det. Alexandra Eames every time she turns a corner…she might freak out
I have read the script and it’s brilliant.
“Under Suspicion” 1994 starring Karen Silas the only female detective in an all male series………1 season and out…Jackie Zambrano showrunner.
I agree Debbie, the script turned in by Alexandra Cunningham is much better than the one in dev last season. It’s not focused on “women” not being able to make it in a male dominated squad, it’s focused on this “particular” woman not being able to make it. It’s her story, specific, which goes to the universal idea of not being able to move up for whatever reason.
Good Stuff NBC, y’all might be on the rebound
and y’all might be working for NBC.
i really love maria bello but this show idea needs to bring something more to the table than the “universal idea of not moving up” to make it stand out from the tedious pack of cop shows currently on TV.
OMG that’s Aidan Quinn in that picture? I didn’t even recognize him. I hadn’t seen him in years. I used to have a crush on him when he was younger.
I’m so excited. I hope the American series owns up to its potential. I watched the original series staring Helen Miren and it was excellent. At least in the British version the overall premise of the show was not so much the problem with working in a predominantly male occupation, but dealing with her inner demons. This made the show stick with me. I’m also looking forward to watching Aidan Quinn on a weekly basis. It was tragic when they black listed the Book of Daniel.
Who is casting the principal, guest stars? I want to submit my headshot and resume.
