Andrew J. West (Greek) is set as the lead in NBC’s untitled Dan Goor pilot. The multicamera comedy, from writer-exec producer Dan Goor, centers on Adam Foote (West), a young doctor who joins his parents’ medical practice and spends as much time tending to his family as to his patients. Jean Smart was recently cast as his mom. West is with ICM and Group Management.
Marcia Gay Harden is set for a co-starring role in the ABC multi-camera comedy pilot Smothered, from Andrew Reich and Ted Cohen. The project centers on young couple Zack (Kyle Howard) and Gillian, who find themselves smothered by their two very different sets of parents. Harden will play Zack’s pretentious, often overbearing mother.
Sherri Saum (Gossip Girl) has landed a lead in ABC’s drama pilot Grace, from writer Krista Vernoff. A dysfunctional family drama set in the world of professional dance, it centers on Michael Grace (Eric Roberts), a famous choreographer who tends to sleep with his dancers and has three daughters with different mothers. He is in danger of losing his studio until his daughter Sarah (Abigail Spencer), a dancer-turned-lawyer, decides to buy her father’s studio and run it for him. Saum will play Grace’s second daughter, a beautiful, bright Bohemian artist. She’s Sarah’s half-sister and best friend.

At least this time ABC is making a great casting decision with Sherri Saum unlike the casting decision for Poe, Chris Egan. Egan is a horrible choice for Poe. I wonder why Paul Lee decided to go with the series Poe?
Well, that’s a step up from hawking Victoria Principal’s beauty creams for Sheri.
Happy to see all these great older actresses on TV (Harden, Huston, Potts, etc) but is it possible to find them something to do other than play the hovering/smothering mother?
Stackard Channing is playing a cop in 17th Precinct.
Meowwww
Meowwwwww
Egan on Poe will effectively doom that pilot. The guy is extremely limited as an actor and has dead-shark eyes incapable of conveying the most basic emotion…that choice does not bode well for ABC’s casting overall.
Marcia Gay Harden in Reich + Cohen pilot…ouch.
Eric Roberts as a dance school owner? Dude can barely walk…
From an outsiders perspective, this industry is crazy. It seems like everytime someone is announced as being cast in a role, people’s comments are nothing but bashing by a ten to one margain. There is so much bitterness, which I’m guessing is related to how difficult is it to make a break into this type of work. Regardless, I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky person, so I doubt I’d last a day out there.
saw marcia gay (what a stage name) on some interview show; she came across as amazingly self-impressed, even by hollywood standards
Yay! “Grace” sounds like fun!
I do not understand the concept for “Grace.” The descriptions I’ve read sound like they are intermingling a ballet company with a ballet studio, two entirely different entities.
I don’t see this show working at all.
