EXCLUSIVE: Ever since MIPTV organizers on Monday announced that Arnold Schwarzenegger will hold a press conference on the first day of this year’s market, April 4, to unveil his next project, “an international TV series,” speculation started about the nature of the mystery series and who the former California Governor will be doing it with. Details about the project are being heavily guarded, but I hear Schwarzenegger has teamed for what is believed to be an animated series with former DIC chairman and CEO Andy Heyward, who now heads children’s entertainment company A Squared. Heyward launched A2 in 2009, after selling his kids animation stalwart DIC to Cookie Jar Entertainment for $90 million.
A2′s mission statement is that it is dedicated to producing original “content with a purpose,” i.e., shows that enrich kids as they entertain them. A2 is producing three such animated Web series for AOL Kids built around accomplished professionals/celebrities: the Secret Millionaires Club, with Warren Buffett teaching children financial literacy, which was just picked up by The Hub as series of TV specials; Gisele & the Green Team, with supermodel Gisele Bündchen as an environmental superhero; and Martha & Friends, featuring a 10-year-old Martha Stewart running an event-planning business. Schwarzenneger could easily fit into that group with an aspirational animated show featuring his likeness.
However, there is another, even more intriguing possibility: a collaboration with Stan Lee Comics, A2′s partnership with Archie Comics and comic book icon Stan Lee. Its goal is getting new and original creations by Lee published as comic books and produced as animated and live-action properties, including series. Factor in this comment made by Schwarzenegger to fan site TheArnoldFans.com earlier this month: “I am packaging a Comic Book character right now. I’m going to announce that sometime at the end of March or the beginning of April.” Could The Terminator become a TV superhero? We’ll find out for sure April 4, when Schwarzenegger makes his official announcement.

He could become his own comic book hero … a comic book hero based on his own name. Arnold has a very, very good mind for marketing. And his wife is one smart cookie. Together they could build another empire.
That’s a great idea! Another empire! I mean, Arnold’s first and second empire have brought so much to so many.
Hasn’t anyone learned anything about being in business with Stan Lee. Stan’s forte was scripting and dialog, NOT creating. He may have come up with the germ of an idea for many a Marvel character but who REALLY made that character sing was Jack Kirby, IMHO the real “creator”. Many can say I want to see an Iron Man but who created the visual “punch” was Jack.
As far as Stan is concirned, can anyone name one character (or COMPANY, for that matter) that even remotely succeeded since he migrated to Hollywood?
Stan is a latter-day snake oil salesman.
Stripperella, anyone??
Stan and Jack were an dynamic DUO… neither really did anything too spectacular after they stopped working together at Marvel (Kirby’s 4th World stuff isn’t nearly as universal, that’s why aficionados are into, but hardly the mainstream) . Not to mention some of Marvel’s best stuff wasn’t penciled by The King — Steve Ditko (for Spider-Man, which arguably had a greater impact) plus Wally Wood, Gene Colan, and Jim Steranko did their fair share of co-creating the magic… I don’t think you can discount creating (or co-creating) The X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Avengers, Daredevil, Dr. Strange — and ALL the major villains for the heroes — to the level of just being a snappy scripter/dialogue man. That’s like saying Stan’s real skill was knowing how to type to Kirby’s art!
Sure he hasn’t done anything of great importance since the late 70s… but neither has all the big comic guns who burned brightly in their 30s (Frank Miller, John Byrne, Chris Claremont, etc.)…
Arnold’s own brand: “Musclehead & Friends” that appeals to children who want to learn and think that’s a good thing.
At least he’s out of politics.
Couldn’t agree with you more
Jeez, I surely, truly hope they shoot it in Louisiana. Nice, hot, steamy in the summer Louisiana….
How do i get those blue glasses? #winning
Same way AH probably got ‘em: shoplift.
They match his socks!
The Terminator should produce a movie about himself saving battered women from domestic violence situations.
An animated series? Am I alone in thinking this is a pretty small-potatoes announcement?
Somebody’s about to take one for the team.
Arnold, please let your hair go natural. Your face is already reassembled, but your chestnut coloring is absurd.
