CBS’ comedy pilot from Jeff and Jackie Filgo has won the Becki Newton sweepstakes. With several pilots vying for the former Ugly Betty co-star, Newton picked the CBS family comedy (formerly Homegrown) as her starring vehicle this pilot season. The pilot is formally in second position to Newton’s NBC series Love Bites, which is yet to be scheduled and has little chance of returning for a second season.
The untitled Filgos project centers on a blue-collar guy who wrestles with how to parent his unmarried grown daughter (Newton) and her 12-year-old son while sharing a house with them as well as his wife and his recently widowed mother. Newton is with Gersh.
In other pilot castings, singer-songwriter-actress Caitlin Crosby has joined NBC’s drama A Mann’s World, starring Don Johnson as a fiftysomething Beverly Hills hairdresser. Crosby, repped by Paradigm and John Carrabino, will play the genius hair colorist at the salon.

What happened to Love Bites? I’ve never understood what happened there….
Been wondering what happened to that show too and am posting more or less of what i posted at Ausiello’s. Can someone really tell us what went on with ‘Love Bites’? It started out as a hot property with a great cast and a high profile time slot meaning the bosses must have loved the pilot and seen potential in the series.
Then we have today and it doesn’t even look the show will see the light of day. Has anyone seen the pilot? I really want to know why this show never made it on-air. Nikki, find out.

Great news for Jeff and Jackie, two people who could not deserve it more! Smart decision on Becki’s part– the pilot is sweet and funny, fyi. So, Hey Jealousy to all the whiners who can’t even spell Becki’s name correctly– SHUT IT.
Trust, dude, no one’s jealous of Becki for booking this pilot…except perhaps the people who want the drugs she had to be on to take this pilot over the amazing crop of half hour scripts she was surely offered this year. Homegrown is shrill multicam at its worst. Filgos are better than this and so is Becki. That’s Becki with an i.
What “bites” is the lack of diverse casting on the tv pilots. They should change “A Mann’s World” to “A WHITE Mann’s World.” Clearly if you are an actor of color you are not welcome as a lead actor.
Seriously, what happened to Love Bites? NBC has some awfully rated shows, but they prefer to air A Minute to Win it, which barely cracks a 1.0, to air a show they already paid for.

HOMEGROWN is never going to go. It’s a weak weak weak weak weak weak pilot.
They actually shot all of the episodes to “Love Bites” last fall. They kept pushing it back then cut back the episode order saying all along it would be a mid-season replacement. Now many people of the cast have been attached to other pilots and it looks like they my roll it out in the summer just to get rid of it. Very strange. I guess when Hawaii 5-0 and The Defenders did well it had no place to go.
