EXCLUSIVE: Former Daily Show and Colbert Report executive producer Ben Karlin has signed a two-year deal with ABC Studios. Under the pact, which starts on April 1, The Colbert Report co-creator will develop projects for the studio through his company SuperEgo Industries, which will be based on the Disney lot. Karlin will executive produce his original projects (2 scripts per year) with his manager, 3 Arts’ David Miner. The pact stems from a cast-contingent script Karlin had at ABC Studios this development season, It’s Not Me, It’s You, which has Julie Anne Robinson attached to direct. The project came close to a pilot order at ABC.
Karlin most recently produced with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldber the upcoming Mandate/Summit cancer comedy feature 50/50 (aka I’m With Cancer) starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anna Kendrick and Rogen. UTA-repped Karlin, who won 9 Emmys for his work on The Daily Show and the The Colbert Report, recently had a deal at HBO.
