Ben Rappaport, star of NBC’s freshman comedy Outsourced, has been cast as the lead in CBS’ untitled Peter Knight comedy pilot. The project, from Sony and Happy Madison, is a workplace ensemble revolving around the young-adult employees at a high-powered venture capital firm. It centers on Danny (Rappaport), who is shocked when his crush, competitor and fellow trainee Gracie (Michelle Trachtenberg) is promoted out of the mailroom and into a junior associate position at the firm. For Rappaport, the casting is in second position to Outsourced which, after a promising start, has slipped in the ratings and is considered a long shot to return for a second season. He is with Gersh and Invictus.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Anthony Head has joined NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot Free Agents, reprising his role from the original British series the NBC project is based on. The romantic comedy explores the attraction between two quirky PR executives working together — Alex (Hank Azaria) and Helen (Kathryn Hahn) — who both are on the rebound, Alex from a divorce and Helen from the loss of a fiance. Head will play Stephen, the charming and amoral CEO of the Dayton Group. Also cast in Free Agents are Al Madrigal and Joe Lo Truglio. Head, who co-stars on the British series Merlin, as well as Madrigal were cast as guest stars in the pilot with series options.

GILES!!!!!
Head is amazing in the UK version of Free Agents and he’s a great interview. This is good news.
I don’t get it. ASH is playing Uther in BBC’s Merlin and they just started filming the fourth season. If the pilot gets picked up, when would they start filming the series?
Isn’t Tony Head playing the role of Uther on BBC/NBC’s Merlin? As Merlin films in France does this news mean that his character is going to die in upcoming episodes?
Damn that Rappaport is one hump-able guy and easily the best thing about Outsource (although I personally think it’s much better than what most give it credit for).
lol “hump-able” but i agree rawr!
Has anyone at CBS even bothered to watch “Outsourced”? Or have they just read the reviews? If they bothered to watch, they’d know that Rappaport is a fairly good-looking but bland and NOT FUNNY AT ALL actor. I guess that’s what the new part calls for.
Wow he’s easily the worst part of Outsourced. The guy just can’t act. Hope some of the other better actors on the show get better television shows to do because Outsourced (even though it has improved) is still a pretty poor comedy.
Darn, Outsourced is the freshest and most charming comedy on NBC right now and is vastly improved from its rough start. NBC should’ve moved it to 8:30 and put Paul Reiser at 10:30 instead.
Lack of comments. Lack of interest.
Calm down guys, just because you’ve seen an actor in one thing doesn’t mean you know his work or capabilities.
Good for Rappaport!!! Outsourced is a funny show and he has done a great job this season. He has a bright future.
I agree that it’s a good little show. Consistently funny.
I would totally bang Ben Rappaport like a screen door in a hurricane.
ben rappaport starring in the Peter Knight project makes perfect sense, as they are both milquetoast BS. also, how have they not decided on a title for the f-in show yet? i guess THE OFFICE was taken. they could always go with THE FIRM. oh wait.
Ben Rappaport may be “hump-able” (that’s innocuously subjective) but he is definitely not the best part about Outsourced. If anyone thinks he’s the best part of Outsourced that person must be Caucasian. I promise this isn’t a race thing but if you consider sheer talent alone, and in this case it would be comedic talent since this is a 1/2 hour comedy, Rappaport is completely blown out of the water by his talented cast mates. If it wasn’t for Rappaport’s supporting crew, Outsourced would’ve been cancelled a while ago. Rappaport consistently ruins the timing of the jokes and his reactions have this weird combination of being over-the-top and boring at the same time. The reason I made the comment about Caucasians is because no matter what, this country still likes to see white faces on screen – want evidence? Go back and read all the pilot castings on this website and count how many non-white actors have booked jobs – but I digress. On Outsourced, there was a story line where Rappaport’s character was falling in love with one of the Indian girls. There could’ve been great conflict because of the cultural differences (which this show actually focuses on) but they quickly changed direction and made his love interest a cute, blonde Australian girl. It’s just too bad. Sure, Rappaport is good looking and harmless enough but his comedic chops are totally and utterly nonexistent.
Sorry, I guess I broke my promise and my post was a race thing. I’m just looking for a little diversity. I have nothing against any actor due to his or her race but I am offended when somebody who can’t produce the chops keeps getting work. Maybe somebody up in the ranks should try him out in a dramatic role. But for comedy you either have it or you don’t. Rappaport does not.
This is seriously the WHITEST TV Pilot casting in recent memory – and that is saying something. When will the TV Networks cast people who look like the Real America?
Unfortunately, Pistol Pete, black leads got their one shot on a major network series with “Undercovers” and, since that flopped, they probably won’t get another anytime soon. As for Rappaport, though I have nothing against him, it should come as no shock that he would be the first — and likely only — actor to come out of “Outsourced” with any kind of a career. Doesn’t make it right, of course (anyone who watched “Undercovers” knows that show tanked for a host of reasons, none of which had anything to do with the leads) but that’s just the nature of the beast in Hollywood. (I get just as tired of all the lead characters in series being so boringly straight, too.)
Outsourced is a great comedy, with good characters, scripts and consistently enjoyable. I will be dumbfounded if it is cancelled. I know so many people that watch!
It should be on earlier. If people see it, they’ll like it.
KEEP OUTSOURCED!
