Maybe Charlie Sheen was unavailable? NBC just announced that another celebrity who has been going through personal problems, Christina Aguilera, has been tapped as a musician coach on NBC’s new musical competition series The Voice, which will premiere on April 26. Grammy winner Aguilera joins previously announced coaches Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine, with the last fourth coach expected to be named shortly. In their choices, NBC and producers Mark Burnett and John de Mol are clearly going for younger, contemporary artists to star on the show hosted by Carson Daly.
Aguilera had been in talks for the Voice gig for months and was one of the first artists approached. In fact, word is her name was at the top of NBC’s wish list for the panel. “Christina has a once in a generation talent — her voice is phenomenally distinctive and instantly recognizable,” NBC’s head of alternative Paul Telegdy said today. “Her journey as an artist, who started so young in the music business, will be an inspiration to the talent she coaches on the show.”
Aguilera could also serve as a cautionary tale about the trappings of fame and celebrity. The pop star has been a tabloid fixture over the past few weeks over the flubbed national anthem lyrics at the Super Bowl and her public intoxication arrest this week. Landing Aguilera is certain to draw a lot of attention to The Voice, which must cut through the clutter as it takes on Fox’s juggernaut American Idol in the crowded singing competition reality space that will soon also include Fox’s X Factor.
In The Voice, based on the Dutch format The Voice of Holland, each of the four coaches will pick 8 contestants who they will work with throughout the competition. For now, the Warner Horizon-produced show is slated to air a once-a-night affair but could expand to two nights later in its run.

Only in Hollywood can being drunk get you a job.
You can see a clip of the Voice on youtube and it is one of the stupidest singing competitions ever. The judges dont’ see the contestant and turn in their chairs to indicate they like the singing.
It’s stupid, and one thing more we don’t need: another singing competition. Besides the Biebs of the world are being found on youtube not on TV.
CONSIDERING HOW CAN’T SPELL, I THINK YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS STUPID.
SALLY, CONSIDERING THAT YOU CAN’T SPELL AT ALL, I WOULD SAY YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS STUPID!
Christina draw an audience? Sure her voice is incredible, but “Bionic” was a flop and “Burlesque” didn’t do too well. Story of her career, bad timing. She came out after Britney. Her 3rd album suffered because of Beyonce. And her last album was overshadowed by everyone’s love for GaGa. Now she is joining a show after American Idol proved it could survive Post Simon… Bad timing always…
Someone’s gotta coach the contestants on the fine art of oversinging…
Oh well, so much for my reality series “Drunkass Moms.”
NBC: “Gentlemen, we’ve found our Paula Abdul.”
or David Hasselhoff…. take your pick
Which is better The Voice or The X Factor? Which do you think will be more popular?
She would be a great judge for a yodeling competition.
I know Christina has a powerful voice and sold millions of records but that vocal range is just so small. She’s only at her best when screaming at the top of her lungs.
I suppose she needs this as her career and personal life have gone off the rails. For a woman who’s meant to be a flag of pride for succeeding after having a terrible father she’s certainly gone down the wrong path in the last twelve months.
The X Factor winning price: ”The winner of the competition is awarded a recording contract, stated to be worth $5 million, with Syco Music in association with Sony Music Entertainment.”
The Voice winning price: ”The winner of the Voice is set to receive a recording contract with Universal Republic.”
Does it really speak for itself? The Voice will attract an audience during its late spring/summer run but The X Factor will be a hit. But this will definitely be too much of the same.
When does it air? She may be in rehab, or worse……at this point, would you think she’s a credible mentor for anyone?
She will do great; all three judges are AMAZING choices. She’s had a rough year, and people can come up with whatever snarky comment they want about her; but that won’t change the fact that she’s one of the most accomplished living recording artists, one of the most talented vocalists of the moment, and a huge star worldwide.
I am Dutch, so I know the format first hand.
In the Netherlands the show was one of the biggest hits of the season. And we have Idol and X Factor too.
It’s from the man who brought you Big Brother, so beware.
FINALLY!!!! A judge that can actually sing and judge. Eat it J-LO!!!
Carson Daly? And The Voice sinks like a stone…
