In her first major TV gig, Christina Ricci has closed a deal to star in ABC’s drama pilot Pan Am. The project, from Sony Pictures TV, writer Jack Orman and director Thomas Schlamme, is a sexy soap set against the Jet-Age about pilots and flight attendants working at the iconic Pan Am airline in the 1960s. Ricci, repped by ICM and Management 360, will play the lead, Maggie, a fiery stewardess who is leading a double life – on duty she is a beautiful, perfectly groomed and poised stewardess, and off duty she is earthy, bohemian living among the beatniks and intellectuals of Greenwich Village. Exec producing are Orman, Schlamme and producer Nancy Hult Ganis, a former Pan Am flight attendant.
Jaime King is set to co-star opposite Rachel Bilson in CW’s drama pilot Hart of Dixie. The project, from writer Leila Gerstein, WBTV and Fake Empire, is a comedic drama centered on a young New York City doctor (Bilson) who inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town inhabited by an eclectic and eccentric group of characters. King, repped by Gersh and Raw Talent, will play a beautiful, overly effusive young woman, one of the elite “Blue Belles”, a group of southern debutante-types who keep the town history alive by performing in period dress.
Annie Potts has been tapped for a lead role in the ABC’s dramedy pilot Good Christian Bitches, from writer-exec producer Robert Harling and exec producer Darren Star. Based on Kim Gatlin’s book, it centers on Amanda, a recently divorced mother of two who moves back to the affluent Dallas neighborhood where she grew up to find herself in the whirling midst of gossip, Botox and fraud. Potts will play Amanda’s overbearing Dallas mother. Potts fielded 3 pilot offers this season before settling on Bitches. Additionally, she has been approached for a guest spot on CW’s Hart of Dixie. Potts, repped by Innovative and manager Craig Dorfman, is currently starring in Aftermath at the Odyssey. She most recently appeared on Broadway in God of Carnage and is rumored for the upcoming Ghostbusters movie.

I’ll be curious how the title “Good Christian Bitches” goes over. In today’s climate, I can’t imagine that some group won’t get riled up about it. Being a Christian, myself, I’m not offended, but it seems somewhat odd for Disney-ABC. Just curious……
Jaime did a bang up job in the flawed “My Generation,” and really showed that she could a handle network lead. Congrats to her and the suits at the CW for making a smart choice!
Jaime really showed that she could handle network TV with her turn on “My Generation.” Great news for a super sweet girl, and a wise choice by the CW brass!
Pan Am has a great concept. I hope it’s executed well! Ricci sounds right for that character description.
It IS a great concept, and it WAS executed well… in something called “Mad Men.”
I also agree with Anon’s reference to “Catch Me…” Trouble is, they were able to do that as well as they did for a feature. Keeping up that kind of quality and attention to detail week to week…?
Ricci is wonderful. The pilot is awful. Basically Grey’s Anatomy on a plane. One of the stewardesses, god help us, is a SPY.
In regards to the earlier post about the pilot being awful and one of the Stewerdress’ being a spy…Apparently you never new that some of those girls were running drugs cuz they never went thru security! Give the show a chance!!
I love Christina but she would never have been hired as a stewardess at any time for any airline due to the height requirement they have to be at least 5’6″ or even taller. She’s a cutie though so they should work that into the story have her be a forward-thinking women’s libber and somehow get hired even if she’s too short to be a stewardess on Pan Am.
This pilot is getting made thanks to the fun of seeing Leonardo in Catch Me If You Can which was a vibrant display of the early 1960s and the glamour and fun of flying Pan Am. It was a great era and I hope this goes to series just so I can watch it every week.
Well, that and the awards success of MadMen, clearly. My hope is that it’s not too hip a concept for flyover country, who would rather have another CSI spinoff. Remember Swingtown?
I think high concept TV shows would work better for broadcast TV if they were designed to be 13-week summer series from the outset. You guys are in the know here, what say you?
Your data on height requirement is incorrect! Your have to 5’2″ or taller but not taller than 6′
Question. Would the ADL hit Darren Star as an anti-Semite if the series was called “Good Yoddish Bitches”.
Jamie is awesome. Stoked for her! Much deserved.
Rachael Bilson and Jaime King..thats a real good look CW..pick up this pilot now!!..
Jaimie King in… Doc Hollywood… the TV series.
A friend gave me six episodes of the 12 Miles of Bad Road series that for some incredible, apparenty stupid reason never aired on HBO. I was told it was so the mental lililiputains now running HBO (into the ground, apparently) could punish their old boss. It is one of the best damn television shows I have ever seen, so why is somebody making a cheap ass version of 12 Miles with a dumb ass title Christian Bitches? Hey, I grew up in Dallas, would somebody from my hometown just buy 12 Miles from HBO so we can at least be portrayed in an intelligent fashion.
I agree. Is ABC crazy?! Are they trying to alienate their already dwindling audience? “Christian Bitches”…this is going to be fun to watch the network back-peddle so fast. 100 million and growing.
The pilot isn’t getting made because of CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. The pilot is getting made because of MAD MEN – you know that critically acclaimed one hour drama that’s also set in the 60s.
Short memory spans, people! Have you all forgotten what happened to Pan Am? I predict this series will go the same way. Buckle up! Head between your legs and reach for the puke bag!
Pan Am has a great concept, and if executed well could turn out great. Ricci is a great actress, and just has a buckload of charisma
I was intrigued by Pan Am if only because it was a glitzy nighttime soap not unlike the glory days of Dynasty and Dallas. Now with the addition of Christina Ricci, I’m VERY excited. Hope it gets picked up for a series. Wouldn’t mind seeing Christina every week.
everyone getting riled up about the name of the show needs to calm down – GOOD CHRISTIAN BITCHES is just a working title which will almost definitely be changed if it is picked up to series. Just like NO STRINGS ATTACHED was originally called FUCK BUDDIES . . .there is also a pilot for Fox called CHICKS & DICKS. No one actually expects them to be released under those titles. Let me guess, you also expect to see UNTITLED AARON SORKIN and UNTITLED WHITNEY CUMMINGS listed in you tv guides . . .
