Chuck Lorre took to his favorite outlet, the vanity cards running at the end of his CBS comedies, to reflect on the impact the ongoing war with Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen has had on him. The card aired at the end of tonight’s original episode of The Big Bang Theory and was spotted by my colleague, TVLine‘s Michael Ausiello. It was another Lorre vanity card, the now infamous “If Charlie Sheen outlives me, I’m gonna be really pissed” one at the end of the final (for now) episode of Two and Half Men, which triggered Sheen’s vicious attacks against him that ultimately led to the actor’s firing from the show and his $100 million lawsuit against Warner Bros and Lorre. Lorre first reflected (quite philosophically) on the situation in a Mike & Molly vanity card a month ago. Here is the new one from tonight:
Whenever I’ve gone through tough times, well-meaning people have told me that God/the universe does not give us more than we can handle. Well, I’ve been going through a tough time recently, and sure enough, that old saying has been tossed my way on several morose occasions. After some careful consideration, I’ve decided it’s bull$#*!. As an aphorism, it only makes sense in hindsight – after you’ve managed to crawl from the wreckage of whatever calamity that God/the universe decided to toss your way. No one can ever use it to comfort someone who’s been hit by a bus or turned into a puddle of goo by flesh-eating bacteria (although in the right circumstance, that could be a hoot). Another thing I hear a lot is, “this too shall pass.” Again, I know these are words meant to reassure, but somehow they always leave me feeling that heartbreak, rage and grief are going to come shooting out of me like kidney stones through an inflamed urethra. For someone in crisis, I think a more accurate and helpful assessment of reality would be, “Love, sex, food, friendship, art play, beauty and the simple pleasure of a coup of tea are all well and good, but never forget that God/the universe is determined to kill you by whatever means necessary.” Consider trying that next time you’re called on to do some consoling. If you’re feeling impish, you might also try, “According to the rules of comedy, your suffering will be funny after an undetermined length of time. Maybe not while you’re having your gangrenous leg sewed off, watching your home burn down or learning how to be intimate with your cellmate, but in the big scheme of things, soon.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

So let me get this straight – MILLIONAIRE/actor/abuser/whore enthusiast sues MILLIONAIRE producer and MILLIONAIRE studio execs and we non-millionnaires are supposed to feel sorry for whom, exactly? Really, tell me, cause I REALLY wanna know! Is it:
a) Sheen – the drugged out loudmouth; or,
b) Lorre – the control freak who is still raking in cash; or
c) Moonves et al – studio execs that have more money than God.
It was funny when it first hit, but now the story has become tiresome (thank you, Dieter!). I care about this about as much as I care about millionnaire NFL players suing BILLIONNAIRE team owners.
They can just all go get fucked.
Chaim is Chuck Carlos is Charlie
I find this CC CC muck rather gnarly.
What a massive p***y!
What do you mean stole the idea from a writer? Wasn’t it basically Joey and Ross from Friends with Ross’s son Ben?
This guy is the new king putz of television. He has surpassed Jeff Zucker to wear the putz crown. My prediction still stands, Warners will make a new deal with Charlie to return to the show and it’ll be announced in May at the upfronts.
Chuck Lorre will no longer be the showrunner he’ll be executive producer in name only he won’t have any day to day input into anything. He will be advised to shut up and swallow his pride and enjoy the money and focus on his other shows. Charlie will decide who the new showrunner is he’ll have veto power.
They are lost on how to continue the show without Charlie. Sure they could hire any actor but it’s a ratings risk. If they settle things with Charlie then they know the ratings will be even bigger than they were before at least for the first month back.
Hmm. He sort of reminds me of a sober Charlie Sheen.
Oh please i will cry…ridiculous.
Moreover this pseudo philosophical introspection is boring.
At least Sheen speech or rants (whatever you want to call it) are colorful, creative and quite poetic..and you are supposed to be the writer..you know the guy behind the scenes who are good with the words..
“love, sex… art play”
Which hand do you use for that, Cuck?
I guess all you people bashing Lorre didn’t read the recent study that proves mental pain is far more distressing to the mind than actual physical pain. Unless he’s a soulless monster, he has to feel partially responsible for Sheen’s predicament not to mention Sheen was a part of his work family for nine years. It doesn’t matter if the family being torn apart is biological or not, it still causes the parties involved mental pain. And, as I said, mental pain causes more trauma to the mind than physical pain. And I should know, I have serious chronic pain problems and I’m pretty happy most of the time.
And Chuck, if you are reading this, you probably get angry at people saying my favorite mantra, “This too shall pass,” because you haven’t let go of your anger. As with all emotions, if you hold onto them for too long they will corrupt your perception of reality. And to be extra rude, I’m enjoying laughing at you and Charlie now and I know enjoying schadenfreude makes me a bit twisted but who isn’t these days? Perhaps you need Dharma to come by and remind you of how to embrace your situation instead of trying to fight your situation.
I feel for his “mental pain.” He’s an asshole for making a Vanity Card about it. Especially when he’s bashed/insulted other people and shows in the same format. He’s simply a prick.
First world problems.
Pish.
He should use his millions to buy himself a tiny violin…. and maybe a hairbrush too! Big freakin baby
Money shmoney. He’s entitled to his unhappiness like the rest of us. Maybe even entitled to whine. But Chuck, if you’re a writer given the privilege of whining before the nation on your own prime-time vanity card, don’t you think it ought at least to be well written?
Woe is me without the funny. Sorry, Chuck, but you’re a self-centered loser and no one can relate to your rich man problems. Someone should have kicked this putz off his vanity soapbox years ago. It’s called showbusiness for a reason. Get with the program or better yet, stop talking and stick to your lowest common denominator- dumbing down of America brand of comedy. Sadly, that’s one rule you’ll never forget.
Fucking troll!
Rich or not, right or wrong, I dunno. What I do know is it sucks to be sued. First you are put into a position of having to defend yourself. (which in itself makes you look guilty) and second, it becomes all consuming. Unless you are Charlie or Chuck, you don’t have a clue as to what really is going on.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Itseems that Chuck is someone who thought he had dealt with his personal demons with addiction (his AA language is a tipof) fbut then turned around and made tons if money off a guy who is suffering from his own. Not just that, but the show itself was exploitive of Charlie’s problemsand might have made them worse in the long run. I think Chuck should have a hard time reconciling those two points. This story is just a much about his poor judgment as it is about Charlie’s behavior. I don’t think he realized how the joke ways really on him. Now he’s got real work to do.
It’s weird that so many people here (or Charlie’s socks) think this is a serious “pity me” screed, whereas to me it looks like a fairly wry, funny take on bad days. And while Chuck Lorre’s situation right now is enviable in several respects, I bet none of you (even those who claim to be on Charlie Sheen’s side) would enjoy dealing with the level of press scrutiny/Sheen insanity/legal negotiations/netwrok unhappiness that piled up for a while there. Starvation and agony are worse than a flat tire on the freeway in the baking heat of July, but that doesn’t make the flat tire on the freeway FUN.
Good for you if you found his whining funny and smart.
At least it makes one happy to read this boring shit, enjoy the “fun” Lorre pity party ! yeah
He must be talking about his relatives in Japan.
So much angst! More entertaining than his puerile show, Chuck & Charlie should do a two-man live show on Broadway where they can vent on each other. Maybe Charlie Rose can moderate and you’ve got” The Three Chucks”.
Does this guy ever stop stealing other people’s material?
“Tragedy + time = comedy.” I thought that was brilliant…when Woody Allen wrote it in CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS.
Go cry on a bag of money you don’t deserve.
What steal? He wrote, “According to the rules of comedy…” In fact that line is so old, I think it goes back to Aristophanes, which is Lorre’s point. It certainly was a well-known trope long before Crimes and Misdemeanors in 89.
No sympathy here, either. Money can’t buy happiness, but he has enough money that he can retire RIGHT NOW to devote his time to any personal problems & he will NEVER need money again.
Well, I have had a lot of fun watching two sociopaths go at each other through the media.
Charlie, Chuck keep it up, you guys are doing great!
Charlie has made Chuck alot of money. Chuck has made Charlie alot of money. The Network has made alot of money. They are all rich. It shows that money does not seem to do it for two out of the three. It is ego driven.
I completely agree. This sounds similar to things I’ve heard from people dealing with deep grief. ‘Sorry for your loss’, etc. seems pretty meaningless when your whole world is falling apart.
Euh Chuck Lorre ‘s world is falling apart ? LMAOOOOOOOO
Credule people always make me laugh so thanks for the laugh.
The problem is not his money. Its the descriptions we have heard of his personality. There is this overly strong need in this country to assume the problem is jealousy of other people’s money rather than the fact one finds someone like this to be a jerk. The people normally complaining about this guy also have money so its not as simple as jealousy.
