EXCLUSIVE: Cybill Shepherd has been tapped for a lead role in ABC’s comedy pilot My Freakin’ Family. The project, penned by Erica Rivinoja, centers on young parents Anna (Ellen Woglom) and Raj (Ravi Patel), whose lives change after they have a baby boy and the four grandparents with very different cultural backgrounds descend upon their lives. Shepherd will play Raj’s uptight and sophisticated mom, Nell. She dresses in the traditional Indian garb and wants to be involved in baby Clark’s life so he doesn’t turn out “white” like her son did, and she is prepared to go to war with Anna’s mom Maureen (Mo Gaffney) over Clark’s mixed cultural heritage. Shepherd, repped by Fortitude and Hofflund, had her first big success on ABC with Moonlighting. She recently did an arc on USA’s Psych.

What’s with all these Indian shows?
It’s creepy.
- An Indian, who says thank you for the piece of shit that is Outsourced.
Indians are the new token ethnicity on TV, without the annoying racial baggage of using African-Americans.
Jesus, these TV deals just keep coming and coming with big names attached. Is film dead?
But good for Cybill, I always liked her and she still looks fantastic as she did in The Last Picture Show.
Good lord, logjammers can’t catch a break.
So, you’re Logjammers pilot didn’t go to series. Get over it. This is the definition of a troll.
TV Line is reporting that Mischa Barton has actually signed onto the Log Jammers. She plays Billie the girl that live next door to Wilmer and Jorge, two slackers affectionately known as the local log jammers. These guys work as low level execs in the logging industry and sleep with different girls everyday of the week but secretly long for monogamy….NOT!
She joins already announced Mark Paul Gosslear (Wilmer) and Freddie Prinze, Jr. (Jorge). Sophia Bush is in negotiations for the owner’s daughter and logging exec, Pipa. Of course this is in second position to One Tree Hill.
So glad to hear this! Loved her in The Last Picture Show
Take that Chuck Lorre. Winning!
It’s only a pilot. and even if it goes to series, it’s on ABC. Remember “Better Off Ted”? Funny show, cancelled. They got lucky with “Modern Family” so calm down. Meanwhile Chaim Levine has two shows on the air right now despite the Charlie Sheen debacle, both are killing in the ratings, and he’s rolling in dough.
WHO’S WINNING
More Cybill and less Chuck Lorre = good for TV!
That is awesome casting!!!
My Freakin’ Family, Good Christian Bitches…what’s next?
I just bet the word A-Hole will be included in a new show here very soon…
The original title for this show was “Cowboys and Indians,” which I think is clever. ABC thought that was too offensive — yet at the same network they have a show called “Good Christian Bitches.” It’s not how you offend at ABC, it’s who.
And the award for worst pilot title goes to…
Cybil’s gonna play Ravi’s mom? What in the world? I know Ravi, this dude doesn’t look close to mixed race. I guess we’re gonna have to suspend disbelief with this one.
The guy who plays his dad looks so Indian that it is believable. And the character acts very “white”.
Agree. Cybill would have been great for the role of Claire Fisther in the untitled Brian peppers project.
There’s a lot of variation in mixed race. My family is mixed East Indian and Chinese. My brother looks dark-brown Indian. I look light-brown Indian. My sister is very fair-skinned and is usually taken for white or a white/Native American mix.
title sounds a lot like the fox pilot–I Hate My Teenage Daughter.
Don’t forget S#!t my dad says!
As I recall, there’s also a multi-ethnic character to play Woglom’s half-sister.
I wonder who it will be. Probably an unknown actor, so it won’t be announced with as much excitement…
I am very glad to here that Cybill will be on this show. She is such an amazing person. I hope we can also watch “My freakin´family” in Germany someday
Cybill Shepherd isn’t just making a return to television… she is starring as “Dolly Levi” in North Carolina Theatre’s HELLO, DOLLY! from May 6th through May 14th. It is her musical theatre debut.
