Two father-son duos have booked pilots this season. Donald Sutherland is set to co-star in NBC’s comedy My Life As an Experiment. His son Kiefer Sutherland toplines Fox’s drama pilot Touch. Meanwhile, Damon Wayans Jr. has been tapped as one of the three male leads in Fox’s untitled Liz Meriwether comedy pilot (aka Chicks & Dicks). His casting comes hours after his dad, Damon Wayans, closed a deal to star in CBS’ untitled sports radio show comedy pilot.
NBC’s My Life As an Experiment, from Sony, Reveille and Jack Black’s Electric Dynamite, centers on magazine immersion journalist A.J. Wilder (Jon Dore), who explores all sorts of unique experiences. Paget Brewster plays A.J.’s wife Stacie. Sutherland will play Stacie’s dad and A.J.’s father-in-law, a highly respected, very accomplished heart surgeon and a pompous, arrogant guy to boot who makes no secret of his disdain for his writer son-in-law. This is a departure for Sutherland, who is coming off three back-to-back drama series: Commander in Chief, Dirty Sexy Money and Pillars of the Earth.
Fox’s Liz Meriwether project, from 20th TV, is described as an ensemble comedy about the sexual politics of men and women. It centers on Jessica (Zooey Deschanel), an optimistic but unlucky-in-love elementary school teacher who, after her most recent break-up, moves out of her apartment with her ex and moves in with three juvenile guys: the beer-loving hunk Schmidt (Max Greenfield); the sweat pants-prone Coach (Wayans Jr.), an out-of-shape trainer; and bartender Nick (Jake M. Johnson). For Wayans Jr., the pilot is in second position to ABC’s comedy series Happy Endings, which premieres next month. The WME-repped actor recently appeared in the feature The Other Guys.

You wanna know why I like Donny Southerland? Outside of being an exceptional actor, he was a Montreal Expos fan showing up to games when no in Montreal was going to the games. He is a realist and it shows in his art.
There’s a Damon Wayans Jr. now?
Wayans Jr. has been around for a little bit. The first time I saw him was headlining Dance Flick – or whatever it was called. And when I say I “saw” it, I meant the previews. No way was I going to see that.
So I take it his (Wayans Jr.) reps feel that Happy Endings will be an unequivocal failure?
A quick glance at the pilot castings will inform you that a lot of actors are booking pilots in second position this season. Everyone on a series with even the slightest hint of uncertainty is hedging their bets.
Sutherland played a pompous heart surgeon on Eastmans. He was incredible as usual. Lucky NBC.
FOX & NBC new sitcoms are incredibly hard to launch, since they usually fail – but good luck to them!
Way too small a role for Sutherland. He’s being underutilized. He should have taken for the role of Sergio Sagg in LOGJAMMERS.
Go D-WAY JR. Mak’em laugh baby. Good work poppa D-Way, CBS use to be color frickin blind, now they have brought good things to life. YOU!
Donald Sutherland is a national treasure, he is one of the finest actors of all time.
