Dwayne Johnson will star in Snitch, an action thriller directed by Ric Roman Waugh for Exclusive Media Group. Script is by Justin Haythe, with a rewrite by the director. Johnson plays a working class guy who risks everything to save his son, who is falsely imprisoned. It’s the latest in a swing that Johnson has made back to hunky action roles. Gordon Gray and David Fanning are producing. He’ll next be seen in Fast Five, which Universal releases April 29, followed by the Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. CAA made his deal.

He’s awesome and deserves the best. He works hard and delivers. Wish h the best
sweet. ric roman is a good egg. felon is some real shit.
“save his son, who is falsely imprisoned.”
Interesting that he’s playing a role where he has a son old enough to be in prison.
He’s always come across as the new version of Arnold Schwarzenegger so I can’t picture him in a serious dramatic role but why not?
Um, didn’t Paul Haggis and Russell Crowe just make this movie?
Ric Waugh is an awful person to his core. Worked with him a few years ago and i saw first hand how huge his ego is. He has no problem screwing over anyone and will stab you in the back and then stab you in the chest.
you’re kidding… a director with a big ego?
i’ve never heard of such a thing.
mild, milquetoast, passive people usually make the best directors, right?
sounds like you were lousy at your job, and rrw– who doesn’t suffer fools lightly– either called you out, or fired you.
either way, you’re both bitter AND a pussy (hence your anonymous attack) so… have fun with that.
Nice to see. Faster was one of the best action movies I’ve seen in years.
Yes it was. Good to see him return to action movies again too.
“Faster was one of the best action movies I’ve seen in years.”
You obviously don’t get out much.
I guess you missed INCEPTION.
You haven’t been out much if you think Inception is an action movie. It has like 3 action scenes.
Go back to hide under your rock.
Inception? That’s what you cite as an example of quality? Inception was a complete pile of crap.
Love The Rock but wish he would pick better projects (same with Jason Statham too I guess)
How come these guys are never up for studio tentpole roles?
The real life character, Joey Settembrino, and his father, on which this story is based (whose father/son struggle was documented on FRONTLINE), centered on Joey’s first bust for dealing. He wasn’t innocent. The issue was he was a first-time offender and unlike other career criminal, who have associations to give up to prosecutors to cut a deal, Joe did not have any names/higher-ups to give up in order to cut a good deal so they just threw the book at him while the main thug he was working for got off with a minor sentence because he had names to give up. So, the prosecutors told the father, if you want your son’s sentence reduced YOU bring us information we can use to shorten his sentence. The Settembrino case is a perfect example of minimum sentencing requirements (judges hands tied – they had to give him 25 years) for first-time drug offenders that are out of control since the crack epidemic 80s – There have been some modifications but its still crazy. The idea that they made the Joey character “innocent” will, at first blush at least it would seem, rob the story of it complexity. What could have been a taut, thoughtful thriller/crime piece steeped in relevant themes ala TRAFFIC balanced with fine plotting and character work seen recently in Haggis’ THE NEXT THREE DAYS seems to have been developed in a very different direction here. The Rock? Really? I think he is great in a certain type of main stream material but this? Perhaps this is a big step for him acting/performance wise. I hope so as this is a really interesting, unique story to say the least.
Look- I love Dwayne but whoever said Faster is the Best Action Movie in years is a dope. If you haven’t see Faster here’s the movie in a few words The Rock walks up to bad people and shoots them in the face. Theeeeee End.
I would have been nice to see him actually fight someone.
Does this mean that Gordon Gray and Mark Ciardi are no longer producing partners? I see that Mark is not mentioned here. Is Mayhem a dead company?
