MTV Networks’ rookie awards show has announced it will give the actor-comedian the inaugural Comedy Icon Award, which goes “to a modern icon, an individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to comedy and whose impact and innovations have changed the landscape and inspired future generations of entertainers.” Billed as the first awards show celebrating comedy, The Comedy Awards will be taped March 26 in New York and premiere April 10 across Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1, Logo and Nick at Nite. Confirmed attendees include Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Louis C.K. and Kristin Wiig.

Karate Man bleed on da inside!
This IS a joke, right?
“Billed as the first awards show celebrating comedy”, Somebody call George Schlatter and tell him he wasn’t the first.
Is this different from the Johnny Carson Award that was announced two weeks ago? At the time, I was surprised that the Carson estate was fine with it. Now I’m curious whether they told MTVN to cease and desist, or if the showrunners are creating multiple nondescript awards that can be given to whichever have-beens RSVP. I do like Eddie, but his years of sucking now outnumber his years of being great.
outside of Annie Hall comedy never wins anything so they might as well create a few award shows to celebrate themselves, just what we need.
Goonie Goo Goo
another award show we don’t need. let’s watch celebrities congratulate themselves for a few hours.
The oscars this year really proved how much of a waste of time this nonsense is.
Bingo. Who wants to watch anti-American drivel with America-hating hosts anymore?
I will not be watching this…who cares?
Obviously, being the ICON Award winner doesn’t take into consideration Eddie’s plummeting career especially when it comes to comedy films and/or other projects within past 10 years or so.
Hopefully, this show will be much funnier than Eddie has been of late. If not, it will not be around for any length of time.
Comedy is so mediocre these days. 30 Rock is beginning to fade and everything else is also so blah. It’s the “Kimmeling” of comedy. The acceptance of anything that seems like it should be funny, but really isn’t.
Someone drop a bomb on this award show and let’s start from scratch.
Watch Community. Best thing on the majors by far.
Have the producers of this show not seen “Meet Dave”?
Also, who’s next on their list of ‘Comedy Icons’ – Rob Schneider?
Eddie hasn’t been able to make audiences laugh for a very long time but this award is hilarious. By all means give the man an award he deserves it.
Good for Eddie and especially for all the people who’ll earn a day’s pay from this endeavor.
Eddie Murphy getting a comedy award? While we’re at it let’s honor those other great comics. The brilliant Rob Schneider, Jay Leno, Carrot Top and Dane Cook. I actually apologize to Carrot Top. He made me laugh twice and I shouldn’t lump him in with these no talents.
Anybody remember Raw? Delirious…Eddies family dog bit? Or James Brown in the hot tub? Or Mr.Robinson’s neighborhood?
C’mon, white people!
Or maybe you would have preferred they give the award to Robert Klein.
Cil my landlord, cil my landlord, C-I-L my landlord,,kill the white man,,
Hey, Eddie Murphy still can be funny, it is just the projects he’s done were not well thought out. Daddy Day Care, Eddie was charming funny…like a black Cary Grant.. Nutty 1 he was extremely funny and sweet as Sherman Klump… Eddie needs great director writers like Judd Apatow to bring it out on the page first… Look at Steve Martin the last really funny thing he was in was Bofinger w Eddie.
thank God he deserves it. he is a groundbreaking comedic icon. thank God it’s not the same unfunny comedians that only serve one audience.
When we get to a place that awards are not worth our time or worth watching but reality shows about drugs and having sex with as many people possible is GREATER than a achievement then God helpus all.And dont watch what you dont want to watch dont cry about it.
