UPDATED: Elizabeth Hurley has been tapped for a potentially recurring role in David E. Kelley’s Wonder Woman reboot for NBC starring Adrianne Palicki as the comic book heroine who, in the new version, is a successful corporate executive working to balance all of the elements in her complicated life. Pending visa clearance, British actress Hurley will guest star in the pilot as villain Veronica Cale, the beautiful, highly educated head of one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country who is afflicted with serious deep-seated Wonder Woman envy. Cold Case alumna Tracie Thoms will play the regular role of Etta, Diana Themyscira (Palicki)’s always cheerful personal assistant.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

This is great news. She’s very talented. But where is the news about Tracie Thoms? Didn’t she join the cast this week too?
Let’s hope. She’s fantastic.
Visa clearance? WTF? What’d she do?
She’s British. The series will be shot in the U.S. Thus she needs a visa to stay in the U.S. long term (as opposed to the short term required to shoot a movie).
Did David Kelly write this pilot or Charlie Sheen?
I think you mean “Charlisheen!”
I can see the draw of choosing Hurley for her age/beauty and british accents can be evoke power a la’ Alexis Carrington.
However…that’s exactly what concerns me. Are they going for some campy powerb$tch? Hurley so often does tongue in cheek humor and she’s not exactly who I envisioned as Cale.
I like that fact that she’s a NAME name but the tone of this show is still unknown so I’m not entirely sure what to think of this.
It’s not a bad choice like it would be to add someone like Rena Sofer so it’s not a horrible choice for me.
Rena Sofer is the black angel of death for pilot season.
So, yes. Hire her.
Great casting, but what’s with all these original characters? It’s not like DC Comics is short of them.
Actually, out of the 7 main characters that we’ve heard about, only one is original.
Diana, Etta, Veronica, Steve, Ed and Myndi are all from the comics, while Henry is original.
veronica cale is from the comics, though she is a new creation, about ten years old.
Veronica Cale is a DC character, has been for about 7 or 8 years.
Well at least I can stop having any hope for this project (yes even after the script review) and move on. Thanks for not leaving me hanging!
No but seriously they wouldn’t be dumb enough to make her a villian would they? Would they? Of course they would. I mean God forbid a female super hero actually face a real threat, she might break a nail! Or maybe she’s the mentor character, because oh yeah that’s much better.
Another female superhero about to go down in flames.
Help us Christopher Nolan, you’re are only hope.
So WW is a high-powered corporate executive by day, superhero by night… battling the CEO of a pharmaceutical company.
Is this being produced by Warner Bros. or The Wall Street Journal?
Hopefully NBC will invest some money into this series to avoid another production design horror story (cough cough Harry’s Law). It’s not just about the witty writing David.
I can see why folks are complaining on the direction kelly has decided on. I don’t know much on ww. But from what I seen on wiki about ww. She has had many identities, from military nurse/secretary, to ambasdor, regular super hero, and corparate worker.
Loving the leopard print in the photo. Cheetah!
Pistol Pete, note the casting of the excellent Tracie Thoms in a series regular role. US TV’s still dismally white, but this particular post isn’t exactly all-white all-the-time.
(The fact that she’s WW’s assistant, aka sidekick, there’s some meat for you, if you like.)
It is a little odd that Thoms, who is older than Palicki (or at least plays older) will be her personal assistant. But hey, it’s a job!
I’m a little disappointed that she’s playing Diana’s assistant. In the comics, or at least the last 20 odd years, she’s been Diana’s best friend and Steve Trevor’s girlfriend/wife.She’s also a part of the military.
They’re giving the best friend role to Myndi Mayer, who if I’m not mistaken, only lasted 9 issues in the 80s.
Myndi Mayer actually died from a drug overdose that had caused an hemorrhage prior to her getting murdered during George Perez’s run
in the issue “Who Killed Myndi Mayer” (Wonder Woman #20 Sept 1988)
Love Hurley for this role. Perfect.
SO! SO! SO! SO! Glad they cast a woman, not only a woman but a woman of color. This will in turn add color to the series, amassing a vivid palette of colors diverse like an after storm rainbow. So excited for this.
Charlie? Charlie Sheen? That you?
Yes!! And she’s the assistant! How very 1962 of them.
Just me or is this starting to sound like Catwoman????
Let’s all hope this WW pilot ends up on YouTube next to the Batgirl presentation film and John Woo’s unaired Lost in Space pilot. This sh** is sounding worse everyday. Always good to see a black woman get work but sorry, sista.
I don’t know the comics too well, but looking at a few drawings of Veronica Cale, someone like Bridget Fonda (with a “Point of No Return” bob) or Brenda Strong would make more sense as casting possibilities. That’s just me, though.
