They’ve done it again – almost 10 years after they co-created The Nanny, Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson are close to landing another comedy series starring the nasal-voiced actress. I hear TV Land is finalizing a series pickup for Drescher and Jacobsen’s pilot, Happily Divorced. The order is expected to be for 10 episodes, including the pilot. Based on Drescher’s real life, Happily Divorced stars The Nanny alumna as a woman who re-enters the dating world after finding out
her husband is gay and juggles her relationship with her current boyfriend and ex-husband. Drescher and Jacobsen are the writers/executive producers.
It is unclear how the pending series order for Happily Divorced would affect the chances of TV Land’s other two pilots: the untitled Mark Reisman project, about three divorced guys (David Alan Basche, Donald Faison, Wayne Knight) who live in an apartment building where their landlord is their sexy female divorce attorney (Kristen Johnston), and the untitled Terri Minsky project, an office comedy set at a regional beverage manufacturer and distributor in Oregon that stars Christine Taylor. TV Land recently renewed its first original comedy series, Hot In Cleveland, for a third season.

You mean, almost 20 years after co-creating The Nanny?
I’m sorry that Fran’s Tawk Show didn’t make it but I hope this gets picked up. I won’t be watching it but I love her so I wish her well.
Yea!!!!! Fran is back!! Can’t wait!! She is truly as great as Lucille Ball. Lucy was such a talent and the first time I viewed the “Nanny”, I knew she was another great talent. She has had great kudos but not near enough in regards to her comedian talents. Fran, you have been off the air way toooooo long. Welcome back!!
AMEN TO THAT!!! Can’t wait to see the new show!! bummed about your tawk show
still go through Nanny withdrawls, hate it when they switch the nanny between nick at nite and TVLand channels. Kudos to your new show! We luv ya!
My thoughts exactly…right on to you Fran. Praying God’s best for you always.
The Nanny cannot be recreated…it has blessed many many people. This is a brand new creation that will bless many many people this year onward.
Um…
THE NANNY ran from 1993-1999, so it’s almost TWENTY years old.
it ended in 1999 which means it finished 11 years ago thats what she was stating
actually that would make it 12… and 12 rounds to 10 not 20… just saying dont mean that to be rude, but I saw a few comments on it and its kind of aggravating to see miscalculated math…
I was at the Pilot…It was Simple…Honest…and Adorable! Loved all the characters and the actors playing the parts! A winner for sure!
I also attended the taping of the pilot episode and have been looking forward to seeing the show air! This show was fun, and had so many great moments….my favorite was when Fran suggested that Peter live at the YMCA! Funny stuff as only Fran can deliver~
How do you get tickets?
I miss The Nanny. It was always fun to watch, a light comedy, emotional at times… it was good TV. However, let’s hope this next one turns out to be better than “Living with Fran”.
You say you miss The Nanny. Just making sure you know it’s on
Nick at Nite and on TV Land right now. Thank goodness for that!
Because that show is one of the funniest comedies ever!!!
The Nanny also airs on the Antenna TV digital broadcast network, the last time I checked.
Yes, at first I was referring to The Nanny. But the last part is about her other show after Nanny was cancelled, called “Living with Fran”. It wasn’t as good as The Nanny.
So excited to see our Fran is back. Loved her Tawk Show and was blessed to have attended a tapping. If someone knows how to request tickets for a taping for the new sitcom, please post. And, you can catch all 6 seasons of The Nanny on youtube crywishes, also.
Is Fran still playing the role of Kate Squirtz in the untitled Brian Peppers Project?
I thought she was doing a talk show. Is that dead?
Who is playing the gay ex husband and the new boyfriend? The posting doesnt say…do you know? T his sounds like it could be a success…Its a topic that has resonance and hopefully will be handled right so that the gay role will be portrayed in a positive manner, while maintaining a funny sitcom. While Im not a Fran fan, and not surprised her talk show failed, and wouldnt want to buy her HSN products, I think this type of sitcom could work – esp on cable where it needs a lower audience. Gays are hot…and many pple can identify with this story – just watch oprah
Gay ex-husband is being played by John Michael Higgins. And the new boyfriend is being played by D.W. Moffet.
In the show, Fran’s parents are played by Rita Moreno and Robert Walden….they were both great in the roles, and it was funny to see Moreno shed the Puerto Rican stereotypes in favor of Jewish Schtick!
Strange casting: While happy that Robert Walden (whose “little Don Segretti” still gives me goosebumps) is returning to series TV, and also a great fan of the incomparable & ever youthful Ms. Moreno’s, does this play? There is a generation’s age difference between Walden and Moreno, nor is Walden close to an age to play Drescher’s father…
This is beyond exciting. Especially since I’ve already been through seasons 1-6 of the Nanny more times than is academically healthy (my vocabulary has gotten predominantly yiddish). Also, midterm season is coming up again and I need Fabulous to distract me from the imminent failure/eating binges.
In summation, my lowly undergrad compadres and I approve this article. For all the insta-ramens and jars of peanut butter that’s worth.
One of my all-time favourites. Go fran.
i love fran! cant wait for her new show. i have watched so many reruns of the nanny.
There is no voice on TV that is as irritating and nauseating as Drescher’s.
It’s no wonder that her husband ditched her.
Her husband did not ditch her…they were married for 21 years, divorced and then he came out to her. They are still the best of friends, and according to her, set each other up with men.
And before you respond with the ever witty “her voice turned him gay”, it’s been done over and over…you wouldn’t be original.
I’m thrilled that Fran may be coming back to tv. She is hilarious and underrated, and never has a classier, more down to earth person graced my tv screen.
The Drescher show seems like a much better companion piece for Hot in Cleveland. The current companion show (Retired at 35) is just awful. (You’re forgiven, Jessica Walter.)
glad to see fran back on tv. in a different role to show off any hidden talent to act even though some may avoid the show due to her voice.
I love Fran, and I’m happy for her. She is such a talented beautiful person (inside and out), that I only wish her well. She has been through so much with her divorce and her battle with cancer. She turned her personal journey into a foundation (“Cancer Shmancer”), to help others. Plus her involvement in politics to fight for women’s health issues just adds to her many wonderful accomplishments. I hope “Happily Divorced” will be as successful as “The Nanny”. Fran is a unique talent, and I look forward to seeing her on TV for many years to come!
I am so happy for Fran she really deserves this. I just love the Nanny. I watch it all the time. I wish they would do another reunion show. Thank you Fran for all you do for Cancer… I am a survivor of a female cancer and I am proud of Fran for her work.
Good to see Fran’s PR outfit filling the talkback, since anyone who ever worked on her shows has a somewhat different opinion of her.
Don’t expect to see any folks from her old show doing guest shots; her antics on The Nanny poisoned those wells with stunts like having every laugh at a table read being re-written for her and other Diva-style behaviours.
Between this story and Cybill also getting into a pilot, looks like next season’s theme will be screaming divas.
(And yes, I know there are just as many (if not more) men who are equally egotisical, overbearing, obnoxious and generally unpleasant to work with.)
I love The Nanny. It was extremely funny. I still watch it EVERYDAY. Fran is a natural. She’s the greatest in my book. I look forward to her new show and will definately watch it.
The Nanny was brilliant. It was completely under appreciated. … I get that FD and MJ like working with the same people. But I hope they do a better job thinking this through then they did with “Living With Fran” and the painful to watch talk show. It’s about the audience not employing family and friends. … I don’t get how Rita Moreno is playing Fran’s mother when Fran is very Jewish and Rita is very Latina … I love them both … and I’m a gay man … I just don’t see the believability.
i just adore fran ,cant wait to see her new show,i would love to see fran on dancing with the stars one day,
i love fran i watch the nanny everynite over and over i bet i seen them all about 1000000 i hope her new show makes it good luck nanny
I am VERY excited about the prospect of a new Fran show. I love her! I would also love love love to see a Nanny reunion show/movie…Maybe for Gracie’s wedding? It would be fab-u-lous!
I love Fran Drescher. She is my favorite actress. She is beautiful inside and out. I am so glad to see her back on t.v. I watch the Nanny everynight. I wish she also had the Tawk Show.
Fran, come back!!! We miss you; tv’s a bore without you!
I totally love Fran period!! I’m a huge Nanny fan, so is my whole family. I can’t wait for the new show!!! I’m a Fran fan and love her no matter what she plays in.
