FX has closed a deal for a drama series project executive produced and directed by Oliver Stone. It hails from Virgin Produced, the production arm of Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, marking the first major scripted TV sale for the fledgling company.
Adam Gibgot will write the project, which centers on a secret group known as Darkhorses who manufacture fake news stories on grand scale to service powerful clients’ agendas. The project, whose research included interviewing a real Darkhorse, was developed internally at Virgin with Gibgot. Stone, well known for tackling conspiracy theories in his movies, Gibgot and Virgin pitched the drama to several cable networks before setting it up at FX in what the producers said was a competitive situation with Showtime. Fox TV Studios will produce. Stone is slated to direct the potential pilot and executive produce the series, which was packaged by CAA. Last year, he signed a development deal with Epix to turn Bruce Wagner’s novel Still Holding into a drama series.
Virgin Produced, which recently released its first movie Limitless on the feature side, has been ramping up its TV production operations. Its scripted TV development is overseen by head of scripted television Michael Forman. On the unscripted side, the company recently inked a a first-look deal with E!

I wonder if Ailes will make a cameo?
Please be smarter than RUBICON…
Please.
This sounds interesting…
Not really. It sounds like an okay feature idea, that will never have the kind of legs a TV series needs to have. Something that FX doesn’t seem to know how to do that well, clearly.
in the 80′s or 90′s i would be thrilled.
I read a conspiracy thriller script by the writer when I was at Fox. It was researched like nothing I’ve ever read. This could be interesting.
Somebody better warn Oliver not to make it too good, or it will get cancelled after 1 season.
Sounds like a Bret Carr special.
it’d be even cooler if it was an actual virgin.
Stone is at his best with this kind of material. And Gibgot is a freak for authenticity.
Who is the virgin?
Thought Gibgot was a comedy writer?
Gibgot writes some of the best conspiracy themed material of anyone out there. Though I haven’t read him in a while.
This sounds like a DVRer to me. Unfortunately, we’ll probably never get to see it and instead be treated to another “Lights Out.”
Apparently they are really fired up about this at the News Corp. level, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes an anchor for the network.
Sounds like WAG THE DOG as a series, which isn’t a bad thing.
Wow. Stone and Gibgot. Fire and fuel.
This sounds very intriguing! Make it happen!
This sounds like the ideal pairing re Stone/Gibgot
and this idea.
Fake news stories to service powerful clients agendas? That’s exactly what FOX News does every single day and night they are notorious for broadcasting fake news to make their idiot conservatives look good. They literally manufacture fake news video all the time so this is a good fit for FOX.
I offer a very simple challenge. Name one single valid example.
How about a president tossing missiles at an aspirin factory to side track an impeachment! Or the orchestration of a country’s downfall to facilitate the destruction of Israel! Maybe the bombing of an oil rig to destroy the oil industry in the U.S.! Nah… Couldn’t pin those on conservatives like Stone is always want to do.
Take your meds, now…
Who reps Gibgot?
If you really are an “agent assistant” then you should have more than one way of looking that up in a matter of minutes, rather than asking that question here on a message board.
Baseline isn’t current. Nor is any other conventional info. I’m young but not new
Oliver Stone is a leftist whack job. Who wants to see this tripe?
Pretty much everybody but you.
I ‘m not going to watch this crap. Stone had a cool visual style in the 90′s, but his stories suck. Or is it just the dictators his stories apologize and propagandize for that suck? Same difference.
FX has dabbled in this space before in both series and movies. The Jim Uhls script is still one of the best non-produced projects in town. However, the challenge at Fox / FX is Newscorp. Once you start in on the kind of controversial turf Oliver Stone seems to be known for, you start to get in trouble with the mothership. Too soon to tell. Anything should be better than Rubicon.
I loved Limitless!!
Already on the air, it’s called “MSNBC”.
Lol
I love how you Faux News viewers have become so propagandized for so long that actual reporting of FACTS appear to be “lies” to you at this point – especially when they disrupt the false narratives that Faux injects into your cerebral cortex every day.
Be a good little Faux News viewer, put your brain back to sleep now…
You know what I miss – the old days when leftists were smart.
If you think YOU know what you’re talking about, then you really shouldn’t comment on what others think.
Stone is the perfect guy for this, his “JFK” was a great fake history movie, so he should be expert at creating fake news stories.
The key for a show like this would be if the producers could actually surprise the audience and balance out the otherwise obvious agendas with an unexpected perspective.
Who wants to bet these ‘powerful clients’ will all be ‘eeevvvviiiiil’ corporations (Big Oil, Big Tobacco, Big
UnionsCEO’S) or Conservatives or Fox News?
