Fox News Channel SVP development Joel Cheatwood is expected to leave the cable news network next month to join Glenn Beck’s production company Mercury Radio Arts. But, contrary to a report that Cheatwood was “poached” from Fox News, sources say that Fox had no intention of renewing his $700,000-a year-contract when it is set to expire April 23. Cheatwood had reportedly been marginalized for more than a year, serving solely as Beck’s liaison at the network. “Joel lost Roger (Ailes)’s respect and trust a long time ago,” a Fox News insider told Deadline.
It is unclear whether the move is any indication of Fox News’ intentions for Beck, whose contract is up in December. There has been speculation that the channel is considering a future without the controversial host, who has been slipping in the ratings while continuing to attract backlash both from the left and the right. Before Fox News, Cheatwood and Beck worked together at CNN.

Beck is THE person to be watching these days. Fox would not be dumb enough to drop him. His ratings are very high. And he’s so right about so many things.
Fox + Beck are the only ones getting the truth out.

And considering the cast of low-rent buffoons that populate Fox’s business and nightly talk roundup, that’s saying a lot.
Beck’s audience consists of those with an affinity for personality-disorder fueled rantings, and those who pay attention to the rantings of Beck/Sheen for its train wreck appeal.
More importantly, why would ANYONE need to keep apprised of the executive musical chairs around Glenn Beck and his Sheen-like madness?
Outside of their immediate family, and Fox’s own inter-office politics, what intelligent person gives a devil’s damn who Fox hires or what in God’s name Fox is doing?
This is so silly, Beck isn’t leaving Fox News. EVERY political commentator gets criticism from his own side, if he didn’t he wouldn’t be worth listening too. The people making these claims, that Beck is in danger of getting canned from Fox News, have never paid attention to political commentators before. Beck is still easily #1 in his time slot. Why on Earth would he be in danger of getting fired? This is just more wishful thinking from liberals.
FOX News is number one all the time. That doesn’t mean they don’t periodically replace people if the amount of money they’re being paid doesn’t match up with the ratings they deliver.
Looking at this as an objective business story, along with other business stories about Beck and FNC, it is looking likely they will part ways.
It would be a good move for FNC, his ratings are on the decline, and they haven’t been able to sell the show for the better part of a year.
It would be bad for Beck, as his profile declines and there really isn’t anywhere else for him to go.

This poses an interesting question. Fox News has always been a cesspool-like repository for the dregs of humanity who have little or no journalistic credibility, a veritable last stop on the train to Nowheresville. So if you’re already at Fox and you leave, where do you go?
Perhaps another cable news network, perhaps one with lesser ratings. That is to say… all of them.
And perhaps the reason Fox’s ratings are higher than other cable news networks is because more progressive-minded people have better things to do with their time than sit in front of the boob tube for 5 hours every night soaking up rightwing lies and propaganda. Right – but whenever some liberal writes a book they cant wait to get on the Fox circuit. There are a lot of confirmed libs like Rivera and Kirsten Powers and Alan Colmes who do regular gigs on Fox. Where are their equivalents on MSnbc? Dont exist. As for switching teams – done all the time. Rivera moved to Fox, Bashir just moved from ABC to CNN, Beck moved from Headline news to Fox.

I had the privilege of introducing Glen Beck at an event in Washington state. Though our meeting was short, he struck me as genuine and motivated by sincerely held beliefs. A friend of mine who has a much more extended relationship with Beck assures me that my perception is correct. His style might not be
yours, you may disagree with his views, but it’s not as though he doesn’t offer evidence to back them up. You may not like his interpretation, or you might think that other evidence trumps his, but, all acts to the side, he is no idiot. His expanding media empire is a testament to that. As for this VP, he nurtured a show from CNN with mediocre ratings to a dominant phenomenon on Fox. When a tv series you don’t like does well, do you dismiss the team behind it as a pack of fools too, or is this treatment reserved for those with conservative views you don’t understand or haven’t bothered to listen to?
Ps. FYI: studies have shown that people on the left wing of the political spectrum watch more tv on average than those on the right.
