EXCLUSIVE: HBO has given the green light to Spring/Fall, a half-hour comedy pilot staring Tea Leoni. The project is set in New York City against the backdrop of the fashion world and stars Leoni as half of a dysfunctional partnership between two women with different approaches to career, family and friendship. Kate Robin, who was a writer-producer on HBO’s Six Feet Under, wrote the script. She and Leoni are executive producing with documentary filmmaker R.J. Cutler, who explored the NY fashion scene with last year’s documentary The September Issue. Leoni’s manager, Jimmy Miller, also executive produces the project, which had been in the works at HBO for a while. The pilot is slated to shoot in June.
With the exception of a guest spot on her husband David Duchovny’s Fox drama The X-Files in 2000, Leoni, repped by UTA and Mosaic, has not done television since the end of her NBC comedy series The Naked Truth in 1998. Spring/Fall joins another female-centered HBO comedy pilot recently greenlighted by HBO, Armando Iannucci’s Veep, starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a female U.S. Vice President. Also recently picked up to pilot at HBO are Aaron Sorkin’s cable news show drama starring Jeff Daniels and Doug Ellin’s comedy 40 toplined by Ed Burns. Leoni and Robin are with UTA.

thump thump thump — the sound of my heart beating faster – Tea Leoni has it all…
Except for Julia Roberts career… and other leading actresses careers… which she so desperately wanted for so long.
Doesn’t sound funny at all. Which makes it the perfect comedy for HBO.
I’ll be at the gym.
Quick. Cue Dancing with the stars for the boss of all comedy on treadmill 6.
nice to see female leads without major defects. Yes Showtime, I am speaking to you.
Totally my cup of tea. Great to see her talent on screen again. Since Deep Impact to Jurassic Park 3 she’s been terribly underrated yet a terrific actress and I’m looking forward to this. Please keep covering this project.
Are they still trying to convince us that this woman is a star? Newsflash: she’s not.
Newsflash: your are a mean idiot.
Agree with you Miffy. This project is doomed to fail. She’s a walking disaster in RL.
Never understood why critics think this woman is talented. Her movie career has floundered for years, so I guess it time to head back to TV.
Once again another feather in the cap of Jimmy Miller who deservedly
is building his movie and television empire….party on Jimmy you
earned it and the best thing you EVER did was unencumber yourself from
you ex talentless blood sucking partner…
She’s not listed up there, but Ann Blanchard deserves some real credit for putting this one together…
Ann thanks. We get it. You deserve credit.
Tea is awesome. Did you see her in “The Family Man” or “Spanglish”? She deserves to have a great project centered around her to show all of her talents. Way to go, I would definitely watch!!!
Kate Robin is what makes this series so exciting for me. She’s a brilliant writer, both in theater and on television. Kudos!
Why is this listed as a TV movie on imdb?
…..and no one says nothing about Sigourney Weaver? it’s sounds like inspired by “The devil wears Prada” but anyway it can be more or less fine
