Sony Pictures Classics has released a trailer for the Morgan Spurlock-directed documentary POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. SPC bought rights just before the film debuted at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and it’s about Spurlock’s humorous efforts to get a film financed through sponsorships. Judging by the NASCAR-like formal wear he sported at the premiere party that was covered with sponsor logos, he succeeded.

This looks horrendous. Spur lock is quickly turning into the most annoying man on the planet: a documentarian with nothing to say. If you don’t understand, there will be a movie to explain this point of view in the next five years.
Scott’s post was brought to you by Preparation H.
And Pampers.
I saw this at Sundance and thought it was so lame. It didn’t tell me anything new and had nothing to say that was original; was just a one-off narrow gimmick/tactic of getting brands to pay that he made into a documentary. It was mean-spirited too, he was mocking brands that essentially paid for his joyride. He’s seriously a d-bag.
I hope this movie doesn’t knock advertising dollars. I hop you don’t think it’s still cool for the majority of you hacks in Hollywood to continue to lose investors money in art house BS films. The game is changing and there are only a few in this town ready for it…..
That trailer felt like it lasted 30 days.
Big fan of Morgan, but this does look boring as hell. Sorry. Hope I’m wrong.
Shocking that Ralph Nader was available.
Looks cheesy and gimicky.
Genious
“Genius”.
But it’s not.
One thing audiences don’t want is some smug douche telling them something they already know (and accept for that matter!)
No one has a problem with product placement. And the joke’s already been done to death. What a waste of time and money.

Sweet. Duplicate posts under different user names.
Maybe not all people see the transparency of advertising — or obvious smear campaigns.
er… nope. Didn’t see my original post immediately so thought it hadn’t gone though or that the username was taken.
I, one person, claim both posts and stand by what I said.
@Worse than Madoff. Interesting comment re:
“The game is changing and there are only a few in this town ready for it…..”
I’m relatively new here. Anyone care to elaborate how the game will look in five to 10 years and who or what entities will determine that? Or direct me where I might learn more?
This site and comments are a real education. Thanx in advance…
For all that shit talking! Lol
I saw this at the EFM in Berlin and found it edutaining (I think that’s the word). Morgan Spurlock is a love or loath him character, but the film’s well made, gave me some new insights and knowledge (and I work in this business) while the structure, sort of layers within layers, does work. It would be interesting to know how those companies featured i.e. the sponsors feel about the finished result, but nowhere does Spurlock hold them up to ridicule or diss them or their products. As he makes blindingly clear, without them the film would not even exist.
