White Irish Drinkers, John Gray’s heartfelt coming of age story, which premiered at 2010 Toronto International Film Festival, opens March 25 in New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Toronto and rolls out in 10 other markets in April through Screen Media. The pic also opens the Craic Irish Film Festival in New York March 10. Here’s a new trailer:

Saw this at TIFF, was well above my expectations. That being said I’d just seen You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, so my expectations were very, very low.
This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Great story line, great acting and all done on a small budget. I saw it before it was released to the public and the entire audience loved it. Definitely a must see and possibly an Oscar contender.
Karen Allen = Jacki Weaver?!?
I’d rather see Kill the Irishman.
What a very imature and quite frankly, creepy post to put up. Your parents proud?
MUST BE A GUINEA!
this looks absolutely terrible
They don’t look irish
WTF?!? Are you looking for cute little freckle-faced leprechauns? FYI, the Irish are a vast and varied people.
To me, this kind of story where ignorant people choose violence out of myopic desperation, is a lot scarier than horror films. Looks compelling.
agreed. I am 100% Irish, my parents and their parents parents throughout and I am mistaken for spanish (until i open my mouth) on a regular basis.
I’ve actually seen this and it is way, way better than the trailer would lead anyone to believe. Great performances, touching but not cheesy, and they captured the time period well without being on a crazy budget. Recommend!
Agreed 100% ..great movie, captures the era and slice of life well. Much better than trailer…ups and down, but overall an UP…
It got great reviews. I just bought tickets.
Looks good. Trailer quite compelling. I was not interested When at tiff, but will check it out now.
I’ve also had the opportunity to see this movie when I was at the Toronto Film Fest, and I really liked it. I’d never seen many of the actors, but they really delivered! The movie was surprisingly funny and rowdy, but sincere (and definitely Irish). It’s got an awesome soundtrack, too. I’m excited to see it again at Craic Fest!
Gotta love the Irish! White Irish Drinkers is an incredible film full of passion, from its filmmakers to its cast, you can tell that this is a film that people believe in. Director John Gray even put up his own money to make the film happen, and I definitely appreciate some risk-taking in the name of film http://bit.ly/hl7vHz
I saw this film at the woodstock film festival. It was amazing. It stayed with me long after the film was over. I cried and I laughed. so worth seeing.
“White Irish Drinkers”…sounds like an insult comics opening line.
“Irish drinkers”. I thought that ethic stereotyping was Politically Incorrect in Hollywood.
Or does this just apply to certain stereotypes?
I don’t care if the movie’s made by Irish for St Patty’s Day.
The title is politically incorrect, isn’t it?
Can you imagine the outcry from other stereotype movies…
“White Italian Mafiosa”
“White Jewish Merchants”
“White Catholic Pedophiles”
“Black Rapper Thugs”
No way in hell Hollywood honchos would greenlight any of these titles.
But no one seems to have a problem with ” White Irish Drinkers”.
Why so?
It’s an independent film paid for by the director. That said, I don’t think anyone in Hollywood is too concerned about insulting the Irish…or hiring them.
