Fox just officially announced that Antonio “L.A.” Reid, who resigned yesterday as chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group, will join Simon Cowell on the judging panel of The X Factor. “L.A. was my number one choice to sit alongside me on the show,” Cowell said. “In my opinion, he is one of the greatest ever music executives and of course a fantastic writer and producer. I am thrilled he has agreed to join the show, and for any artist auditioning, they know they have the chance to meet a true star-maker.” Auditions for X Factor begin March 27.

A great choice? LA rode to fame off the more talented Babyface and failed miserably by overpaying for acts like Mariah and Janet who’s biggest days were a good decade ago. This is a huge fail on Simon’s part and because only TV people are covering this, the truth is ignored.
Your facts are completely wrong, Mariah and Janet were not overpaid, they were both gotten on the cheap. Mariah paid off with an album-thanks to Reid’s direction, that sold over 10 million world-wide. Janet ended up battling LA Reid, and got what she got: a film career.
He’s an outstanding choice by Simon Cowell.
Simon knows he pulled off a coup by the signing of Mr. Reid~A powerful man of color with authentic captain of industry credentials.

Yohoho, get your facts straight. Simon does not want a guy who agrees with him all of the time. Look at Louis Walsh on the UK version of X Factor. Louis and Simon fight all of the time. Plus, Reid launched the careers of Mariah Carrey and Rhianna. So, he obviously knows what he is talking about.
Correction: he had a hand in relaunching her career in 2005.
Simon should consider hiring a safe, non~threatening, Emmy and NAACP Image Award winning personality like Wayne Brady as host.
And just how many discounted discs did it take for Mariah to reach that mark? And how much in PR did it cost? A successful executive just doesn’t walk away from a successful job to join a reality show (that he or she didn’t create) without reason. And as someone else mentioned, you don’t bury your announcement on a Friday without reason either. Reid is an joke within the industry and everyone knows it.
