EXCLUSIVE: Writer-producer Jack Orman has inked a new two-year, seven-figure overall deal with Sony Pictures TV. ER alum Orman wrote and is executive producing Sony TV’s buzzed-about ABC pilot Pan Am. Described as a sexy soap set against the Jet Age, the pilot, directed/exec produced by Thomas Schlamme, revolves around pilots and flight attendants working at the iconic Pan Am airlines in the 1960s.
Under his previous two-year deal with Sony, Orman landed pilot orders both years: for Matadors at ABC last year and Pan Am, also at ABC, this year. Orman’s first TV writing gig was as a freelance writer for an episode of JAG, which led to a staff-writer position on the military drama. Orman then joined NBC’s medical drama ER where he spent six seasons, rising to executive producer/showrunner. Additionally, CAA-repped Orman co-created and executive produced the CBS drama series Dr. Vegas.

How good is the Pan Am pilot script. I saw a good review on Afterellen.com
This guy is way too nice, fair and level headed to have the success he’s had. Seriously, who does he think he is?
Are you joking? He was a notorious asshole at ER. Maybe there’s a miracle and his fall from grace after leaving the Wells camp may have taught him some humility. Somehow I doubt it. Matadors was a pretty good script, though. Pan Am, on the other hand, sucks.
The Pan Am script is godawful. Grey’s Anatomy on a plane. Best bit? One of the stewardesses IS A SPY.
Wahoo!!
Awesome showrunner, amazing writer — great news! Pan Am is one of the best scripts I’ve read so far this season — complex characters, all with distinct voices and varying degrees of conflict in their lives, woven together to create an intriguing world.
Don’t know about the writing, but the guy is legendary as a fantasy football team manager!
I was an international stewardess for six years at that time. “Stewardess” is what we were called then. I took at 6-month leave of absense and “hitch-hiked” around the world in 1967,. During the adventure, I was caught up in the 6-day war in Egypt, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, raced camels in Pakistan, and lived for a short time in Iran (under the Shah). Tons of stories. I am currently writing about my life back then. Is this of interest?

I was a pilot for Pan Am from 1966-to the end.I have published my Auto Bio “From Cubs To Clippers”. I’ve had many exciting flights throughout my career, many with PAA. I only hope the show will not turn out to be a complete mushy soap opera. Our Flight Attendants were some of the most highly educated in the industry, most spoke more than 2 lanquages. Actual events that took place on my airline do not need much embelishing to be made great entertainment.
