UPDATE: Two 3D animation movies were supposed to open big in Japan this weekend for the March school holidays. But Disney’s Tangled and DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind are now in limbo. That scary 8.9 magnitude earthquake in Japan also looks to have a major impact on the technology industry and in turn entertainment. Sony stopped production in six of its northeastern factories, which produce Blu-ray discs, magnetic heads for hard drives, and batteries. That could affect games, movies, and computers (some of Apple’s components are made in Japan, but there’s been no word whether the quake will affect the launch of the company’s iPad2 that is set for this weekend).
In fact, the entire sector may feel the pain by the halted production and any long-term issues which could have a ripple effect throughout Japan, Hawaii, and of course California. The national touring company of Spamalot packed up and left Ventura because of the tsunami warnings.
Meanwhile, the Vancouver Island beach area in British Columbia where Taylor Lautner and Kristin Stewart and others are filming the finale of the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn, were evacuated. Needless to say, Internet chatter made a big deal of this.
In the meantime, Hollywood actors, pop stars and rockers have gone online to express sympathy for victims of the tragedy.

I know this is a little off topic but it definitely could have an impact not only on work in the movie business here in Los Angeles but also on all of our overall health.
I don’t know if this is connected but it seems quite suspicious that the sudden die off of millions of anchovy sardines in Redondo Beach harbor happened just one day before the earth quake in Japan. Perhaps it’s only a coincidence, perhaps it’s connected. It is worthy of taking note of.
Also for some reason the television news sources reporting on the fish die off repeatedly stated that experts claimed it was due to a lack of oxygen in the water. But being a very logical and observant person myself and never one to take at face value anything that I’m told, I couldn’t help but notice that the only fish that had died, that I could see, were the sardines!
If these fish died due to a lack of oxygen then all the other species of fish living in the harbor would have died also from the same lack of oxygen and we’d see them floating or dead at the bottom of the harbor as well.
But no, there were no sting rays, no halibut, rock fish, dog or leopard sharks, opal eye perch, Garibaldi or any of the dozens of other different species of fish that reside in the harbor, visibly floating or dead at the bottom of the harbor.
So what really killed all those sardines?
I’ve also been seeing, quite often recently, con trails from jet planes flying back and forth, spraying something in the air over the Palos Verdes and San Pedro areas in a spider web pattern that slowing drifts earthwards. What the hell are they spraying? In fact they were spraying just a few days ago during those high winds that were blowing through Los Angeles. Then we had the fish die off a couple of days or so later.
So is the earth and the fish die off connected? Or is the mysterious spraying of our skies connected to the fish die off? And if so, then if the spraying has any direct correlation and can kill that many fish at one time, then what could it do to us?
If everyone starts coming down with mysterious illnesses or some new flu, this could impact Los Angeles’ economy as dramatically as any natural disaster and may very well be a man made and calculated disaster.
I don’t know if any of this stuff is connected or not but I’m just throwing that out there for everyone to chew on for awhile and perhaps start observing for themselves and start demanding some honest answers to some serious questions.
Having family in Shizuoka Japan, my condolences and prayers go out to them and all the people of Japan.
I think the spraying in Cali is what caused the earthquake in Japan.
Those sardines did not die because of the earthquake.
That doesn’t make any sense.
If you had pay attention, it was a lack of oxygen in the water closer to shore. The area was packed with sardines. Also the coastal area of LA’s water is heavily polluted and they shut down the beaches every year for highly contaminated water. …And still people go in the water like fools.
Any news about the folks on Life of Pi?
Really, the Cove strikes back? This tragedy is the result of messing with dolphins? Right… You’re an idiot just like those religious nuts who blamed the September 11 terrorist attacks on feminists, homosexuals, abortion rights supporters, etc. Go back to your sandbox.
::rolls eyes:: Quoting some r-tard “mariner” to mask your own thoughts eh? Lamest excuse out there. Here’s a tip dumbass. Don’t bring up irrelevant stupid crap when there’s a disaster leaving a bunch of ppl dead and expect readers not to be provoked. It’s obvious you’re just trolling.
These kind of annoying taunts aren’t surprising. There are a slew of similarly obnoxious responses by users on news articles at the Washington Post, Huffington, etc. about the earthquake/tsunami, saying the dolphins, whales, and whatever else are getting their “revenge” on Japan. One can only imagine how upset these trolls would be if the tables were turned and someone mocked the suffering of their families and countrymen. In light of the dumb remarks made by Alexandra Wallace, among many others, it’s good to see that people aren’t putting up with this type of behavior.
Thank God Kristin Stewart and …what’s the name of the guy with the big nose? ..oh yes – Taylor Lautner, are safe!

I don’t know about everyone else, but now I’ve seen this message, I feel like I could truly believe in the almighty.
Thank goodness he is an all forgiving god who forgives bad spelling and grammar.
This is no joke. Something is happening here and don’t even pretend to explain it. I was just thinking about this the other day, that we are literally killing the planet. Maybe, it’s possible the planet will start killing us. I’m not pretending to explain what just happened in Japan, New Zealand, etc., but it’s weird.
I half-expected you to blame the trees. You need to stop watching Shyamalan movies. It seems that disasters only seem to bring out the crazies.
The browser froze. It should read “it seems that disasters only bring out the crazies these days.”
Over 10,000 could be dead and we worry about Hollywood and it’s elite morons? Digusting sense of priorities.
Great point. If the earthquake had happened before the Oscars, it would have illustrated your point even further. It makes all of the back-stabbing and greed seem even more pathetic.
Passing off the deranged, emotional, knee-jerk reaction of what seems to be a fringe, animal/planet-loving seafarer in a matter-of-fact kind of way and especially in the context of all these body counts … errr … is clearly intended to provoke and offend. Put it another way, why bring up an easily discredited, ignorant, and, not to mention, incredibly dumb comment “attributed to someone else” in the first place unless you’re just trying to get someone riled up? Speaking of “the inscrutably stupid”, you’d do better looking at yourself in the mirror.
