Is it possible for NBCUniversal to make any more use of Jimmy Fallon? Obviously, the answer is yes. Here’s the press statement:
The Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood, which has taken over 150 million visitors behind the scenes of the movie and television industry’s biggest hits, will introduce a new video “host”
this spring as comedian Jimmy Fallon, star of NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” becomes the ride’s “virtual Studio Tour Guide.” Jimmy will be introducing a series of videos that will be seen on the Hi Definition monitors located in each Tram car to augment the “live” narration provided by Universal Studios Hollywood’s tour guides.
Jimmy Fallon said, “We really had fun with filming my role. We brought some writers out from our show and added some jokes, more play with the Studio Tour guides, the tram drivers and we added a song or two. The tour itself is a classic, a really great experience. For anyone with any interest in show business, it’s all there: the glamour, the glitz, all the hard work that goes into making a movie or a TV show can be experienced on the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour. I’m very happy to be a part of it.”
The addition of Jimmy Fallon’s presence comes on the heels of sweeping enhancements to the Studio Tour, including the addition of “King Kong 360 3-D,” created by Peter Jackson, the world’s largest, most intense 3-D experience. .

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the future host of “The Tonight Show”…
This is about the level of success that Jimmy Fallon should be at. Only, he should be doing the tour live. He’s barely funny enough to be a Universal Tour Guide. Does that mean that he wiped out all those tour-guides jobs? Nice work Jimmy. that means no tourist participation with the guides and no variation on each tour? Wow Universal, you even know how to mess this up. The only thing remotely interesting on the tour is when the guides go off script and also have interaction with the tourists or a random heckler. Jimmy Fallon’s “comedy” career is baffling. So is this decision.
He’s not replacing the guides. He’s replacing Whoopi in the pre-recorded segments that are on the tram monitors.
Why didn’t they get Leno to do the tour? His audience are the people who go on this tour he even does some Jaywalking segments there or at least he used to. Conan should do his own version of the tour he should pay the ridiculous admission price and wander around with a phone camera and narrate the whole tour then air it on his show if he pays the admission price then there’s nothing NBC could do to stop him from airing the video.
Why not Leno? Because his demo is 55+, and the Universal tour’s cross-section demo is considerably younger and doesn’t like him or watch him. Also, if you produce a show / experience like this, you don’t want to have to reshoot the whole thing in a year or two or three because your star has left NBC Universal. Fallon will be around for awhile. Leno? Not so clear.
And for everyone who disses Fallon when the subject of THE TONIGHT SHOW succession comes up… go back and look at early-1960s tapes of the young, hyperkinetic, frisky Johnny Carson, before he acquired a little gravitas. The similarities are intriguing. Think what kind of performer Fallon could be at 50 or so.
Hmm, they didn’t use Leno for this?
Smack.
better than whoopi
Yes, it’s possible to make even more use of Jimmy Fallon. Get him into the Tonight Show chair where he belongs. I watched Jay the other night and he did a joke about Monica Lewinsky! could he be more out of it? I immediately switched the channel so I felt like I was back in this decade.
Jay feels so…old and tired.
Guess i’m going to Disneyland then.
Leno is going to be forced into retirement one year from now it will be his 20th anniversary he started in 1992 if he’s lucky they’ll let him stay until 2013 but that’s all he’ll get. Fallon will get the Tonight Show as soon as Jay is forced out. If they were smart they’d force Leno out in June he’s dreadful and terrible is there any way they can do this? Or get Leno off stage by Labor Day so Fallon can take over in September for the new fall season.
If Fallon gets The Tonight Show, will Carson Daily still be stuck on Last Call?
man oh man nbc sucks.
The guy’s likeable, talented and a hard worker. His show gets better by the week. I was among those that winced when he was named host of Conan’s old slot and thought him to be a disaster.
He’s growing. Give the guy a break.
This sucks!i thought Jimmy fallon would be there live
