Scrubs alum John C. McGinley is set and Adam Arkin is in final negotiations to join the ABC multi-camera comedy pilot Smothered, from Andrew Reich and Ted Cohen. The Warner Bros. TV-produced project centers on young couple Zack (Kyle Howard) and Gillian, who find themselves smothered by their two very different sets of parents, Zack’s (Marcia Gay Harden, Arkin) and Gillian’s (Julie White, McGinley). Arkin is with ICM.
TV writer/Daily Show correspondent Larry Wilmore has joined CBS’ untitled Peter Knight comedy pilot. The project, from Sony and Happy Madison, is a workplace ensemble revolving around the young-adult employees at a high-powered venture capital firm. Wilmore will play the intimidating boss who has a playful side and cares about his employees. The Bernie Mac Show creator, repped by UTA and 3 Arts, was recently seen in Dinner for Schmucks.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

Nothing worse than an “intimating” boss. I can already imagine the teaser out: “What did he mean?!?”
Larry Wilmore has a dry witty sense of humor on Daily Show but McGinley does as well…not sure how two comedians doing similar shtick will play off one another.
Good thing they aren’t going to be working on the same show — or network, even — then.
Julie White? Cool.
I know, right? She’s the best.
Thank you Julie White’s agent.
Bumper crop of Af-Am leads in pilots! Yay! Let’s see how many make it to series.
Couldn’t be happier for Larry. A huge talent!
Larry… Larry…I was one of the 8 people who paid to see Dinner of Schmucks. Please, please, please, please don’t do any more acting. Please. OK? Please.
Larry Wilmore is great. You should read his book. really funny. Congrats.
Larry is a genius.
Hey Adam Arkin,
Why don’t you ask ABC why they are trying to bust your union?
Remember you are a SAG Board member who ran on the Unite for Strength slate. For the three years your slate has been in power, practically all the prime time TV shows have gone AFTRA, including “Smothered”.
Please ask ABC what gives. Are you aware of how many SAG actors have lost their health insurance, because of the networks attempt to bust SAG with the assistance of AFTRA?
Larry I am so happy for you!
