EXCLUSIVE: Julie Benz has joined her No Ordinary Family co-star Michael Chiklis in booking a pilot in second position. Benz has joined CBS’ untitled Susannah Grant drama pilot which, like NOF, has high-concept elements. Jonathan Demme is directing the supernatural medical drama, from CBS TV Studios and Timberman/Beverly, which centers on Michael (Patrick Wilson), an ultra-competitive surgeon whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle), a doctor running a free clinic, dies and begins teaching him what life is all about from the hereafter. Benz will play Michael’s sister, an unfocused and overwhelmed single mother with a huge heart. ICM-repped Benz co-starred on Showtime’s Dexter and recurred on ABC’s Desperate Housewives before she was cast as the female lead in NOF last year. That show’s star, Chiklis, last week signed on to topline another CBS pilot, the comedy Vince Uncensored. Both are in second position to the ABC superhero drama, which has struggled in the ratings and is doubtful to return.

Really a bummer that the show might not come back.
What’s a ‘pilot in second position’?
It means that if No Ordinary Family comes back next year (it’s not going to), she cannot do this series.
Thanks.
I liked the characters of Michael Chiklis and Julie Benz, but couldn’t stand the kids’ characters. The acting was good, but the kids’ stories were eh.
I only watched NOF because of Benz but found the show borderline unwatchable. They took a solid premise and cast two annoying teens in unlikable roles. The pairing of Chiklis and Benz was chemistry free and neithers best friend was remotely compelling.
Benz deserves so much better than that drivel after some great performances on ‘Angel’ and ‘Dexter’.
ABC’s loss for wasting in a half baked show written for 6 year olds and with yawn inducing title. Goodbye No Ordinary Family!
“Solid premise” bwaahahaha come on man…
Julie is way cute. Liked her in the Rambo movie. Never took a liking to NOF.
Put a fork in this turkey-its DONE! They should have made this like a live-action The Incredibles, but instead it was maudlin and melodramatic, esp the kids and their storylines! Too bad, cause I LIKED Steph and Jims stories and chemistry!
I liked the show but I should have known better to like a show on broadcast television. That’s why I usually stick with series on cable.
“Benz will play Michael’s sister, an unfocused and overwhelmed single mother with a huge heart”…am I the only one who wants to see her play a real bitch again? Dexter, that Christian missionary in Rambo = more of the same. She was fantastic as Darla in Buffy.
so it sounds like nof is done i think if they changed somethings an gave them a second season they be ok
Doesn’t this character sound exactly like the Rita character from Dexter?
And really , she is NOT a great actress. Just about any blond could have done the roles of Darla and Rita. She isn’t what made those roles; it was the writing of those roles. She is not a good actress.
My son and I liked NOF and My wife and I liked biggest loser. The conflict was unfortunate but I could keep up with ether on the web. So put a new show up against a well known longer running show of course you will get poor ratings. Looked like a good take off for next season
