Oklahoma-born Kristin Chenoweth has Southern belle written all over her. Now the Broadway star will be able to show off her heritage with a co-starring role in ABC’s dramedy pilot temporarily titled Good Christian Bitches. After lengthy on-again, off-again negotiations, Chenoweth has closed a deal to join the project, written by Robert Harling and produced by Darren Star. It stars Leslie Bibb as Amanda, a mother of two and onetime “mean girl” in high school who returns home to Dallas humbled following a scandalous divorce, hoping to get a second chance at winning over her old classmates. Chenoweth will play Darlene, the beautiful and manipulative head of this group of women, the G.C.B.’s. A classic Dallas housewife and villain motivated by her skewed sense of goodness, Darlene goes to church regularly, knows her Scripture and has no compunctions about breaking a few Commandments here and there. She was once one of the girls Amanda was mean to, but she’s now too much of a good Christian to do anything more than forgive Amanda and welcome her back. This marks Chenoweth’s return to ABC, where she co-starred on another dramedy, Pushing Daisies, which earned her an Emmy. Chenoweth will next reprise her character April on Fox’s Glee.

the weirdest thing is that when I first heard of this show, she came to mind mind, and I knew she would be involved in this show. Could be interesting show, but with a different name.
Isn’t she 10 years older than Bibb? Odd casting.
Ummmmmmmmmmm and the point of this show is ummmmmmmmm and I’m to be drawn in and set my dvr because ummmmmmmmm why? And surely I smell Lindsay Lohan making a cameo, right?
Ew.
My interest in this show just went up about 15 points. Her AND Leslie Bibb? This thing better be picked up.
This show sounds hilarious, especially with Kristin on board. Pushing Daisies was fabulous, the early cancellation was criminal.
Kristin is perfect for this plus she gets to play a villain this time around so it broadens her horizons although I’m sad her show with Ryan Murphy isn’t happening right now I’m just happy Kristin could be gracing my tv again this fall!
Just sold me. I’m totally in. She is one of the most underused performers.
Fantastic news.
is this what she won for being picked on the Bachelor tonight? seriously the same person
You watch the Bachelor? Wow!
Hot! This show just went to being most-wanted. I cannot wait. Great casting.
This show and ‘halleluja’ could be massive hits for ABC.
The River could be a hit too.
This is what Network Brass and creative minds are peddling to their target demographic? Yikes! God, help us all. Another pile of crap.
Kristin Chenoweth deserves BETTER. What a pathetic waste of her great gifts and talent. Ugh. No thanks.
Looks like they are really going for the shock factor with “Bitches” in the title….what are they going to follow this with “The Suburban Blow Job Diaries”? Please get a title that our kids can hear promos for while we’re watching NOF.
WTF?
No one is watching NOF, so don’t worry about it.
I agree with you. This title is ridiculous and will fail before launch.
Yes, we can’t have our precious children hear the world ‘bitches’ on TV. That would scar them for life.
Oh yeah, saw Kristin in Promises Promises on Broadway this summer….she was the worst part of the production. Maybe television is the place for her since the big screen and stage are not.
I didn’t like this show… until now. I LOVE Kristin! But hasn’t she earned the right to be the star of her own show by now? And whatever happened to her Ryan Murphy sitcom-in-the-works at Fox? It looks like it not only won’t be happening this year, but will also not happen for another 5-7 years… Odd.
Love both leslie bibb and kristin chenoweth..i hope this pilot gets picked up to series and gets scheduled sundays after desperate housewives…wishful thinkin huh??..
Kristin first came to mind for me as the role of Denise Donghandler in the untitled Brian Peppers project.
Does Jamhard Prods still hold the option for “The Precarious Upbringing of a Full Blown Baby”? That was one of my favorite reads coming out of Custardmen’s IP Expo last year.
You think she’s right for Donghandler? Chenowith seems a bit too sunny, maybe a better fit for Regina Spreadems? Hope that show finds its way into the right hands!
1. The show will be picked up w/ the same title.
2. The religious right will go after it like no show ever.
3. This will drive people to sample the show.
4. The fact that it isn’t very good will drive people away.
5. The show will go “on hiatus to be re-tooled” November 17th never to return.
6. Next!
Hahaha. Spot on, mate.
completely agree! Wrong tone for right now; would have worked 10 years ago
I agree with 1-3. This could be a hit. Who knows. everything else on TV sucks ,so this won’t be any worse
Has Kristin been cast as Leslie Bibb’s mother? Didn’t anyone see her on Glee? She is way too old to play someone who went to high school within the last 30 years… I sense a major rewrite on the way. Now, we’ll be hearing that Chenoweth will be playing the friend of Bibb’s character’s much much older sister…
Kristin Chenoweth looks younger than her age. Plus, she played a former high school classmate of Matthew Morrison and she is 10 years older than him in real life.
Short doesn’t equal “looks younger.” In her 20s she probably got mistaken for younger because you expect a grown woman to be taller and have a deeper voice, but now she just looks 40s and petite. Kristin’s basically said she still gets mistaken for late 20s, but it’s just not true. I don’t know if any of her friends have the nerve to tell her the truth. She looks exactly her age. Part of that is the heavy eye makeup and hair. She could definitely pull off late 30s with the right look. She’ll probably be great on this show.
PLEASE TELL SOMEONE TO ADD MARY KAY PLACE–
Chenowith is only 6 years older than Bibb. Chenowith graduated from high school in 1986. WTF, WTF?
Despite the chastisement and bullying this comment may yield, I will admit, as a Christian, I’m offended. Particularly by the title which makes a mockery of my and my family’s religion.
I work in this business and am always respectful to people with varying faiths. I’m a liberal. I voted “no” on prop 8. I don’t think anyone’s going to hell simply because they don’t share my same beliefs.
With this title, I take issue, because it not only demonstrates a double-standard in Hollywood, it also allows a studio and network to blatantly demonize a religion on billboards and with marketing hype.
Christians need to establish their own ADL, stand up and call this out, REGARDLESS of the spitting vitriol it may incite from the fringe left. To NOT say anything is condoning the show by way of concession.
Well, as a liberal and a Christian myself, not only am I not offended, I wonder what took them so long to do a show like this. There are women like this. I’m known some really catty women who call themselves Christians and break Commandments they supposedly believe in while throwing religion in your face. It’s full of irony and hypocrisy. Kristin’s Christian as well, you’d think she’d refuse to do it if it made a mockery of anything. I don’t think you could’ve possibly gotten enough out of the description of the show to know it’s mocking anything. If anything, there’s the potential to contrast people who say they’re Christian vs others who really do the whole ‘love thy neighbor’ thing. It could show up people giving Christianity a bad name, for all you know. Might want to wait to see it before you judge (except you really shouldn’t judge so…maybe turn the other cheek?).
Yes,there are Christian women like this, but not as a rule.
It is a really offensive title and premise for a TV show-what’s next?
Asian women driver’s ed as a reality show? Muslim women get hot makeovers? Jewish women, lesbian women,,etc, where are their offensive shows? All women should protest this on behalf of their Christian sisters and demand better writing for TV shows that everyone can enjoy.
I like the questions you bring up. It is questions we should all be asking. Who are the people at the very top of the mediea, why are they just targeting Christians in this disgusting manner? and why women as well. I think this “show” should be boycotted myself.
Hollyweird is becomeing to awful. I like free art, but art this is not.
I agree! The only “fairly good” programs are on HBO, Showtime, and Starz…..bring back Party Down! Best show no one ever knew about!
“It could show up people giving Christianity a bad name, for all you know.”
It already has a bad name dear…. and it was not Hollywood that caused it.
So are we free to make shows called goood muslim bitches or good jewish bitches? Remember put things under a equal observation. If the idea falls flat then you know it’s so wrong.
