Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler, who turned down a slew of offers for broadcast pilots this season, is now being courted for FX’s drama pilot Powers. Based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the project, written by Charles H. Eglee and to be directed by Michael Dinner, is a police procedural set in a world where superpowers are relatively common. It centers on two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, in a homicide department that deals with cases involving “powers” (people with superpowers). Powers, from Sony Pictures TV and FX Prods., went through a couple of incarnations, including one with writer Kevin Falls.
Chandler has not committed to Powers and will not make a decision until he reads the new script. I hear the pilot was already slated to undergo a rewrite, which is now expected to incorporate notes from Chandler. So him signing for Powers is considered a long shot, but if he opts to do it, FX would successfully reunite the two Friday Night Lights leads — Connie Britton recently signed on to star in American Horror Story, the Ryan Murphy-Brad Falchuk pilot for the cable network. At FX’s upfront party last night in New York, FX president John Landgraf said that Powers, along with Outlaw Country, are contenders for an early 2012 series launch, while American Horror looks good for a fall 2011 premiere. Chandler has been very selective in choosing his TV follow-up to FNL, passing on a number of projects, including Terra Nova.

I fucking love this casting as he’s really amazing in FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.
Kyle as Christian, tough casting, fantastic actor but somehow can’t picture him interrogating someone. let’s hope he pulls Cranston on us.
“You want to know what supervillain shot up this toy store? Sure, let’s talk about what supervillain shot up this toy store. But see, my problem isn’t with what supervillain shot up this toy store, frankly I’m not all that concerned with what supervillain shot up this toy store.
“Now you get your mind right and you get back to that crime scene!”
GREAT fit for this one
I can’t figure if terra nova would have been viable with him holding it together, or if he just simply dodged a bullet there.
Sure last I saw he was holding the screen in a JJ Abrams blockbuster trailer.
OMG MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!
Ha Ha! Anna, I concur. This is great casting.
This sounds like Alan Moore’s TOP 10. It’s a shame DC / Warner hasn’t developed that instead. Anyone out there have intel on that?
Supposedly the creators (Bendis and Oeming) had the first two issues in the can when they heard the news of Alan Moore’s Top 10 coming out. Apparently it freaked the hell out of them (as it was Alan Moore after all) but thankfully they felt they were different enough to keep going.
And as it’s one of the best comics of the last decade, we’re all better for it. (Top 10 was pretty amazing too.)
I love you Coach Eric Taylor.
Always nice to see an actor getting his script notes taken seriously.
I would like to see him do movies for a few years, but he is born to be a tv star. He made Early Edition better than it had any right to be.
So now Tami is on American Horror Story and Coach Taylor could be on Powers.
I love you, FX.
Kyle Chandler needs to be on ABC,NBC or CBS in hopes that there might actually be a new show on one of the major three that is well written and RENEWABLE. Here’s a novel idea….get Kyle and maybe two or three other studs, pen a decent script and make all the middle aged women happy! Too much to ask?
I’d rather see him on cable. I fear on network, he’d get stuck with some procedural show. He’d be great, I’m sure, but the show would be same ol’ same ol’.
He deserves better.
This will never happen.
This makes me think it will happen.
Not a huge fan of this property… The comic started out strong, but lost its way.
In Top 10 all the cops are supers. In Powers they aren’t, they just investigate supers.
Kyle Chandler is such a big star that he can demand notes before he commits to a project? LMAO! Incorporating the notes of an actor the majority of the population wouldn’t recognize in a police line-up coupled with the fact that this is another in a long line of police shows (despite the superpower element) just reeks of been-there done-that trash. Yawn.
Powers > Top 10
It’s not even close. Not saying Top 10 is weak, just that Powers is the best book out by a mile. Not sure Chandler is big or imposing enough tho.
FNL greatest Network TV family drama of all time
Dean Cain or C Thomas Howell will wind up taking this part. Kyle’s about to become a feature lead after YEARS fucking around in TV.
Oh, I hope he gets into Features
He’s so great. I see him as having the Clooney type appeal for women/men alike
but that he can also play a man with a family/history…which is something I don’t think Clooney really does. He’s more sincere
Is it another The Cape or Heroes? Please don’t do it if it is.
Any day now Google will be invented so you can answer questions like this for yourself.
I’d watch Kyle Chandler eat unflavored Jello shot in black and white…on video…without sound. Yes, he’s that great.
I hope he doesn’t do it, he’s too great to stay on the small screen. We need him in movies!
