After seven years as co-anchor/anchor of syndicated entertainment newsmagazine The Insider, Lara Spencer will exit to join Good Morning America in May as lifestyle anchor. Based in New York, she will cover issues like family, parenting, health, fitness and work/life balance and will be involved in the morning program’s entertainment and celebrity coverage. In addition, Spencer will contribute to ABC News’ Nightline.
Spencer started off on WABC-TV in New York and worked for GMA as a national correspondent for four years before going to The Insider in 2003. Last year, Spencer was considered the lead candidate to succeed retiring Mary Hart on The Insider’s sister newsmagazine ET, but the job eventually went to Nancy O’Dell. “Lara and I have incredible memories together, so it’s bittersweet to say goodbye,” The Insider/ET executive producer Linda Bell Blue said. “We respect her decision to accept this exciting opportunity and wish her every success in her new job.”
Last week, Kevin Frazier started as co-anchor of The Insider, replacing Chris Jacobs who left to become ET correspondent. This is part of a larger restructuring according to Aaron Meyerson, President of Programming and Development for CBS Television Distribution. He added that a new co-anchor for The Insider will be announced soon. Spencer’s deal with GMA was brokered by WME’s Jon Rosen.

Lara was always horrid towards PAs and other “little people” when I worked there years ago. Can’t imagine how she’ll handle the early morning rise!

Et made a bad call. Nancy Odell and her rapunzel hair and face bloated with juvaderm puff and puddy is off putting. I wish some women would wake up and realize that even 12 yr olds have creases in their faces when they smile. This trend to look like cabbage patch dolls or Sally jessy Raphael circa 1994 is creepy.
I love Nancy O’Dell, i just with that ET would be more entertainment based and report industry news rather than being tabloid tv.

You are so right about Nancy O’Dell. That straw colored rat’s nest she calls hair is fugly. Those are horrible extensions. And that puffy face which never moves is incredibly distracting. Plus she’s a freaking loud mouth. I can’t watch ET because of her.
Who’s Lara Spencer?
LS was a reporter on local new in nyc, Eyewitness News many years.

Nancy O’Dell was a much better choice for ET, although that’s nothing to be proud of. For ten years now, ET has been an unwatchable, trivial mess. It’s all hype, driven by publicists; there’s NO news whatsoever.
If news is broken, it’s done on TMZ.
Lara is so empty and fake in her reporting. Too bad. It’s all just turned into a mess of blond, botox and boobs.
I quit watching the Insider because of Lara. She thinks she all that and she isnt. Thank Goodness I dont watch GMA neither. At least I wont have to see ads about her anymore!
They did drop the ball and should have put Lara Spencer as Mary Hart replacemant and never never never let Kevin Frazier go he is way much better than Chris Jacobs and if stays on Inside Edition then I’m switching no more Entertainment Tonight. Why mess with a good thing Nancy ODell yuck I missing Mary already. Thank You

I can’t stand that tv show! She’s always shouting!, She’s most likely very overpaid for what she does. She reads tabloid headlines in a dramatic tone for a 1/2hr a day, and now she gets a spot in GMA? I guess they’ll take anyone.
She is just mad she didn’t get the ET job. But she’s ambitious and will want to anchor GMA someday. Just a matter of time.
I don’t think that will be easy to push one of the GMA anchors out.
It’s funny when she was on Eyewitness News in NY years ago. There was a sat show as well anchored by another local reporter/host Roz Abrams who I just love and respect. LS started appearing along side her and then one day it was just LS. Funny how that seems to happen.
Lara Spencer’s big mouth and attitude cost her the prime time ET gig. When Inside Edition and ET swapped anchors two weeks ago, her her fate was sealed. At least on GMA she’ll be forced, to a greater extent, to cut out her political crap and sarcasm. The producers appear to have been grooming Christina McLarty for the female top spot. Time will tell.

I know comments like the above is supposed to make the commenter seem superior to us sub-humans who don’t have lives, but, in actuality, it makes Ed look pretty stupid, as he read the article, which clearly explained who Lara Spencer is, yet he still has no idea who she is.
It’s like reading a book for class and writing in the book report “What is Wuthering Heights?” So, here’s an “F” for you and all others of your ilk, Ed (which must not be a nickname for Educated).
She lost the ET anchor to Nancy O’Dell now she going back to ABC, she going backwards.
Loved her on Antiques Roadshow.
Lara has never been any good, I think she pushed Pat O’Brien to drink and get him off the show, now maybe I will watch it more. As for GMA I do not watch it so no worries there.
Lara was pissed she didn’t get ET job. She took her microphone and went home. Sore loser.
Lara is the best and will continue to be wherever she goes.
Lara will be a perfect fit for this.

Glad Lara is gone. Now it’s time for Kevin Fraser even though he just started. Everyone needs to change. Do not bring people over from ET or anywhere else. New People Period.
Access what/where? After 22 comments, not a single reference to a program that has no reason for being. If it weren’t NBC-produced for NBC O&Os it would never exist. Nancy got out at the right time. Thankfully, no one is confusing that turd for “competition” for these turds.
Little by little, I’ve stopped watching The Insider. I couldn’t stand the segment about what Lara was wearing and what she would wear the next day. Who could be so full of themselves as to think for one minute the viewers of this show cared? But what really made me stop watching was when the show became a fighting match with Chris Jacobs as the loudest mouth of all. Then they had a panel of no nothings putting everyone down when they should be looking in the mirror.
So then Mary Hart leaves ET and I felt it was about time. She’s too old and the legs everyone used to rave about are not even in style any longer and would be considered heavy in today’s style. So I was glad when she announced she was retiring. And then what do they do……they bring in Nancy O’Dell another out of touch with style host. Someone needs to tell her that her hair went out of date with Farrah Fawcett. Since they were getting rid of someone who was getting old, why replace her with someone who be considered the same in a few years. And then they bring in Chris Jacobs…..the reason I stopped watching The Insider, and that does it for me. Right now, I’ve turned to EXTRA.
I can’t believe Lara Spencer (with her ego) has agreed to be a correspondent on another show — GMA. I’m just hoping they didn’t lure her there with talks of her someday taking over GMA.
And the thing I dislike most about ET is when they say “Only on ET”. Only on ET and every other celebrity news show on the air. Let’s face it…..TMZ gets the news before everyone else does. Getting off my soapbox for now. I think the person they should have replaced is the one who hired these people to host these show. Get rid of Nancy and get rid of Chris Jacobs and I might watch the show again. And please don’t bring back the one who used to host Dancing with the Stars (can’t even remember her name) — another huge ego like Lara Spencer.
Lara is HOT. Killer smile. Toned arms. Looks good in clothes. The show has changed so much lately. There us NO saving it. For all if you insiders who work with Lara, get a grip. They’re “talent” and they sometimes act that way. I’d like every hater woman who dissed Lara to post your headshot and accomplishments and don’t forget to include blogger/hater no talent resentful ugly hair and make up/script supervisor, day laborer, non union has been.
