Legendary Pictures announced today that Guillermo del Toro is directing the company’s upcoming feature, Pacific Rim, confirmed as his next film. The film has already entered pre-production and will begin principal photography in September 2011. Pacific Rim will be released during summer 2013 and will be produced by Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni for Legendary Pictures and Guillermo del Toro.
Stated Guillermo del Toro: “We started developing PAC RIM a while ago with the mad passion and enthusiasm of a project unwatched and unchecked by politics or comparisons. We designed and shepherded the movie we want to make. We start shooting in September and we hit the ground running because we are so in sync. My partnership with Legendary represents, both in scale and creative demands, a huge step forward for me.”

Pay attention. No studio is mentioned. This film is no more real than MOUNTAINS. Del Toro is so self-destructive.
Probably WB will pick it up. Legendary is their partner after all.
Legendary is their bitch, I mean bank. Nothing more nothing less.
We are disappointed with and for you, Guillermo. Hopefully Fox will pick it up as GDT finishes his tenure with Uni up. My interest in Pacific Rim just increased 1000%. We await your vision for ATMOM! Viva El Gordo!
I love Del Toro, but the more he comments, the more it looks like his ego is spiraling out of control. The fact that he hasn’t made a movie in years, and that more than one have fallen apart – well…let’s just say he is the constant.
Your right. It’s HIS fault that his dream project didn’t get the greenlight. Damn you Del Toro! Damn you to hell!
(insert scathing sarcasm. repeat)
V
you read that script?
Del Toro gets screwed to often I think something is amiss, hope this one goes ahead though because he is starting to get that Cimino wibe. Always loved Cimino so no one misunderstands.
One of the top 3 living directors today. I’m just happy he’s found his next project. Viva Guillermo!
Is Del Toro going to have a THIRD onsecutive project slip through his fingers? Having seen many of his interviews, he is an obstinate individual. He doesn’t have the refined diplomacy skills of someone like Chris Nolan. It wouldn’t surprise me if Del Toro fell out with Peter Jackson and James Cameron, and if Pacific Rim blows up in his face also.
Something’s wrong with Señor del Toro… he spreads himself so thin in too many bogus projects which never materialize after years of hype, he published a series of dreadful books ghostwritten for him as if he were a cheap celebrity, he hasn’t made a real movie in years, he keeps being overhyped and becoming over exposed but no real work is out there. I think he is very talented, original and a great guy, but something’s wrong with him. Please, Mr.Del Toro, get yourself together.
…I don’t think that’s true. I saw Del Toro and Hogan in Boston, and hogan was lamenting that del toro hogged all the good gory parts. The story and the horror stuff feels totally del toro. Isn’t he writing his own book too sans hogan.
The del Toro New Yorker article was such a desperate attempt to try and keep a limping project afloat it was painful to watch. This flatulent windbag has no shame and will talk to anyone who’ll transcribe his hollow words. From one project with a flawed script to another.
Let’s hope this one goes ahead. Guillermo needs a plummeting fall grace to rein in his rampant hubris. Or maybe this will just join his list of Frankenstein, Meg, Creature From The Black Lagoon, Drood, Haunted Mansion, and on and on and on and on…
Wow, you’re one bitter and unhappy wannabe, rimboy. The man was just promoting himself and his work, a basic stapke in this business. He ain’t hurting anybody. He makes mistakes, yes, but mostly he is the one who pays for them. You haters and pathetic resentful nobodies would better devote your energies to get a date, a life or move out from your folks place. The only freak in this show is you my friend.
