A relatively small standoff over retransmission consent will probably get big attention because of its timing. LIN Media’s 17 stations, mostly CBS, Fox and CW affiliates, went dark on Dish Network systems today, just two days after the FCC said it will review the current retransmission-consent rules so that it can prevent such blackouts. The markets impacted by the spat include Albuquerque, N.M., Austin, Texas, and Buffalo, N.Y. At the center of the dispute are fees broadcast stations, previously free to cable and satellite providers, now want to charge for their programming.
“We only want what is fair for our local stations, so that we can continue providing the premium news, sports, entertainment and other local programming that is most important to viewers,” said LIN Media president and CEO Vincent L. Sadusky.
Dish’s statement included direct accusations against the station owner: “LIN Media is simply being greedy, insisting on a rate increase so immense that Dish Network and its customers couldn’t possibly absorb it. Their onerous demands and burdensome contract terms would result in payments of millions of dollars more each month, exceeding current market rates and demanding more money than we pay most of our popular national networks.”

We wouldn’t want Charlie Ergan to lose a nickel.
Just another time that Dish Network puts corporate profit before customer satisfaction.
I truly can’t understand why anyone would use Dish Network period.
Their customer service is the worst of any company that I’ve EVER dealt with! I switched to Direct Tv several years ago and have have absolutely no problems at all. Even Comcast is better to deal with than Dish Network. I see no reason for Dish to exist in my world.
The Entitlement Crowd whines once again.
Maybe Michael Moore will donate his millions to help give you free TV. Don’t hold your breath. Leftists like Moore have one rule: do as we say not as we do.
I’ve had Dish for 10 years and have never had ONE problem or reason to call them.
So you’re saying that you have no problem if Dish drops channels that you currently receive while they try to negotiate a more profitable payment to preserve their profit margin?
And WTF does Michael Moore have to do with this article?
I’ve had Dish Network for over 15 years never had a problem. What Dish Network needs to do is charge ala carte for each local station, if people don’t want to pay for LIN broadcasting then let then let the customer drop the channel. Then see how LIN changes its tune when they lose viewers and can’t get the ad rates they want.
Local stations and station groups are a joke.
As a home theatre installer, I deal with all of the cable and satellite companies. I hear more complaints about Dish Network than any other company.
I have no connection to any cable or satellite provider.
From my own daily experience in dealing with all of the different cable and satellite companies, Dish network has the worst customer service of any of them.
More and more of my customers are switching from Dish Network to DirecTv or Fios every week. Of the handful that have switched TO Dish Network, I hear A LOT of complaints.
****To the people that say they have never had a problem with Dish Network, What do you do when they drop a network or channel and you can’t watch the next episode of your favorite show. It happened several times last year on Dish network with FX and several other channels.
You deal with the outage, when Dish Network dropped KOMO TV (ABC) in Seattle, I went down to Lowe’s bought a $30 Phillips square box HD antenna stuck it on the roof for 5 months and got a perfect picture when they got things resolved I took it down and ran it through the Dish box. I hate increases I would rather just pay for what I watch, who in their right mind can watch 250 channels? You spend all your time using the remote. Local stations are getting greedier and greedier every year. It’s not like they have some great programming.
People are lazy now days; they need to get off the couch and think of what to do. As for lost episodes use the internet especially ABC you can find almost all the episodes
All these people campaigning for Direct TV (AWFUL rip off) and the like by bashing Dish network, are clearly just championing for their best interests…
But to accuse Dish of over-reaching to increase profits?? Not a chance – they would never want this awful publicity or inconvenience to their customers. Anyone who knows anything about the broadcast industry knows LIN is trying to bend them over a barrel.
like everthing else the rich keep getting richer no body cares about the people.
But if we don´t have rich people, nobody will spend money for the poor ones.
