EXCLUSIVE: Talent manager/producer Lisa Blum has joined New Wave Entertainment. Blum, who comes from The Collective, is bringing all of her clients including Marlon Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Orlando Jones, Jennifer Hollander (Universal’s Merman), Jim Jefferies (HBO’s I Swear To God), Gary Owen (TBS’ House of Payne), Virginia Williams (USA’s Fairly Legal), Pete Johansson and Sammi Hanratty (American Girl).

Anyone that goes into business with Paul Apel is not doing their homework.
Paul Apel is a great guy. I interned for New Wave last semester and he was the nicest of CEOs, making jokes and being cool. What’s your beef with him?
It’s not Paul, he is ineffective but harmless. Brian Volk Weiss is one of the most incompetent, aggressively assholish and completely disturbed individuals in a business that sets the bar rather high. Oh and he is in way over his head and he knows it. The phrase operating from a place of fear comes to mind. He will run that company straight into the ground.
Good luck Lisa. You will need it.
I could not disagree more. Brian Volk Weiss is a superstar. He is the face of New Wave and has his fingerprints on almost all of the productions and success of their clients, specials. And he is straight-forward and easy to deal with unlike most of the town. Great guy.
Paul is ineffective? Where do you get that from? He gets things done.
A place of fear? Haha. Jesus, this isn’t Swimming with Sharks. I broke his power steering on his BMW and he was cool about it. In fact, he even let me drive his Prius afterward.
Can we please stop having wet behind the ear interns and PAs stand up for the owner of a company who leads by ego and empowers others of similar ilk to display unprofessional and demeaning behaviors to their employees and staff. Sounds like Lisa is at the right place indeed!
As far as I know, Paul the CEO does not lead by ego – he was very courteous and friendly. He does not empower anyone to display demeaning behavior, either. That is pretty ridiculous.
Where do you get this from, The Onion?
Great hire! Lisa is a pretty savvy customer. Well done.
Lisa’s the best. This will be a great addition to New Wave’s team…
she sounds like such a hack
anyone know what happened with her at Collective????
Couldn’t hang probably.
From Jimmy Miller to the Collective to New Wave? Sounds about right…
Jimmy’s not such a catch either…
I hear she eats children’s dreams and drinks dolphin blood. Good luck, New Wave.
never heard that but I’m sooo going to use this phrase sometime!
yawn what the hey is new wave. They have some comedians. No film side and a tv side that doesn’t do much.
What a great choice. She is incredibly talented.
Can New Wave afford Lisa’s need for a new assistant every month because she’s got a track record that rivals the legendary Don Simpson, may he rest in peace!
Shes terrible. Obnoxious with terrible clients. new Wave is a perfect fit
?
She has Pete Johansson and Jim Jefferies – 2 of the best live comedians you will see in the world right now!
Why is this news? Her biggest client hasn’t booked a movie since GI Joe 3 years ago. Hopefully the Richard Pryor movie Marlon was supposed to do will never happen. The rest of her clients are has beens or never will be’s.
She’s fantasitc! People piss off 1 person in this town and it’s over. Congrats Lisa on landing a gig at a great company!
Great for Lisa – fantastic instincts, terrific talent – and great for New Wave.
I wonder if she’s still a wannabe holy roller! Years ago pitched her an idea for a show that re-emerged starring a retired football player who’s forced to move back to his hometown and help to run his family’s fledgling restaurant……oh well, it got cancelled! CONGRATS TO THE THOUGHT VIOLATOR’!!!
Great Hire for New Wave. They are really establishing themeselves.
She’s a lunatic… Never before have I witnessed someone talk down SO rudely to so many assistants. Was like a revolving door. Good luck New Wave is right! Marlon Wayans and Cheri O’Teri? Too bad The WB still isn’t in business.
Lisa is a fantastic human being and an excellent manager. She’s smart, well liked, cares and does the work. Congrats to new wave.
Marlan Wayans is going to be a massive star and work forever.
Where the hell have you been hiding 2003?
Thanks for the comment!
Wow- New Wave Entertanment? Very interesting move. A step down I suppose. Good luck with that.
Can we please stop having wet behind the ear interns and PAs stand up for the owner of a company who leads by ego and then empowers others of similar ilk to run divisions of the company. Definitely do you homework with these folks!
As a former assistant of Lisa’s I am very happy for her. Yes- she can be tough, but she is good at what she does and NWE is lucky to have her. It is rare to find someone in the management world who is a professional – and she is
“Comes from” the Collective AKA got fired. Nice!
She is awful. She postures more than she works. If not for Marlon, she would have been done long ago.
