In a recasting, Margo Martindale has been tapped for a co-starring role in CBS’ untitled Susannah Grant supernatural medical drama pilot. Jonathan Demme is directing the pilot, which centers on Michael (Patrick Wilson), an ultra-competitive surgeon whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle), a doctor running a free clinic, dies and begins teaching him what life is all about from the hereafter. Gersh-repped Martindale will play Michael’s sassy and strong-willed assistant Rita. Martindale replaces Law & Order veteran S. Epatha Merkerson who was originally cast in the role. The recasting was made shortly after Merkerson began filming the pilot. Tony-nominated Martindale has been recurring on FX’s Justified.
Veteran Hector Elizondo has joined ABC’s untitled Tim Allen comedy pilot. The multicamera project, from writer Jack Burditt, centers on Tim Fitzgerald (Allen) who, even though the world around him has declared the traditional male an “endangered species,” is fighting for his manhood in a world that is being increasingly dominated by women. Elizondo, repped by Gersh and manager Mark Teitelbaum, will play his boss at the Euclid Demolition Company who steps down from his post and makes Tim the president of the company.
Stella Maeve has landed the last lead in the NBC comedy pilot Lovelives. The multi-camera comedy revolves around married couple Tim (Ryan Hansen) and Holly (Amanda Loncar) who, along with Tim’s siblings Blake (Sean Maguire) and Maddie (Maeve), and Blake’s sarcastic ex-wife Kate (Smith Cho), navigate the twists and turns of love in New York City. Maeve, repped by Abrams Agency and Principato-Young, recurred on Gossip Girl.

Love both Martindale and Elizondo. Good for them!
Yes, they are both wonderful character actors.
Oh, wait. What happened to Merkerson?! Still “yay” for Martindale, but I was really excited to see S. Epatha on TV again.
Martindale is wonderful and underrated.
I agree that Martindale is wonderful. But how can someone be ‘underrated’ when the industry has recognized them with bountiful amounts of work?
Martindale is making this season of Justified great. Well deserved
I took notice of Margo Martindale on The Riches and have loved seeing her continue to create unique characters on other series. The above post nailed it- she is wonderful and underrated. I don’t know if I am sold on the premise of Grant’s show but with the talent in front of and behind the camera, I am certainly intrigued.
Yay for Stella! She is a rare talent and a great choice here.
Yay! , indeed! She is a rae talent. I saw her in a Bones episode and she totally rocked the house. Really strong acting skills. (Must be a NY actor)
Saw Martindale on “Justified” last night. Her performance was a star turn! That little dance move she made in the middle of her anti-coal diatribe was brilliant.
I have to echo the above sentiments about Martindale. She is totally standing out in an already outstanding cast of the excellent Justified
Goodie. I’ve been longing for another Tim Allen comedy series to totally ignore because I don’t think he’s funny.
Excellent anything with Margo Martindale is good news! Jacksonville, Tx kicked out a lot of talent. It was not the water it was the instructor at the college. Small town values not lost on her. There are no coal mines but a lot of tomato vines where she comes from.
