Former Sex and the City showrunner Michael Patrick King is bringing an alum from the hit HBO series to his new project, NBC’s drama pilot A Mann’s World. Mario Cantone, who played blunt Sicilian-American gay event planner Anthony Marantino in the Sex and the City series and two movies, has been added to the cast of A Mann’s World, which stars Don Johnson as Allan Mann, a 50something handsome and sexy straight Beverly Hills hairdresser who is struggling to stay young and relevant in a place where looks are everything. Gersh-repped Cantone will play Allan’s salon manager, an opinionated, single gay man who handles all the moment-to-moment decisions about running the salon and acts as the “mother” to the salon work family. Also cast in the pilot is Jesse Jones, repped by the Gage Group and Untitled, who will play Allan’s son.
The Social Network and The Pacific co-star Joe Mazzello is set to co-star in ABC’s drama pilot Georgetown. Written by Will Fetters, it centers on Andrew Pierce (Jimmy Wolk), an effortlessly charming and brilliant Yale graduate and the youngest Presidential speech-writer on record. Mazzello, repped by UTA and Eric Podwall, will play Peter, another junior White House staffer who lives with his best friends Andrew, Nikki (Katie Cassidy) and Sam (Daisy Betts). Also cast in the pilot is Condola Rashad as an ambition lesbian journalist reluctantly working the Style segment of PoliticalCapitol.com when she’d rather be covering hard(er) news.
Reggie Lee (Prison Break) has joined the cast on NBC’s drama pilot Grimm. Created by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, Grimm is described as a dark but fantastical cop drama about a world in which characters inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales exist. It centers on Nick Burckhardt (David Giuntoli), a good-looking detective who starts to see humans as beast/animals and discovered that he has a legacy – to protect “humans” from these beasts. Lee will play a cop who works with Nick. Grimm reunites Lee with another Prison Break alum, Silas Weir Mitchell, who also-co-stars in the pilot. Lee, repped by DSA and KLWG, was most recently seen in the feature Life as We Know It and in a recurring role on ABC’s No Ordinary Family.

Georgetown and Grimm seem like great pilots. But, Mann’s World seems terrible. I wonder why Bob Greenblatt picked it up?
I heard A Mann’s World was a holdover from the past NBC regime and he was going to face massive penalties if he didn’t put the pilot into production. I just don’t know how A Mann’s World works as an hour long show, though. It sounds like a half hour comedy show… at best.
I doubt A Mann’s World will get picked up, though.
I heard Mazello also tested for the role of Burt Sniff in the untitled LOGJAMMERS pilot.
OMG. Georgetown is gonna be so AWESOME. I LOVE KATIE CASSIDY!
What is the Logjammers project? I keep hearing about it.
Dear media, can you please not include the word ‘gay’ anywhere near any phrase or sentence that also includes the word ‘Cantone.’ Instead, just use the phrase ‘flaming stereotypical shrieker’ instead and everyone will know who you are referring to. Yes, of course, the PC zombies will scream that everyone is to be accepted and loved for who they are, but Mario has absolutely nothing to do with the other 99% of gay people who are absolutely nothing like him.
@jk
Amen!
Mann’s World sounds really horrible, possibly the worst drama pilot for this season. Grimm is OK, but it looks like ABC’s Once Upon a Time is a better fairytale concept. And after getting burned with My Generation, do we really think that ABC will pick up Georgetown?
Georgetown sounds great! Except, I feel kinda bad for the producers/crew because Condola Rashad is a nightmare. I have no idea where she got taught how to act like a diva (wink, wink) but you really need to back up that kind behavior with talent and that ain’t happening.
I don’t know if this Condola Rashad girl is a good actress or not. She might be great. What is always so clear about these showrunners is that they hardly ever cast Hot or interesting ethnic women or men for that matter. The most color you see in any of their shows that shows any coolness factor? Jessica Szohr and she is practically white. All their other casting is cliche’s. Can an Asian guy be cool? Can an Asian girl get the guy or can she be anything more than the dorky or overly styled asian “extra” friend? I haven’t seen it yet.
In saying this, maybe this lesbian role and this Condola Rashad girl will change this. But how much you want to bet that she is not the hot woman and she is non threatening other than by her brains to the white girl. Sorry. Just saying it like it is.
