No Ordinary Family star Michael Chiklis is returning to comedy as the star of CBS’ half-hour pilot Vince Uncensored, from veteran sitcom writer Phoef Sutton, Conan O’Brien’s Conaco and Warner Bros. TV.
For Chiklis, the pilot is in second position to the freshman ABC drama No Ordinary Family, which he stars in and co-executive produces. The actor, who won an Emmy for The Shield, was planning to sit this pilot season out but was offered CBS two comedy pilots: Vince Uncensored and the untitled Filgos project. Because he had been tied on No Ordinary Family, which just wrapped production, he could technically only do a comedy pilot as half-hour pilots start production later than dramas. Landing Chiklis was a big priority for CBS. To do that, the network also signed a development/holding deal with the actor behind his pact for Vince Uncensored.
As for Vince Uncensored, it centers on a man (Chiklis) who, after a life-changing experience, decides to take a more honest approach to his life, work and family. Sutton wrote the script and is executive producing with O’Brien and David Kissinger. WME-repped Chiklis starred on comedic drama The Commish and comedy Daddio before switching to drama with FX’s The Shield and ABC’s No Ordinary Family.
Meanwhile, the sets of No Ordinary Family were taken down on the Disney lot today. A rep for the studio said the space will be used for a PGA conference. While folding sets away when production is done to make room for filming pilots and other activities is not unusual, with the show struggling in the ratings, the move could become permanent. After a very promising start, No Ordinary Family was assigned one of the most competitive slots this season, Tuesday 8 PM, where it has faced an uphill battle against Glee and NCIS.

I’m kinda bummed if this means the end of NOF.
Me too. It’s in a bad time slot. I hate when good show don’t find an audience.
I don’t see the good in it. It sounds like an idiotic attempt to riff on The Incredibles, but for twenty hours instead of two.
“Sounds like…”
You mean you’re bashing a show you haven’t even watched? You MUST be an executive, somewhere.
This dude needs to get back to serious drama. The Shield was brilliant.
I second that. Shield was the best.
The Shield was incredible. But it’s gonna be tough for him beat it. Vic Mackey was a career-defining role for him. Almost anything else is seem too toned-down after that.
Meh — The Shield was a tad overrated…
and overacted.
I hope NOF comes bac, it really enjoyed it, the cast was great. Tough time slot
No Ordinary Family is a wonderful show that we all watch religiously in our family household. Given enough time to settle in to the day and time slot, I’m certain the show will grow in the ratings. My advice to the programming execs at ABC is to be intrepid and stick it out for at least one more season. Resist the urge to touch the paint before it dries completely.
Good for you. I personally think it was right for the audience to shun it. We don’t need The Incredibles on TV, and Chiklis deserves better…
Wow, and again you’re bashing someone who has actually WATCHED the show they are commenting on, unlike you.
I take it back, you’re not an executive, you’re a 15 year old. I think I hear your mom calling, time to mow the lawn junior.
Phoef Sutton is a master of his craft. Big names should be flocking…
If that script is written by a master, then the TV landscape is in worse trouble than I thought… The highlight joke of the pilot is that the family still has dial-up internet. Yep – master work, that.
Phoef is a master of what craft? Never ran a successful show by himself, never created a successful show, hasn’t worked every day on a show since Cheers (which ended 20 years ago). I’m only asking on what basis you make the claim.
Spot on. The Shield won’t be beaten.
This is pretty much it for NOF. If it had good prospects of renewal, Michael wouldn’t have shot a pilot. Adieus NOF. It’s a nice harmless show but no way a Must-see. It’s one of those shows you DVR and watch at ‘some point’. And those very low ratings….
Interesting to read these ‘fan excuses’ – the time slot, it needed more time, it wasn’t promoted enough…
Michael Chiklis comes over as a genuinely nice guy. Am a fan and i’ll watch his next show.
No Ordinary Family is an awesome show. I don’t even have a family and I watch it religiously every week. I seriously hope it returns next season. I thought I’d hate seeing him in this show, but it’s actually nice to see The Chik doing something so different than The Shield, which is one of my favorite shows ever.
Going to miss NOF . Appointment viewing for me and my boyfriend and our group of guy friends. Surprised Chilklis didnt take the offer he had on LOGJAMMERS.
Obvious plants are obvious.
NOF is a horrible show.
No Ordinary Family was awful. Bad storytelling with lots of trite moralizing. They can say it was a tough time slot but it debuted to strong ratings in that same time period. People started tuning out because the show was poorly executed. Autumn Reeser was the one bright spot.
YES! Couldn’t have said it better.
I read the VINCE pilot and it is very funny and touching. Hope Chiklis is the right fit – it could be a terrific sitcom.
This is sort of like Richard Nixon’s kid getting together with Albert Einstein’s kid and producing a show about five friends who hang out a coffee place all day and drink cappuccino.
One senses a certain awe-inspiring level of missed opportunities.
i want more vic mackey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
