The hiring comes amid reports that Miramax will soon offer its library of over 700 movies to major online services for digital streaming:

SANTA MONICA, CA – March 28, 2011 – Miramax today announced that Joe Patrick has been appointed Senior Vice President, Head of Domestic Television & Digital Sales, effective immediately. Patrick will be responsible for all Miramax domestic television sales to broadcast and cable networks as well as digital deals. He will report to Mike Lang, Miramax’s CEO, and he will also work closely with EVP Eric Doctorow on digital distribution.

His significant experience in TV sales and digital is exactly what we need as we maximize our library in these areas,” said Lang. “Investing in the resources necessary to grow our television and digital distribution is a key part of our strategy, and Joe will play a central role in that effort.”

Prior to joining Miramax, Patrick, 41, was Executive Vice President at MGM Worldwide Television Group overseeing all TV sales in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America. He also oversaw digital distribution including EST, VOD, and SVOD with clients such as Apple, Netflix and hulu. Previously, Patrick was Vice President at MGM Domestic Television handling basic cable sales, and prior to that was Vice President at MGM Television Europe where he secured distribution deals to launch MGM Movie channels in Israel, Germany and Turkey. He started his career at MGM in Distribution Services in International TV.
