MTV has picked up its remake of the award-winning British series The Inbetweeners to series with a 12-episode order. Brad Copeland wrote the adaptation and serves as the showrunner. He is executive producing with Iain Morris and Damon Beesley, creators of the original series, and Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment.
The Inbetweeners, which was greenlighted to pilot in September, stars Joey Pollari (Avalon High), Bubba Lewis (To Save a Life), The Virginity Hit star Zack Pearlman and Mark L. Young (Big Love) in a high school comedy described as Superbad meets Freaks and Geeks. It revolves around four high school boys (Pollari, Lewis, Pearlman, Young) who belong to the “inbetweeners” social class — teens who are not the most cool and popular but not geeky enough to be branded uncool. Taika Waititi (The Flight of the Concords) directed the pilot. This marks the third series pickup for Kapital Entertainment out of four produced pilots. The company has three more pilots now filming at the broadcast networks.
There is no word yet on the future of another high-profile British adaptation at MTV, controversial teen drama Skins, which recently wrapped its first season. Unlike the racy, sexually charged Skins, Inbetweeners is said to be a more innocent and sweet look at coming-of-age. The Inbetweeners pickup follows another recent order of a new scripted series, drama I Just Want My Pants Back.

So after they totally dropped the ball with Skins, MTV decides to go ahead and ruin an even better British series.
MTV has to stop ripping off British series. I thought they would know this after the series “Skins” failed to meet the ratings. Hollywood is losing their creative spark, not just in TV but also in Films. Fairly tell remakes, British series rip offs, 80′s television remakes, studios are evening making movies off of TOYS (Battleship, Candyland, wtf!!!).
Studios executives need to get off their asses and acquire interesting, marketable scripts…. AND NOT JUST READING COVERAGE
This is going to be utter shit. One of the joys of the original is that these boys are some of the most vulgar, foul-mouthed, and hilarious teenagers ever seen on television. Basic cable, especially the crapfest known as MTV is going to neuter and commercialize the hell out of it. This belongs on HBO or some-such… too bad the demographic just isn’t there. Do yourselves a favor and watch the 18 perfect episodes of the British series.

Is this pick-up a sign Skins isn’t going to get renewed? If it did get renewed, they’ll have five scripted shows on air next season, which seems like a lot for MTV.

The British version is raunchy fun and definitely not innocent. There’s plenty of sex, puking from drinking, and one episode with a full on male frontal nudity and another with the guy’s ball hanging out of a Speedo. I’d love to see MTV recreate those scenes!
Go Brad! I hope this show knocks it out of the park. The original series is so funny. According to my calculations the last Brit comedy worthy of a remake is Peep Show.

HBO are the only people who could come close to matching the original. MTV will kill it as usual.
I loved the American remake of skins. But since they totally left us hanging and ditched the show i definitely do not want them to pick in betweeners up. I won’t watch that’s for sure. I’m just going to watch the British versions from now on. Probably a lot less disappointment when they end.

HAHA…HUFUCKINGLARIOUS…have they done any research at all into the inbetweeners, i laughed today when i saw that skins usa was cancelled and the inbetweeners usa was picked up, mtv will fail yet again to recreate an amazing uk show that this canadian watches…and whoever wrote that quote that i just reposted really needs to watch an episode of the actual show, because the inbetweeners has some of the raunchiest stuff ive seen in an actual tv show allowed on tv

To those complaining about them saying The Inbetweeners is less raunchy, it is to a British audience. Comic nudity is not seen as raunchy to Brits, hence why male full frontal nudity was allowed in a film for 15 year olds.
