It is not MTV’s flagship series anymore (that would be Jersey Shore), but The Real World continues to be a signature series for the cable channel and the show that started the current docu-reality craze. Now MTV announced it is renewing the reality veteran for Seasons 27 and 28. Currently airing its 25th season, and in casting for its 26th season, MTV’s The Real World is to date the longest-running reality series in history. The current season is set in Las Vegas and has ranked No.1 with persons 12-34 in its time period. Last week’s episode averaged a 2.3 rating (in 12-34) and 2.2 million total viewers, up 28% from the previous week’s season premiere. “The Real World has remained relevant for 25 seasons because it continues to capture the lives of young adults, hold a mirror to the challenges they face, and truly reflect the current generation,” the show’s exec producer Jonathan Murray said. He created the series with Mary-Ellis Bunim.

Well, I’ve probably watched three season prior to this current one. I took a hiatus for years since I thought the seasons were mostly utter crap. However, for some reason, I find this season more interesting. We’ll see how it progresses.
adam is a fraud. he was never in the juvenile system for home invasion robbery. he is another spoiled brat. he is a phony. no paperwork on him. thats the stuff you get beat for in real life.
Enough already. This fucking show is now pole-vaulting the shark.
As long it remains soaked in alcohol abuse and self-loathing, I’m a fan.
When one of the castmembers is a hardcore gay porn actor, then the show has jumped the shark.
I don’t think it was hardcore.
If you don’t like it, quit your complaining and don’t watch it. I’m glad it’s been picked up. I’d much rather watch this than “Jersey Shore.”
I believe this show is produced for an 18-34 demo and that most Real World viewers are UNDER 30 and women. It hits the target audience, that has to be why it’s been around for 26 seasons!
You can “hate” any show you want but you can’t deny there’s a reason it’s been around for so long.
at the rate mtv keeps renewing real world soon it will surpass both doctor who and the simpsons and series that seem to never end. as for the current season. still waiting for Dustin to have to explain to his roomates about him being a gay porn star.
I dunno a concept here, how about MTV plays Music Videos and not cheap reality. I mean MTV=Music Television which means Music Videos.
I Stopped watching MTV when they stopped playing music videos, and no early in the morning doesn’t count.
*sighs* misses the good old MTV and VH1 as well.
People, remember that girl Rishelle Cannatella from the first Vegas run. She was so fine. I could give anything to see her pop up on Redtube.
I can’t believer people still write the music video comments about mtv. Every damn time the channel is mentioned.
Mtv doesn’t play music videos 24/7. If it did, it would not be profitable. Period. Mtv actually officialy stands for nothing now and they haven’t heavily played videos since 1990 or so. Even in the late 90s and early 00s, its main music show TRL showed bits of video. And now with the internet, that’s gone. Now they could show more music-based shows or shows about musicians, but that’s a different story. Its been about 20yrs since videos. Get. Over. It.
Do you still whine that msnbc doesn’t show technology shows? Complain about the e in espn? Look for classic movies on amc?
Let me guess: In both upcoming seasons:
There’s one kid who’s gay.
There’s one kid who is a born-again Christian whose cherry hasn’t been popped…..yet.
There’s the kid who good badly abused as a kid and now has drug/drinking issues.
There’s the crazy ass party girl/guy who just wants to have fun.
There’s the girl/guy who is nearly perfect, and wants to go into the senate/medicine/law.
don’t forget about the black guy!
We live in a country where most of us have access to 100+ channels. If The Real World isn’t your thing, watch another channel. It’s hilarious how hateful people get. There’s a reason the show is continually renewed. It’s profitable. Pure and simple. MTV would cancel the show if they lost money on it.
Wait, this is still on?
