Nancy Travis has landed the female lead opposite Tim Allen in ABC’s untitled comedy pilot headlined by the former Home Improvement star. The multicamera project, from writer Jack Burditt, 21 Laps/Adelstein and 20th TV, centers on Tim Fitzgerald (Allen) who, even though the world around him has declared the traditional male an “endangered species,” is fighting for his manhood in a world that is being increasingly dominated by women. Travis will play Vanessa, Tim’s smart and loving wife who doesn’t miss much. Allen and Burditt are executive producing the pilot with John Pasquin, who will direct, as well as Shawn Levy, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker and Rick Messina. This is the second broadcast pilot for Travis this season; she also booked a guest starring/recurring role on the CW drama Heart of Dixie. She is with APA and Greenlight Management.
Jere Burns has been cast in a lead role in NBC’s untitled Dan Goor comedy pilot. The multicamera comedy, from writer/exec producer Dan Goor, centers on Adam Foote (Andrew J. West), a doctor who joins his parents’ (Jean Smart, Burns) medical practice and spends as much time tending to his family as to his patients. Burns, repped by Innovative Artists and Jackson-Medavoy, has been recurring on AMC’s Breaking Bad and FX’s Justified.

Love Tim Allen!
Now that’s great casting with the Tim Allen pilot.
The Tim Allen comedy pilot is a shoe-in for a series pick-up unless the pilot completely stinks! but even then I think ABC would then re-work the show and make it good. I don’t think ABC can pass up a comedy with Tim Allen.
ANOTHER show about how white men feel threatened that women have near-equality? At least in this one, he doesn’t dress in drag to get one of those affirmative action quotas for females. Blech.
Bob Greenblatt and Paul Lee seem to be cooking up some great pilots this year!
Jere Burns – Nice guy, good when inside his wheel house.
Jean Smart – Difficult, but totally worth it.
Nancy Travis – Difficult, not remotely worth it.
Nancy Travis is such a wonderful actress and very underrated. She is hot!
Can’t stand Tim Allen. Total one-note. Nancy Travis was fun in a couple of episodes of Desperate Housewives recently though. Had wondered what she was up to. Still remember her playing Duckman’s sister Bernice. Wish she’d get cast as something other than the smartass wife of some loser schlub. She played that on some cable sitcom a year or two ago.
Nancy Travis’s role on HART OF DIXIE is a series reg, not recurring. I love her, but how about spreading the wealth around to some other talent.
Tim Allen and Nancy Travis! I’d be so excited if it was still 1991 right now. 13 n out on this bad boy. Peace!
Nancy Travis single-handedly ruined Becker. Made a great show almost unwatchable.
Cool that Jere Burns got a pilot! Congrats. Wynn Duffy is the most intriguing and, oddly, underused characters on Justified.
What’s with the multicamera all of a sudden on NBC? And as much as I like Allen, but so far as far as the character descriptions go his new project sounds just like a new version of ‘Home Improvement’.
“What’s with the multicamera all of a sudden on NBC?”
Well, their single-camera shows got their butts kicked by CBS multi-camera shows on Thursday, and all their new single-camera shows failed. That’s got to tell them something.
They might not pick up any of their multi-cam pilots (they didn’t last year) but until they get some multi-cam sitcoms in the mix they can’t revive the NBC comedy brand.
Quite a far fall from John Lithgow to Jere Burns. Guess Gail’s losing her touch.
I love Nancy. She is hot, intelligent, very attractive.
