NBC has scheduled midseason comedy The Paul Reiser Show in the Thursday 8:30 PM slot. The single-camera comedy starring Reiser will premiere Thursday, April 14. It will replace another NBC midseason comedy series, Perfect Couples, which will have aired 11 episodes of its 13-episode order. Where (and if) the remaining two episodes of the ensemble comedy will run is TBD. This is the first of several midseason series ordered but not scheduled by NBC’s previous regime to get slotted under the network’s new chief Bob Greenblatt. Still waiting to get a premiere date are anthology comedy Love Bites and comedy Friends with Benefits. Space for comedies on NBC’s fall schedule will be tight as the network recently renewed all 4 of its returning comedies: Community, The Office, 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation.
The Paul Reiser Show hails from Reiser and Jonathan Shapiro. It stars Reiser as himself enjoying the quiet life at home with his wife Claire (Amy Landecker). Thrown together by circumstance, Reiser and some friends including Jonathan (Ben Shenkman), Habib (Omid Djalili), Fernando (Duane Martin) and Brad (Andrew Daly), form an unlikely comradeship — and a pretty lame basketball team. The Paul Reiser Show is produced by Warner Bros TV and Reiser’s Nuance Prods. Reiser and Shapiro co-wrote the pilot as well as each of the episodes that follow, and both serve as executive producers. Bryan Gordon directed the pilot.

My monitor automatically went into sleep-mode while reading about this show.
Anything’s better than Perfect Couples.
Except Paul Reiser trying to be a younger Woody Allen.
When is Night Court coming back?
YES!!!
they’d be better off running a tv test pattern than this thing. the pilot was unwatchable. he complains about not having enough of a career throughout the whole thing. as if we’re supposed to feel sorry that paul reiser isn’t richer and more famous. then he makes fun of his new agent for having an “ethnic” name (she’s indian – with an accent, gasp).
it was like curb if it was terrible.
Agreed. He’s so trying to be Larry David, and he’s not. The pilot was terrible. I don’t think I laughed once. And I remember once liking Paul Reiser and his humor. Talk about washed up comedian.
Wasn’t there some stupid joke about selling Christmas paper??? All the awful pilots last season are kind of mingling together. But from what I remember, there was no chemistry between any of the characters. Just awful. Will be canceled hopefully after pilot airs due to no one watching.
Script is actually pretty good but it had some risqué material. I wonder how much will be out by the time it airs on Thursday’s
WHAT???? And they didn’t buy my Jimmy Walker and Garret Morris form a basketball team at their retirement home pilot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FRESH!
Finally. Reiser is a class act and deserves some respect.
I thought this pilot was pretty good, thought not really the same tone as COMMUNITY, 30 ROCK, etc. This show is softer, more real than those shows, at least when I saw it months ago. Paul is a likable guy, on and off screen. I wish him and the show well.
Two things -is this the real Gabe Kaplan commenting? If not, stop using his name.
Two – why is there a pic of Wilford Brimley here?
Reiser’s series order was four eps. That’s four too many. Sorry, Paul, but it’s time to—well—do what people do when their career is really over.
First I’ve Heard of this. I’ll definitely give it a shot!
Andy Daly is in it. I’m watching.
It’s about time!! I’ve been waiting for this show to finally get on the air it seems like forever.
i thought once Jeff Gaspin left NBC, the show would go with him…. yeah for Reiser getting back on air. it should be funny and quirky. God the Couples show was aweful, and NOTHING could be worse than Outsourced. At least Paul has a proven track record with NBC hits. We’ll see if the public embraces it, but i’m excited to see him back on the tube.
Brilliant casting!
aw shucks! (thank you!)
Nikki,
You get the most awkward photos of these celebs. Keep up the good work!
I can’t believe people don’t like Perfect Couples. I think it’s consistently well written and funny as hell. The whole cast is great. Maybe I’m not as cool as I thought.
No Brian, you are clearly cooler than most here who spend time writing snarky comments about tv rather than watching it.
Brian,
I agree with you completely. Perfect Couples was a great new show. My wife & I love it and will miss it. It has more laughs in it than some of the other Thurs night NBS sitcoms. It’s a shame they’re pulling the plug for a tired Reiser premise.
At the very least it should have replaced Outsourced. I think Couples would play better later in the night, but that doesn’t look like it’s happening.
I think I liked this better as “Men of a Certain Age.”
Paul Reiser…not someone I was champing at the bit to see return to network TV, particularly after “Mad About You” took the slow boat to Pretentious.
@Marky – Isn’t it possible that there is more than one guy named Gabe Kaplan in the world?
That dude omid is f’in funny….I still watch his hbo special. Count me in
Paul Reiser? Really? Way to strike while the iron is hot 1990s. I predict–>fail!
I’d rather watch Olivia Munn read the phonebook.
I’d rather watch the phonebook.
What’s a phonebook?
Thick yellow things people received in the mail in the dark ages before the internet & cellphones.
Today used primarily to prop up shelves or recycled the same day as received.
Yeah, I dunno. Paul Reiser complaining… No thanks. Maybe his poker buds and comedian family find it hip-rip-roarious…
On another note–I wish Mad About You would stream on Netflix.
This should be on TV Land with the Betty White new show.
This show is just Gaspin’s trash. I’m sure Bob Greenblatt knows its garbage.
