Retooled freshman drama Law & Order: Los Angeles will return to the schedule with a two-hour episode on Monday, April 11 and will move to its regular Monday 10 PM time period the following week. “We are pleased to welcome Law & Order: Los Angeles back to NBC’s regular lineup,” NBC’s chairman Bob Greenblatt said. “Dick Wolf and his team have made some exciting creative changes and we can’t wait to re-introduce the show to audiences.”
LOLA will see Alfred Molina in his new role as Detectives Ricardo Morales, partnered with Tomas “TJ” Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll) as they pursue cases through the diverse City of Angels. As part of the creative overhaul of the show, which included the departure of 3 regulars, including Skeet Ulrich, Alana de la Garza, veteran of the mothership Law & Order series, is joining the series, reprising her role as Deputy District Attorney Connie Rubirosa. Staying put is Terrence Howard as Deputy District Attorney Jonah “Joe” Dekker.
Earlier this season, LOLA averaged a 2.5/7 in adults 18-49 and 9.0 million viewers overall. The show launched to some gripes from die-hard Law & Order fans that the newest installment has strayed from what made the first 3 Law & Order series work. In the new incarnation of LOLA, the producers are addressing that, making the series closer in feel to the others, darker and less “blue sky” than its original run in the fall.
L&O creator Dick Wolf is credited with coming up with the plan for changing up Molina’s character after discussing the future of the show with Greenblatt shortly after he joined NBC. Word is Greenblatt has been very invested in the show and was looking for ways to better balance the show, on which he felt the real heft of acting was in the second half, in which Molina and Howard were alternating as 2 DAs. Wolf’s plan allowed for both actors to be on the series full-time and have them throughout each episode, adding weight to the first half.

Interesting. I’m assuming this means that LOLA’s 22 episode season with now be abbreviated to around 16 or so since they are scrapping all the remaining episodes that featured Skeet, Megan Boone and Regina Hall for this “Re-boot”
I started watching because Skeet was on it. Now he is gone and so will I be. Molina is good but not in the same league as Skeet. Watch 3 shows to compare and all I can say is WHOEVER made that decision is STUPID!!!!! I want to see Skeet, so I’m gone!!!!
I’m in total agreement – Skeet was the best part of the show – I will not be watching unless he’s back.
what about Harry’s Law if they air no repeats 13th ep is supposed to air april 11
Great question – What about Harry’s Law?? It was suppose to air its finale that day.
Yeah, kind of agree. B. Stern would be a long bone but not true.
They should just bring back the original.
I agree 100%!! The orginal Law & Order cast is the BEST!!
More cops & robbers!
And in LA, too.
The public’s seemingly inexhaustible lust for watching cops, crime scenes, murders, robbers, courtrooms, says something VERY, VERY, bad about our culture.
CSI, NCSI, Law & Order…never ending crime dramas.
Without criminals, what would we watch on TV?
Skeet Ulrich was the best part of the show and Terrence Howard is the most annoying part of the show — as others have said here before, he always delivers his dialogue like he’s close to crying.
The show hasn’t hit its stride yet so the ‘re-tooling’ is coming too soon. Skeet wasn’t great YET but he had potential; that’s what a first season is for. Him and his partner were just falling into the groove of the characters.
Whatever. I’ll stick to SVU, which is unfortunately getting broader and broader every episode but at least it’s still entertaining.
I’m in total agreement.
I’ve never like Howard because of his stiff delivery.
While I think Molina is an excellent actor, I’ll miss Ulrich who seemed to mesh well with Stoll.
And I don’t miss the mothership, it had become far too formulaic & constantly had the prosecutors bending, if not flat out breaking the law.
That’s why the only L&O I have watched before LOLA recently, was L&O:CI. Very little lawyering there.
SO TRUE,I AGREE SKEET WAS THE BEST PART,AND HE MESHED WELL WITH HIS PARTNER…THEY WERE JUST GETTING RIGHT ON,I FOR ONE WILL NOT BE WATCHING,I WILL HOWEVER BE LOOKING FOR SKEET ON A NEW SHOW I HOPE.THE MEDICAL DRAMA SEEMS TO HAVE PROMISE,ONE CAN ONLY HOPE,AS THE SUITS IN HOLLYWOOD SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO WATCH TV DRAMAS.
Right on! The viewers have no say over anything any more. If I started watching when the show began it is because of who was on it.!!! Not the 2nd string brought in later!!!!
Bring back Skeet!
I started watching LOLA because of Skeet Ulrich. I followed Skeet from Jericho to LOLA and now I will follow him wherever he goes.
Happy to hear the news. Hopefully they have a proper theme song this time around, the last theme was just awkward and creepy.
I want to see how they are going to explain a DA suddenly becoming a detective.
They’re going to explain it by saying he was a detective earlier in his career.
I just saw a promo for the return and it mentioned something about one of there own was going to die. So I assume they have shoot a part where the DA is killed.
Law & Order UK is better.
Right on, it actually has the feel and appeal of the original Law and Order. LOLA seems to be missing lots of stuff.
Love, love, love Law & Order UK. Wish they would bring the 2nd and 3rd season to US on DVD.
If you like watching lawyers wearing white wigs and talking with British accents, it is. I can’t watch that one either.
I am looking forward to seeing this ‘reboot’. I love de la Garza, Molina is a great actor and people seem to love Howard.
Question: how many episodes is NBC going to air this season? Have they addressed that? Has anyone heard?
I’m not sure Monday at 10 is such a good idea, against Castle and Hawaii-5-0.
So are all of the remaining episodes being scrapped? I had a big part in the very next episode. Will it just never air now?
Bring on De La Garza. That woman is so fucking hot it hurts.
Something I definitely thought was lacking in LOLA the first go-round was the sound. They never seemed to have the right background sounds for the LA neighborhoods. Those screeching buses etc. in the original help make the transitions happen. That part of the LA atmosphere was totally missing – and yes, there are sounds, just different ones.
Also agree w/ the comment that the theme song – sounded like a Casio SK-1 on the reggae setting.
I am glad they are giving LOLA a second chance because I really believe it has potential. Though I actually enjoyed Skeet Ulrich, and don’t care for Terrance Howard, I am super excited about the addition of Alana De La Garza. She is fantastic.
Aren’t they killing of Ulrich’s character? That’s what it seemed like from the teaser aired on Harry’s Law tonight.
I don’t know why they thought it wasn’t working to the point of an overhaul. I don’t agree with the removal of skeet ulrich — he was one of the best parts of the show. It’s what another website was saying that they will air 2 new episodes in a row, each getting 20 percent increase from the prior week and then airing a repeat and then returning and losing any gains they just made– nbc is not only bad at scheduling and keeping promising shows with great ratings and then leaving them in impossible time slots against powerful shows and just leaving it there to rot.
In the last episode I saw, Skeet Ulrich and Stoll were investigating the murder of a water department employee. They drove out to an abandoned area under an overpass and for a minute, it was like watching HEAT, the film that will forever capture Los Angeles for me. Everything came together in that pitch-perfect scene that felt like a film, not a TV series. With that episode, I was in: committed to this show. Too bad all the cast changes are coming. I think they had finally hit their stride.
Ridiculous casting changes. Ulrich, Molina and Stoll were the superior actors and most watchable parts of the show. Howard was a soap opera-ish actor and annoying on screen. His emphasemic breathy overarticulations of Ebonic madness were unbearable. The fact that he ‘won’ an NAACP award it a testament to the fact that melodramatic acting is rewarded in Hollywood. I prefer Stoll and Ulrich to ANY of the DA’s.
Switching Molina to cop is going to be LAUGHABLE. Do you see him and Stoll together? Ugggggggggggg.
Once they kill off Winters, I’m done watching.
And we’re supposed to believe Molina’s character decided he’d rather be a cop than an DA?
Sad to hear that Skeet is leaving…I like him on the show. If there is someone who should be removed from the cast…it should be Terrence Howard…he’s a real softie as a lawyer. Why can’t they make Skeet a lawyer…I’m sure he’ll make a awesome district attorney. Mr. Dick Wolf, I think you are making a BIG, HUGE MISTAKE for removing Skeet Ulrich…he is the life of that show.
Law and Order and SVU are my favorite shows. I could not watch Law and Order LA because it was boring. It was not the cast, it was the material.
I believe the 2 hour premier will be the demise of Skeet Ulrich’s character Rex Winters. That is what they meant by losing one of their own. The promo with the bullet flying into the badge shows Skeet in the backround if you look really closely. Since Skeet is the only reason I tuned in and stayed watching the pathetically produced and written show……I will tune in for the premier and once Skeet is gone I will discontinue watching. I would have quit watching after the premiere episode if not for Skeet Ulrich. Never sat through the original Law and Order and don’t care to stick with LOLA either. I do give Dick Wolf credit for Law and Order SVU. That is a well written show with a cast who has great chemistry. Another great show is Criminal Minds. Bye Bye LOLA!
Yes, Skeet is killed in the first episode April 11th. Go to youtube & you can see part of it. I will not be watching it or any of the other episodes. I can’t see Molina as a cop, to me he’s too old. Howard just plain stinks. He is to wishy, washy when he speaks
I hope Skeet got paid for all the episodes that are not shown. I believe there are bigger and better things for him. Without him in LOLA there is no show.
I wont be able to watch the premier of LOLA on Monday, so will it
be repeated on the following Sat. like Harrys Law? If not, how can
I catch it?
Skeet, hope we see you on another show! Hawaii Five-0 is a good show…I’ll just watch that from now on!
The premier of LOLA last night was just as terrible this time around as it was when it premiered the first time. There were no changes done to the dynamic of the show….now they are only missing the one good character they had. I am glad I will not have to suffer through the show just to see Skeet! He ended up the lucky one!! They didn’t even give Detective Winters a funeral. It was so stupid. I actually feel the best acting done in the show was done by Skeet when he did the death scene and the daughter of Rex and Casey Winers. She gave the best acting performance in the entire episode. I am sorry but I don’t see where any changes were made to this pathetic show.
Then they tricked you with the promo commercials into watching the second episode by making you think it was going to be one story. The second hour was unwatchable and boring as hell. I fell asleep during it. Alfred Molina and Corey Stoll do not have any chemistry. Atleast Corey and Skeet worked well together. I am sorry to say Mr. Wolf Alfred Molina and Terence Howard are not going to save this program. I am done with this show..bye bye LOLA
