Nicholas Hoult, who already bagged the title role in Jack the Giant Killer, has landed the lead in Warm Bodies, the Summit Entertainment adaptation of the Isaac Marion novel. The book will be published by Atria, and the film will be directed by Jonathan Levine, who wrote the script. Like the Jack role, this was one of the most coveted parts for young actors.
Hoult will play an existentially tormented zombie who begins an unlikely friendship with the girlfriend of one his victims, and it starts a chain reaction that transforms him and perhaps will do the same for his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world. Summit production president Erik Feig and veep Gillian Bohrer are overseeing.
Shooting starts late summer, after Hoult completes Jack the Giant Killer for director Bryan Singer at New Line. Hoult is repped by UTA and UK-based Independent. The British actor, who has grown from the About A Boy hanf-pint into a 6’3″ leading man. Hoult starred in the original UK series Skins, and starred with Colin Firth in the Tom Ford-directed A Single Man.
Hoult will next be seen playing the role of Beast in X-Men: First Class coming out in June through 20th Century Fox. Hoult will also star in Fury Road, the George Miller-directed prequel to the Mad Max films. That will film next year, with Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron also starring.

Good luck with that since Summit can’t buy a non-Twilight hit.
Just curious…are there ANY films in development by a major studio that don’t involve superheroes, zombies or vampires?
yes, Baby Geniuses 3: Poop’d!
Or British actors.
I have to agree Kwa. We complain about the lack of jobs in America and we can’t even seem to hire American actors for things. The British must be cheaper to get or something like everything else not made in America. Most of our superheroes are even British now. Smh…I guess at least Captain America is American…for now.
Interesting premise. And I will definitely check it out, if only for Hoult – a very impressive young actor.
A love story between a zombie and a human girl? How about we shoot the zombie in the head five minutes in and end it there.
Thank you! Zombies are no romantic heroes, WTF? The whole point is that they are braindead flesh-hungry, decaying mofos, not seductive vampires. This is bascially Twilight with zombies and that won`t fly. Just wait and see.
Holy shit! A zombie movie? Genius!!! I can’t believe this hasn’t been done. This is a long time coming. Finally!
Hoult is a talent amoung younger leading men. I have been a fan of his since Skins. Bring Tony Stoneum to the big screen. I look forward to seeing Hoult in all his roles.
Naysayers who seem to be unaware of the complexities this story provides I think a second glance would be beneficial.
People who read what Naysayers write…think for yourselves. I’ve read the book. It’s a story about self discovery, contemplation, being unsatisfied with self and surroundings and the pursuit of love for who you aren’t supposed to be with along with who you once were. Yes zombies are overdone, but a plot from the eyes of a zombie? Smart and clever.
I suggest reading a review of the book. Then reading the book.
I agree with you. The book is very good. I found myself identifying with some of the characters. Great story and I’m excited for Isaac Marion’s novel to come to screen.
The book is actually incredibly amazing and if you actually do read it then your views of a typical zombie will change completely. It’s a heart warming story and it deserves to be made into a movie.
