EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures has acquired an untitled science fiction thriller pitch that will be written by Brian Miller. He’s the scribe whose writing sample won a contest held by Timur Bekmambetov. That script turned into Apollo 18, the Dimension Films “found footage” pic that opens April 22. Brad Weston will produce the pic. The deal came about after a general meeting with Weston, where Miller pitched what I’m told is a big idea with a budget under $30 million. The studio called the next day and took it off the table. Miller is repped by CAA and 3 Arts.

Dude is on fire. It’s good for all of us when hot specs from talented new writers can get into the right hands.
It’s good for writers who write specs about aliens, which is all that’s selling right now.
Good for Weston…Bob is going to loose his shit.
If this “dude is on fire,” its because Apollo 18 is destined to crash and burn…
What information is this statement based on? Have you received tracking data from any studio on this? Have you seen the movie which is under lock and key? The project is damn cool, has lots of gravity around it, and his script is terrific. You must be some special species of clown to take the time to write in something as baseless as what you wrote. Now go get me another venti latte, scrub.
Ha!
Weston Pictures is on a serious rampage! Bob will be more pissed when it overtakes Deminsion. shouldn’t be hard for Brad tho.
Bob is always angree, good for this scribe.
What contest was this? I didn’t hear anything about this contest. Anyone have any info…? Are they doing it again?
It was the Astana International Action Film Festival’s Screenplay Competition. It’s based in Khazakstan. Check http://www.astanafestival.kz
