Once again, usage in the 8 PM hour was down week-to-week as viewers adjust to the switch to daylight saving time. Last night, the drop was bigger than usual, 12.4%. All 8 PM shows were impacted. Fox’s American Idol (5.6/18 in adults 18-49, 19 million viewers) was down the most, 16%, from last Thursday. ABC’s Winter Wipeout (2.0/7) was down 9% from its most recent original on Feb. 24. NBC’s newly renewed Community (1.7/6) was down 6% for a season low, while new comedy Perfect Couples (1.2/4) was down 14% from Feb. 24 for a series low.
At 9 PM, Fox’s Bones (3.4/10, 11.9 million) bucked the down trend, up 6% in 18-49 and 13% in viewers from last week. ABC tried out 10 PM medical drama Private Practice in the tentpole 9 PM position occupied by the series that spawned it, Grey’s Anatomy. The result was not pretty: Private Practice drew a 1.9/6, down 17% from its most recent original for a series low. Following an Office rerun, NBC’s Parks and Recreation (1.8/5) was down 25% from its last original, which followed a new Office, to tie its series low. NBC had the only original offerings in the 10 PM hour: 30 Rock (1.7/5), down 26% for a series low, and Outsourced (1.4/4), flat and tied as a series low.
CBS had NCAA men’s basketball in primetime. There is no reliable ratings data yet, but the game is expected to be down with NCAA coverage expanding from one network, CBS, last year, to four this year. However, the combined rating for college basketball yesterday on CBS, TNT, TBS and truTV hit a 20-year high.

Viewers are just plain morons. Anyone who missed “30 Rock” last night missed possibly the funniest half-hour of television in the history of the medium.
…in the history of the medium? Tina is that you?
I’ve seen 30ROCK and don’t find it very funny.
I’m sure St Patrick’s Day had nothing to do with these puzzling ratings drops! Who needs TV when there’s GREEN BEER?!
I agree. I don’t know anyone who watched tv last night because everyone was out drinking and having fun. I mean everyone.
1.Bones has hung on to its audience for a long time because it isnt one of those female Badge-ers who act like they have to carry the feminist banner first and entertain us second.
2. The number of ways to say or to avoid saying that AI has lost its mojo is used up. Its day is done. Some good singers tho.
3. Outsourced was a good gag but once you hit the punchline theres nowhere to go.
I disagree about Outsourced – the cast & characters are really starting to come alive. It’s consistently funny.
It’s actually holding on to a pretty good chunk of 30′s rock’s audience.
“Queen of Jordan” (a “30 Rock” show-within-a-show) the funniest half-hour of television? Are you high? It was one of the dumbest excuses for a half-hour of comedy yet seen anywhere, least of all on NBC.
It is absolute proof that “30 Rock” has finally jumped the shark.
I was hopeing Comcast would come in and clean house at NBC, silly me. NBC has renewed most of it’s “Must Suck Thursday”.
Outsourced is a good show. I think if it came on earlier (8 or 8:30) and on a different day it would have higher ratings.
Outsourced I believe is made for the wrong audience. The characters may have been a bit boring during the pilot but they really start to show their strengths and value to the show. If it was produced somewhere else it may have been an instant hit but definitely not is the US.
