ABC’s special Charlie Sheen edition of 20/20 (3.3/10 in adults 18-49, 9.5 million viewers) was the top-rated program among adults 18-49 at 10 PM last night. It almost doubled its lead-in, drama V (1.8/5, 5 million, down 5% in 18-49), a rare feat for a program in the DVR-heavy 10 PM hour. This was ABC’s best performance in the slot with an hourlong program in 2 years.
However, Charlie Sheen didn’t seem to hurt CBS, the network he has been attacking for the past few weeks. Against 20/20, CBS’ The Good Wife (2.2/6, 11.3 million) was No.1 in total viewers and up 10% in 18-49 from last week despite a weaker lead-in. However, NBC’s 10 PM dramedy Parenthood (1.9/6, 5 million) got dinged, down 10% from last week.
Like V, all shows airing in the 8 PM and 9 PM hours took a hit from facing Fox’s American Idol, which is airing in an irregular Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday pattern this week. NBC’s The Biggest Loser: Couples (2.4/7) was down 11% for a season low. ABC’s freshman No Ordinary Family (1.2/4, 4.3 million) was down 14% for a series low. CBS’ NCIS (3.8/11, 19.2 million) was down 14%, NCIS: LA (3.2/9, 15.6 million) was down 18%, tied as a season low.
However, the 8 PM hour offered a sight pretty unheard of in today’s fragmented TV universe – two shows, American Idol and NCIS, drawing audiences of 20 million viewers.
A 90-minute edition of Idol (7.5/21, 21.3 million) towered over the competition in 18-49 and edged NCIS to once again rank as the top program of the night it airs on. Vs. last week’s Wednesday show, Idol was down 5% in the demo. Because of the rule changes this season with only one semi-final round, there is no direct comparison to last season. Vs. the final boys semi-final show last year, Idol was down 9%.
Fox’s freshman Raising Hope (3.4/9, 8.8 million) got a big boost following Idol, up 42% from last week for a series high and a first No.1 demo finish against original competition in the 9:30 PM slot. Fox won the night with an average of 6.5/18 in 18-49 and 18.1 million viewers.
CW’s dramas One Tree Hill (1.0/3 in 18-34) and Hellcats (0.7/2 in 18-34) both held steady, even in the young demo from last week.

All he does is bring the goods. Winner!
Correction: People are voyeurs. That’s why Reality TV has become the ‘off’ sensation it is. Like a car accident, people have to slow down to look, human nature. This guy isn’t a car crash, he’s a human avalanche and earthquake all in one and people are looking on, astonished from the side lines as he takes the plunge, head first, real nose dive with pike.
Why would producers with brains and clout pander to such a narcissistic ignoramus. A person who obviously has the potential to go off the rails at any time when it suits with his megalomaniacal tirades. He hasn’t a leg to stand on, otherwise he wouldn’t be desperately dragging this out. ‘He who protesteth too much!’ He hasn’t an ounce of humility, so that should be returned in kind.
CBS has enough green backs in the bank to be stalwart enough to toss this piece of Plankton back into the ocean, otherwise, they leave the flood gates open for other talentless, swollen heads to blow up. This guy has surely had his day!
Any one else remember Sheen’s cameo in Ferris B? Winner.

That’s what he may be lucky enough to come down to. A walk on……and a jolly walk off!
“CW’s dramas One Tree Hill (1.0/3 in 18-34) and Hellcats (0.7/2 in 18-34) both held steady, even in the young demo from last week.”
According to Tvbythenumbers:”The CW’s One Tree Hill fell 11% in adults 18-49 to a 0.8 rating, and Hellcats stayed even, and low, with just a 0.6 adults 18-49 rating.”
As labeled, the story refers to CW’s target 18-34 demo, not 18-49/
V needs to go! It’s awful – just awful….
No Ordinary Family is getting the Cape numbers, and we all know what that means.
Gah, fire Dawn already! Tuesday isn’t “as” bad as Monday but this is still horrid for the CW.
You gotta check out Kimmel’s take on the “drug called Charlie Sheen” :

My mistake, but I thought The CW’s target demo was the women 18-34 demo? Anyway OTH fell a ton in the women 18-34 demo thanks to Idol.

His was the only episode of Piers Morgan I had ANY interest in watching! Keep surfing on the mercury surfboard from mars Charlie!
Give Charlie a nightly one hour talk show on CNN he’ll be the king of cable ratings let him spout off whatever nonsense he wants to jabber about let him curse all he wants air it live without any audio delay have him take phone calls and answer questions from twitter and facebook it’ll be a big hit call it Charlie Sheen: Dead or Alive!
Network. Peter Finch. Do you all not see it?
Love it!
Right on, Right on!!
I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!
I want my nightly Charlie Sheen fix and if I don’t get it!
Charlie will be the new mad prophet of the airwaves. CNN will become Charlie’s New Network. Winning!
Actually, I didn’t mean it as a positive thing, but as a very, very sad one. We are watching a man self-destruct. When will it stop being funny to all of you?
Anita you are much too pure and ethical you need to think more like Faye Dunaway did in Network. You are the conscience of this website which makes you the William Holden character. Faye Dunaway was the personification of network television and the networks are full of Dunaways so they are going to exploit Charlie as much as they possibly can. He really might wind up with his own cable talk show. If he self-destructs on-air so much the better. I happen to think a talk show would be a good outlet for his anger and insanity. He’ll never go as crazy as Peter Finch did Charlie knows he’s putting on an act he’s doing what he’s doing because he loves the attention he’s addicted to the spotlight. Don’t worry about him so much. He’s a bad guy he treats women like crap and if he dies nobody will shed any tears for him. Paddy Chayefsky is no doubt enjoying all of this he predicted Reality TV 35 years ago and no matter what happens to Charlie you still have Network to watch any time you want to see it. The film was brilliant and it’s entirely possible Charlie is hip to it this might be his greatest performance ever. He should win an Emmy for it.
No, I’ve seen this before in a friend I lost. The weight loss, inability to sleep, delusions of grandeur, etc. It’s not acting, it’s a slow death.
I think most of the comments were a “bravo” to you, for having hit the nail right on the head (when the rest of us missed it) and not anyone thinking this was funny. Most people on this board see that Charlie needs help. I also agree that he might be in a bad way, physically. He looks positively awful and I think his family should be quite concerned. But who knows what help they’ve tried to get him in the past? What can they do?
When he’s dead.
Kinda thought Piers Morgan was being a little bitch, just agreeing with Charlie and being a ‘Yes Man’ to him so that he would stay in his seat and feel comfortable spouting his nonsense.
PEOPLW LOVE TRAIN WREAKS, SO SAD…..
Mel Gibson, Lindsay Lohan, Bill Clinton, O.J. Simpson dominated the media/public attention during their ‘misdeeds’.
Charlie is Hollywood’s latest poster child for being dysfunctional.
And, Charlie will continue to command attention until this is finally resolved and/or another story which fascinates the public takes its place.
The ratings and other issues are just NOISE during this process…and, with all NOISE…it, too, will decline.
The reality TV comparison doesn’t fit. This is the same, old story – just as you always slow down to see a car crash or train wreck you can’t turn away from watching a psych meltdown. When a singe car is being chased down the freeway by 30 police cruisers, it’s great TV.
Now that Sheen has promised (we hope) to stop giving interviews, he will slowly sink into the abyss.
There is a typo in your headline. It should read: Charlie Sheen is a shit.
That is insulting to shit.
Sheen and Olberman. Mad dogs on the loose!
“Sheen and Olberman. Mad dogs on the loose!”
That comparison is as nonsensical as it is odious.
What Charlie – among others – doesn’t realize is that when a performer is paid an exorbitant amount of money, that money is only on loan and is targeted by “the club” to be returned to the entertainment welfare state as quickly as possible. With the spigot turned off, Mr. Sheen will soon hear the gushing sound of his bank accounts force-flooding his cash back into the pockets of his Attorneys, Agents, P.R.Reps, Stylists, Trainers, Mortgages, Lawsuits, Alimony, Investment Obligations, Accountants, Handlers, Gardeners, Private Jet Accounts, Credit Card Accounts and Assorted Sycophants and Dealers and Hangers-on…That’s the game, Charlie,
that’s the game…
wow. excellently expressed.
Charlie Sheen has over 1 million followers of his tweets. He just signed up yesterday or the day before.
Who are you people to judge?? None of you have Adonis DNA, do you? DO YOU?!
“Bodies, I am sad to say, do not rule the world…….
…..there is a reason for that!”
You mean you are ‘PLEASED’ to say…..
‘Bodies I am ‘pleased’ to say, do not rule the world….
…..there is a reason for that.’
Sorry, I was sad for sombero….he was obviously confused.
^^^funny comment, but, oops, perhaps to the wrong person?
Charlie, deep down below, does not believe he has Adonis DNA, at all.
Is it his lack of internal belief in himself, his ability to not shake off (at least in private) what people think of him, that perhaps drives his ill-advised rants? Can you say pathetic overcompensation?
A lot of people in need can see themselves in Charlie Sheen. One could say he is a trans-formative figure, or the deserved and continued object of scorn. Both could be true and valid.
Maybe I’m a good person and I’m just trying to be understood.
I guess you are right, Mr Crazy Sheen.
It could be extremely confusing to most if a ‘good person’ serenades as an over opinionated, over inflated, egomaniac, hell bent on making waves ‘publicly’ (definitely no finesse in that) when all you need to do is sit down and discuss RATIONALLY your frustrations like a WELL ADJUSTED human being to the people who count. Going out into the public domain will of course get Joe Basic on your side, it always will. But at the end of your tenure, you want the respect from your fellow peers, surely. You’re not doing such a marvellous job of that
Only a harridan with an axe to grind along with her long departed sex drive allows her exhibitionistic nature to take flight with such voracity and I am not so sure a guy who prides himself a terror with a bench press could take being called a ‘Woman?’
Ms. Hunt-
Curious, m’lady…provide to a fellow woman, and more specifically to Mr. Sheen, a framework for reconciliation. You seem to be well versed in the world of entertainment, and it’s more political nuances.
Obviously Mr. Sheen was not/is not (a political animal), and his public rage illustrates his…how should I put this…embarrassment at his actions? How many nutjobs felt the need to attack (to protect their fragile, boy-egos, of course) before they realized the world is not full of ruthless and vindictive ghosts?
I for one believe Sheen could come out of this a stronger person, a more animus and anima soul. Perhaps you do not.
To Ave.Id
I appreciate your sentiments and the fact that you are looking ‘beyond’ Mr. Sheen’s actions and therefore, ‘deeper’ into this person’s head/heart, showing incredible compassion, which is undoubtedly a remarkable quality.
We live in a toss away society. So humans along with the garbage are ‘fair game’ if they don’t play by certain standards. I come from the old English/Antipodean society where, ‘you just get on with it.’ No histrionics, you do your bit without moaning and throw your weight behind everything you do with a vengeance. As Crocodile Dundee said in his first instalment when hearing that everyone had a shrink, ‘don’t you have mates?’
For the last twenty odd years society has tried to make ‘excuses’ for certain behaviours. Maybe they’re valid, maybe they’re just making everyone ‘soft.’ Hollywood particularly can magically drag anything out of a hat to explain away a person’s maladjustment and along the way it even becomes good copy and the studios take advantage of the redemption. Everyone wins. That’s life. But Hollywood is the exception to the rule. It is all about make believe anyway and people who wish to be entertained want to swallow up the fairytale because their own lives are pretty uninspiring.
I don’t doubt that there is still a bit of life in Mr Sheen yet. There is enough fodder out there to warrant his existence. These days good friends are hard to come by, because everyone appears to have an agenda and in Hollywood, no where more so. But underneath his pretty rough exterior Chuck may very well be a soft touch and have a heart of gold and that very aspect of his personality is what gets up his trouser leg. The realisation he’s being taken for a ride by a more calculating opponent.
Redemption: Yes, there are plenty of avenues open to him in ‘make believe town.’ Saturday Night Live of course has a well worn road to their ‘camera, action’ – and, people’s memories are short. Time heals most things.
Ms. Hunt-
Your posts can cut like a knife, but also make a lot of sense. Let’s hope Charlie can be redeemed. MAYBE it will be possible.
Charlie Sheen doesn’t have to deal with fools and trolls.
Duh – Winning!
That really catpuers the spirit of it. Thanks for posting.
