ABC’s midseason drama Body of Proof, starring Dana Delany, got off to a promising start last night with a 3.0/8 fast-national rating in adults 18-49 and 13.9 million viewers. It dominated the 10 PM hour against original competition, pushing CBS’ The Good Wife (1.9/5, 10 million) to a season low in the demo. NBC’s Parenthood (1.9/5, 4.8 million) was flat. Body of Proof qualifies as TV’s second-most-watched series premiere this season behind CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 and ABC’s second-highest-rated premiere in 18-49 behind No Ordinary Family. At ABC, which has been struggling to launch a successful drama series in the past few years, Body of Proof was most watched midseason drama debut in four years and the top rated among 18-49 in two years. Body of Proof benefited from a strong lead-in, Dancing with the Stars‘ first result show this cycle (4.2/11, 18.8 million), which was down 5% from the corresponding show in the fall but up sharply (40% in 18-49, 31% in viewers) from the results premiere last year to rank as the top program of the night. Body of Proof’s numbers may have been inflated a bit from a Dancing overrun, so its performance will be more properly judged when final ratings are released later today. ABC, which opened with a Dancing recap (2.7/8, 12.7 million), won the night in 18-49 (3.3/9, 15.1 million), edging traditional Tuesday ratings victor CBS (3.1/8, 14.5 million with an all-original lineup).
CBS’ NCIS (3.8/11, 18.3 million) was flat. NCIS:LA (3.5/9, 15.2 million) was up 9% in the demo. Facing Dancing with the Stars for the first time this cycle, NBC’s The Biggest Loser (2.6/7) was down 13% from last week. Fox’s only original, Traffic Light (1.1/3) was up 10%.

Impressive numbers for NCIS. Effortless writing and great chemistry among the cast. NCIS:LA not so much.
Watched and liked the show. Thought Dana was looking very fine. Liked her guy partner. Some weak spots, though, don’t quite get Jeri-Lynn Ryan being her superior. Hope the show sticks to characters and does not turn into a CSI show where all they seem to do is show computer screens, high tech gear, glossy sets and test tubes etc. Will watch again and hope for more background on Dana’s character.
Cannnot believe she’s 55. She looks exactly the same as when she was on China Beach.
Well I guess thats it then for Detroit 187, too bad, such a great show, but since ratings are good for this clunker its RIP for My show. Sigh!
I think it’s still on the bubble but we should be hearing after they process the numbers from Body of Life. I agree, too bad, because it was a decent show. Michael Imperioli can’t seem to get a break on the networks. I loved “Life on Mars” but it was probably too quirky for mainstream – might have made it on cable. Body of Proof was okay although it seemed a little slow.
Best writing on regular TV, still goes to The Good wife
see above
Man, Parenthood needs a better timeslot. It should probably come on an hour earlier as well.
I agree! It’s so good, but getting lost in this time slot. Hope it makes it to another season.
I watched the show and was not impressed with the writing.Hope they clean house because Dana is great
I didn’t see the show but the commercials were terrible. If those were the best one-liners they could come up with, wow.
Yeah, from what I hear, Body only gets worse… ouch.
Have seen 2 & 3 eps of Body of Proof and pretty sure this show will go down fast. Not only it’s rip-offing Bones halfa time but the stories are terrible. Twist in second ep is so hilariously bad I just couldn’t believe it. Shame that Dana is wasting her time on this drivel.
Clunky title, clunky writing, stale concept. Dana’s a sweetheart, but it’s too bad she has to attach to this shit to work.
Likes: Jeri Ryan. She’s still hot.
Dislikes: Jeri Ryan as Dana’s boss. Doesn’t work. Dana’s face. Sure, she looks okay, but her face didn’t move the whole hour. Just her lower lip. The Simon Baker impersonator. They could have tried to actually make him a character instead of just someone who limply follows his boss around the whole time. The writing. Couldn’t have been more cliched. This is House light. Enjoy it while you can.
wasn’t this show on NBC a few years ago and called “Crossing Jordan”?
This show is pitched every year but usually dies on the pilot vine. Somehow this heap managed to get through. It won’t be back next season.
Awesome show! Dana and Jeri are amazing and beautiful! Those guys in the lab are so funny! I love the Miller High Life guy. I’ve been saying, “He needs his own show.”
Loved her in China Beach , loved this new show.
another boring medical examiner show, or the best drama on broadcast TV .
what’s wrong with you people.
What the hell is “Body of proof” anyway?
“Body”? Does this mean another goddamn medical show?
What’s Dana playing? A doc? Detective? Lawyer?
Cause only doc sickness shows & crime dramas rule network prime time TV. The nets give people what they want.
But who the fuck ARE these people out there that tune into a fucking crime drama like NCIS (18M)!?
Why would ANYONE watch fucking “House” about sick people?
Can someone-ANYONE-please tell me why ANYONE wants to watch a TV show about sickness, disease, or murder mysteries?
“Body of Proof” gives Dana another TV paycheck, cause even at her age, she can still play 40.
But whatever the hell “Body of Proof” has Dana doing-hospital, courtroom, clinic, detective agency-Dana’s age is all the proof I need to forget her body.
The producers of this should be counting their lucky stars they’re not up against any real competition…
A little too formulaic for my taste, but it’s exactly what I expected when I tuned in. If Body is the replacement for Detroit 187, then that is a good thing because Detroit was a tepid and self indulgent soap. There is edgier writing on Greys and Private Practice.
I am shocked by this. Dana Delany pretty much proved she couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. The black fellow could’ve been a white man in a minstrel show — his character was borderline offensive, and Delany’s partner has the looks and charm of a Hobbit version Simon Baker. Thank God for Sonja Sohn and John Carroll Lynch. My God. This show must do a 180 or go to the elephant graveyard.
My only complain with BODY OF PROOF was that it was a overly information heavy. Then again, that’s not unusual in a pilot that has to set up the characters, the situation and give history while also being about the story of the episode. Dana was awesome and I’ll definitely be watching this again. Compare this to the awful GREY’S ANATOMY and it’s a pleasant chance to see a well-written (not to mention well-acted) series about a doctor.
Dana Delaney looks great!
The crime lab people, the profilers, etc. now it is the coroner who is solving murders and confronting the bad guys and gals.
This show inspired me to come up with another drinking game. I call it “Cliche!”™. Rather than rely on one or two phrases to salute, in this game, players can drink anytime a cliche is acknowledged, whether it be a line or a scene. There are no restrictions as to what can be construed as being a cliché, as the integrity of the players is assumed. But this show ought to get people loaded and keep them loaded.
@ Jeff Watch the BBC original LIfe On Mars. The American version had a couple good cast members, but the original is far superior…especially regarding the finale.
Just my opinion.
Watched the first episode of Body of Proof because Dana Delany was in it and I will watch anything she’s in. Was nicely surprised when Jeri Ryan put her head around the corner as the boss as I will also watch anything she is in. Immensely enjoyed the first two episodes and all the plots, but didn’t like the 3rd episode with Dana trying to be “friendly.” Liked her cynical sarcasm better although I do like her backstory with her daughter. I happen to like murder mystery plots and am very glad that we don’t have to see a full autopsy like the other medical examiner programs which only seem to want to shock albeit they do seem more realistic. I especially like Dr. Hunt’s approach to her victim’s though. One thing that has always bothered me about all of the cop shows; do they really have that much time to spend on only one case? Shouldn’t they be multi-tasking? I prefer programs that concentrate on the cases with minimal backstory & now I am going to say that I would however like to know more about Jeri Ryan’s character & see more of her; wish she had been the sidekick or detective so she would have more face time with us, and I love Jeri’s wardrobe more than Dana’s although Dana’s stepped up in the 3rd episode. I hope this series lasts.
