Following a Middle repeat at 8:30 PM, Modern Family (4.3/12) was actually up 2% from its most recent original on March 2. With a new Modern Family as a lead-in vs. a rerun last week, Mr. Sunshine (2.2/6) was up 22% from last week. But vs. the last time Mr. Sunshine followed a new Modern Family original, the Matthew Perry-starring midseason comedy was down 13%. Even the commercials for “The Middle” set my teeth on edge, an embarrassment.
Here’s what’s wrong with “The Middle”. Janitor and Debra Barone get married and adopt the kid from “Malcom In the Middle”. I know the studio executives were counting on the past success of these familiar faces to give this show a chance but these guys are a little too fresh in our minds. There are only like 10s of thousands of other actors out there that they could’ve chosen from and yet they went with the two who just finished working on long-running shows. If I could turn back the clock, I would’ve went ahead and gotten that MBA if I knew it would lead me to making creative decisions for TV and movies. Damn! And here I thought they were just number crunchers (finance) and salesman (marketing). Oh well, woe is me.
Atticus Shaffer is on “The Middle” not Erik Per Sullivan. Different kid.
It may set your teeth on edge to watch the commercials but if you ever tuned in you’d see its a well executed and funny show about imperfect people who are struggling to pay their bills- like many families in America right now- as opposed to some of the lifestyle porn of “Modern Family” and other half-hours.
It took me a season to figure that out and put it on my DVR and I only hope that more people start tuning in. TV needs more characters like Sue, Brick, Frankie, Mike and Axl.
And, no, I don’t know anyone on the show. I’m just a fan.
I actually think The Middle has been way better than Modern Family this season. Actually I think The Middle, Cougar Town, Community, Parks & Recreation and 30 Rock have all been much better than MF. For a show that started out so great, it’s really become one painfully cliched sitcom with terrible storylines and zero character development.
can anybody explain why the CW is letting itself implode at 9pm? Why keep airing that shedding show? Now the top model ticked up, it’s obvious that shedding is a stinker and they should pull it. But why didn’t they pull it weeks ago? I don’t think a show that gets under a million viewers is going to be worth airing.
I agree The Middle HAS been the stronger show this year, then Modern Family which in my opinion is resting on last year`s reputation. The last 2 episodes of Modern Family have been the strongest but overall The Middle has been stronger all year, I don`t know about you but The Heck`s are more real then anyone on Modern Family.Frankie and Mike are raising REAL kids, i and i think why the show hits home with people know or knew kids like Sue or Axl or Brick and i know my Mom was like Frankie trying to do stuff for my brother and me.The Middle is overall a better show hands down and my hope is the Emmy people see this.
Survivor dropped because Russell is gone. They better hope Boston Rob sticks around beacuse the rest of the cast are super dull.
Survivor has gone way downhill quickly, to the point where they rely on recruits mostly from California, a bunch of dumb, lazy blondes and past losers coming back like Rob and Russell. Give me a break, they need to go back to the way it was in the first 5-6 seasons.
A peerless, fantastic host. Engaging, incredible challenges. Always interesting and exotic locations. Survivor has everything going for it, save for one crucial thing, and I think this is reflected in both the ratings and my waning interest in the show I otherwise really do love, 20 ‘seasons’ on:
CASTING.
Not every season has to have a Russell, a Coach or a Boston Rob, just like every player on a baseball roster need not be a home run king.
But you do need doubles and triples to drive in runs…where are the Parvati’s, the cute lovable southern kid with the beard (sorry, no time for research here)? The “non headliner” types in the last handful of seasons have been some of the most milquetoast, anonymous and ineffective players the game has seen.
The sad ‘joke’ in my household every week is how absolutely crucial the ‘Last Time on Survivor!..’ has been these last few seasons…because these players make zero impression, I cannot for the life of me remember who the hell was voted out the previous episode.
Survivor has always been classy compared to other reality/competition series and have not had to rely on gimmicks and overt stunt casting; but even before that became the blue print of Bunim Murray shows like Real World and Road Rules, those folks displayed a gift for putting the right people together for an entertaining show.
A shot in the arm or some new blood in the Casting department, to be on par with the outstanding Games team and unflappable Host, is truly in order.
When is Cougar Town coming back, that show has gotten better and better throughout the season and what does ABC do, take it off the air to put on Mr. Sunshine, well I think it’s time to put it back on at it’s regular spot and put Mr. Sunshine somewhere else!!!!!
Yeah, The Middle rocks, didn’t like the show at first, but then it started to grow on me. Saw an interview with the creators. The actors that play the kids were not the typical “Disney” clones that kept coming into audition, THAT is why they got the parts. They were all themselves and not some “Showkid”. Very smart on the casting. And yes, Brick does look like the youngest from “Malcolm”, but you have to forget about that or it can ruin it for you if you dewl on it. Every actor is strong on that show, the characters are so alive and very well written. I love Modern Family, but “The Middle” is so much like most people’s lives that its nice to be able to laugh at ourselves and go “yep, that just happened to us like a month ago”
I love the show better with you which airs after the middle. Nice to know that even a repeat of the middle still drops.
In the Middle is a beautifully written and realized show… Brick whispering: “Show…”
It’s worth watching for the characters of Sue and Brick alone.
Still rivers run deep.
Just a fan….
